15.01.2022 Am covering Scott Lycett's tribunal hearing for his dangerous tackle on Ned McHenry. Here's the key points so far: #AFL QC Jeff Gleeson saying: "potential was for even worse injury". Potential was there for a facial injury given the force with which head was slammed into the ground.... Says 4 matches is the appropriate sanction. #AFL says "whipping action" led to McHenry's head being "slammed" into ground. Compares incident to Neal Bullen's tackle on Hamill last year (4-game ban). Port refutes that. Says Lycett's on lower end of severe impact & lower level than Neal-Bullen tackle. Should be 3 matches. Port lawyer discussing centrifugal force quite a bit. Compares Olympic hammer throw to shot put in relating Lycett's incident to the Neal-Bullen one. Port says "size disparity is irrelevant" to the sanction. "Shouldn't punish him for being Goliath". Calls on jury of key-position players (David Neitz, Wayne Henwood, Stewart Loewe) to take that into account. Port lawyer also referred to his case in the defence as a "physics lecture" after the references to centrifugal force and also gravity. Jury now retiring to consider its verdict.
