25.01.2022 Many of us love a good acronym. Well, ‘love’ might be too strong a word, but acronyms can simplify the complicated and provide an easy structure to remember summaries of key points. With that in mind, in structuring the writing of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy', I wanted to build a system for you to easily remember the key steps in your wealth building and financial freedom journey. The ‘7 Steps’ in the book are structured around the acronym F.R.E.E.D.O.M. ... Step 1 (F) is: 'Figure out What you want to achieve and Why'. Clarity is critical on your wealth building journey. Not only clarity on your goals, but also your values & what's important to you. Roy Disney (Walt's brother) said, "When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier". Schedule some time in your diary in the next week to clarify your tangible goals that require both money & planning to achieve. Also clarify the reasons it's important for you to achieve your goals. _______________________________________ To buy a personally signed copy of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' go to https://www.matthewmorrison.com.au I look forward to playing a part in helping you create the financial wealth and life you deserve. 24.01.2022 At the start of a new year, and start of a new decade, there is no better time for everyone to plan for their longer term freedom than right now. From working with several hundred clients as a financial adviser over the last 15 years, I’ve discovered that no matter a person’s current financial position, there is a system virtually everyone can follow to build towards Financial Freedom or at least, dramatically improve their financial blueprint. This is the whole reason wh...y I wanted to write my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy'. This book was written for couples, individuals and business owners who are striving to create a better financial future for themselves and their families. 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' unpacks in detail a step-by-step strategy we've used to help hundreds of clients take control of their financial situation and create a 'game plan' to build towards future Financial Freedom, while having the flexibility to enjoy their lifestyle along the journey. It's about Lifestyle now... and Freedom later. 21.01.2022 "Nothing is set and forget forever, and it's not always smooth sailing". Whilst developing and implementing a financial strategy is a crucial part of your wealth creation journey, nothing is ‘set and forget’. Things change, including your goals, plans and situation. Just like going to the gym for a few weeks won’t cause you to hit peak fitness, developing and implementing a financial strategy won’t necessarily keep you financially fit forever either. You need to work at it ...- consistently over time. The final step in the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' is Step 7 (M): "Manage your strategy & Monitor your progress". Block out a couple of hours every six months to do a full review of your overall financial situation. As part of this, re-cover the key actions in Step 1 (F) and Step 2 (R) of the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework. Importantly, within your strategy review, prepare for bad times and set backs. We are all going to have financial setbacks. It’s not a case of ‘if’, but ‘when’, and we need to be prepared. Regardless of what the setback is, following the advice throughout 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' will help you develop financial Resilience and Persistence. Develop resilience. Develop the ability to persist. And promise yourself that you will never give up on your quest towards Financial and Lifestyle Freedom no matter what setbacks you face on your journey. _______________________________________ To buy a personally signed copy of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' go to https://www.matthewmorrison.com.au I look forward to playing a part in helping you create your future. 19.01.2022 Cash flow is like 'Oxygen'...when we have it, we don't think about it. But when we don't have it, we think about it all the time - and without it virtually nothing else is possible. Following on from Step 2 in the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy', Step 3 (E) is: 'Earning Capacity, grow it & protect it'. From working closely with several hundred clients as a financial adviser over the last 16 years, I’ve seen new client after new client come t...Continue reading

17.01.2022 After longer than expected in production, I'm excited to finally be sharing the next #GotMoney podcast recorded for Joy FM. In this episode Elizabeth and I explore Pillar #1 of what I call 'The 3 Pillars of Financial Freedom' - the Planning Pillar. There are 3 Steps to the Planning Pillar: Step 1 - Clarify Your Vision... Step 2 - Evaluate Your Position Step 3 - Develop Your Strategy Listen via the link below to hear us unpack these 3 key steps and discover how you can apply these steps to building wealth for the future. https://bit.ly/2Ql1t3Q
16.01.2022 Following on from Step 1 in the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy', Step 2 (R) is: 'Review where you are now'. Whilst clarifying your values and defining your goals (in Step 1) is a crucial first step, Step 2 is about balancing optimism with realism, and honestly evaluating your current financial position. I say to many clients, "Treat your personal finances like a business. Know your Profit & Loss and your Balance Sheet. Be all over your numb...ers. Strive to grow your profits every year and then invest those profits back into your personal wealth creation 'business' to help fuel your journey towards financial freedomas well as have fun along the way." Whilst Step 2 (R) is about reviewing your current financial reality, it’s also about reviewing what you have done previously to bring you to where you are today. This can be confrontational, especially if you aren’t happy with the financial position you are currently in. Schedule some time in your diary in the next week to evaluate your current financial position. Devote some time to this and be honest with yourself. Do not skip this step or underestimate its importance. Achieving Financial Freedom is really a matter of working out how to get from Point A to Point B. 'Evaluating Your Position' is Point A. 'Clarifying Your Vision' is Point B. Then it’s about strategising and creating a financial road map to get from Point A to Point B while enjoying the journey and protecting yourself along the way. _______________________________________ To buy a personally signed copy of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' go to https://www.matthewmorrison.com.au I look forward to playing a part in helping you create the financial wealth and life you deserve. 12.01.2022 It's been said that "wisdom is wasted, unless you take action". Building wealth & creating freedom won't happen through positive thinking. We need to work at it...consistently over time. That's why the next step in the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' is the most critical. And that is - Step 5 (D): 'Develop & Implement your game plan'. Just imagine if an elite sporting team ran out on the field on Grand Final day without a 'game plan'. No st...rategy. No structure. They would be smashed. Unfortunately, most people live their lives this way. Your financial 'game plan' should align your financial decisions and actions with your most important goals that require both money & planning to achieve (developed in Step 1). 'Step 5' should bring all the pieces of the financial jigsaw puzzle together and provide a clear 'road map' on how to best use cash flow to build assets - both outside as well as inside of superannuation - to help you achieve your financial & lifestyle goals...while having flexibility to still achieve your goals as the superannuation accessibility rules inevitably change over time. If you don’t yet have a game plan to create financial freedom for yourself, resolve to get moving and begin creating the future lifestyle that you deserve. _______________________________________ To buy a personally signed copy of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' go to https://www.matthewmorrison.com.au I look forward to playing a part in helping you create your future. 08.01.2022 Many advisers and accountants have varying opinions as to what is good debt and bad debt. For instance, many say good debt is tax-deductible debt and bad debt is non tax-deductible debt. I don’t necessarily agree with this. Tax deductibility is irrelevant in determining whether the debt is 'good' or 'bad'. ... My personal definition of 'good' debt and 'bad' debt is: "Good debt helps you build long-term wealth, provided it’s affordable, while bad debt erodes your ability to build wealth." Good debt is essentially debt that is used to buy good quality assets that are likely to grow strongly over time, whether this be your home, a quality investment property in a good location, or even a business. The 2nd last step in the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' is Step 6 (O): "Other people's money (the banks) - use, manage & pay down debt masterfully". If we want to buy homes and invest in property, we need to be willing and able to use ‘Other people’s money’ in most cases the banks’ money and borrow to do so. Yes, borrowing to buy investments, particularly property, can be a powerful way to build long-term wealth. However, it can also be a dangerous strategy if not respected and not managed prudently and skilfully. It needs to be affordable and the borrowings need to be used to buy quality assets. In order to have Step 6 work well for you, is it important to not only respect the power of leverage, but also to understand the real difference between ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ debt. _______________________________________ To buy a personally signed copy of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' go to https://www.matthewmorrison.com.au I look forward to playing a part in helping you create your future. 03.01.2022 It was an absolute pleasure, and a heap of fun, to speak with Caroline Stephen on the latest Talkingtrading.com.au podcast which was released today. Together we unpacked some of the key ideas in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy'. We covered the 5 main financial mistakes I regularly see that hold many people back. And importantly - for anyone not currently making the progress they'd like to be - we covered the 3 things that most people can do immediately to take charge of... their financial future and launch towards longer term freedom & peace of mind. Check out the podcast via the link below. Also in this episode you can hear the wisdom of Louise Bedford & Chris Tate. Louise covered how people can set themselves up for success when asking for a pay rise. Chris reminded us of the importance of liquidity in any markets. Hope you enjoy the show. 01.01.2022 Sometimes we just need to have fun, for no other reason than just to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Following on from Step 3 in the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. framework in my book 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy', Step 4 (E...#2) is: 'Enjoy Today'. In developing a wealth creation strategy, the journey towards financial freedom is not just about financial decisions. It’s also about lifestyle decisions, amongst other things. ... Life is short. We don’t know what is around the corner. To misquote Mahatma Gandhi, Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Build wealth as if you were to live forever. With that in mind, our financial strategies should not just be about being frugal, investing for the future and creating financial freedom. Neither is it all about just living for now. It’s about enjoying Lifestyle now and achieving Freedom later. You can have ‘both’. It’s not easy, but you can do it with the right game plan. Also I know that most people's enthusiasm towards building future financial freedom will drop off pretty quickly if you are not celebrating and rewarding yourself along the journey. This is why Step 4 is so crucial to the success of your long term financial freedom journey. How can you treat yourself and have some fun? What holidays or breaks would you like to have over the next 12 months? How do you plan to celebrate and reward yourself along your wealth building journey? Decide what activities you can do on a regular basis for no other reason than just to have fun and enjoy yourself....then build the cost of this into your financial 'game plan'. Plan and book your next holiday or break, even if it’s just a long weekend away. Schedule it in and plan on rewarding yourself regularly. If holidays aren’t your thing, or if your budget doesn’t currently allow for an extended break, what else can you do to reward yourself along the journey? What makes you feel good and what do you have fun doing? Remember, sometimes we just need to have fun, for no other reason than just to have fun and enjoy ourselves. _______________________________________ To buy a personally signed copy of 'Freedom, Lifestyle & Legacy' go to https://www.matthewmorrison.com.au I look forward to playing a part in helping you create the financial wealth and life you deserve.
