The $6.9m project includes the refurbishment of the existing gymnasium, as well as 2 brand new learning spaces; a Health & Wellbeing building and a Year 7 & Music building, and additional landscaping.

We received an LEA Commendation in CATEGORY 6 - SMALL PROJECTS VALUED UNDER AU $2 MILLION for the Walford Anglican School for Girls, Ellen Benham Science Centre This year’s annual Learning Environments Australasia award included a record 122 entries across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.... Well done team!

This year we invited Ben Murray (creative communication agency Brighter) and Acoustic Engineer Chris Turnbull (Sonus) to chat about some of the challenges faced by those who are deaf or have hearing impairments. 05.10.2021 D E S I G N I N G W I T H I N A H E R I T A G E P R E C I N C T Recycling is a part of our everyday lives now but long before the concept existed we were already recycling buildings; and we’ve probably been doing it for all of human history. These days we call it repurposing, adaptive reuse, revitalisation, upcycling and so on. As a community we share a framework that identifies and protects the historically valuable parts of our built environment. The ben...efits of this are clear; in doing this we preserve our shared heritage. In the long term the only thing that protects buildings from deterioration or demolition is active use. For this reason, adapting buildings and modifying them to make them useful is a crucial part of conservation. There is no reason to be bashful about the economic challenges faced by heritage buildings. If we are to have constructive conversations that lead to sound policies we must accept that there are inherent additional costs that come with recycling existing buildings. Matthews Architects recent work with St Peter’s College to revitalise the heritage precinct of The Big Quad involved close collaboration between the School, the design team and Heritage SA. The design outcome is a precinct that will breathe new life into the academic heart of the campus while celebrating its history. The design reveals previously hidden meanings and important legacies. With care and affection these projects continue an ongoing story; the living history that connects past, present and future. See more
