25.01.2022 Today is world mental health day and the goal is increased investment in mental health. I want to be part of a council that delivers the highest quality services - whether that's mental health, maternal and child health or family day care. I am concerned about the recent trend towards privatisation. I've worked for the last decade to improve the quality of social services and I want to be part of a council that supports frontline staff to do what they do best - engage with and support the families, the elderly, young people and those in need.

24.01.2022 You’ve got until this Friday to vote! If you’re still making up your mind, feel free to get in touch with any questions on 0407 748 235. Make sure your vote counts. I hope I can earn your support

18.01.2022 I'm so honoured to have the endorsement of Luba Grigorovitch. As a former Wetlands councillor and Hobsons Bay Deputy Mayor, Luba is a community leader who has spent her professional life fighting to achieve justice. Like Luba, I understand the importance of relentless representation and I hope I can earn your support

18.01.2022 I couldn’t be prouder to have the endorsement of local legend John Ballestrino OAM. JB has made an incredible contribution particularly to local sporting clubs but also to charities and supporting young people going through a tough trot. He’s humble in his service and is all about community. For me, he’s a great example of leadership and I hope to go some way to building on his incredible contribution. I hope I can earn your support

17.01.2022 Council has a crucial role to play in helping us bounce back from COVID including by supporting local businesses. A report by the Victorian Auditor General found a business support fund in another council returned $30 to their local economy for every $1 invested. Where possible, I want to see council lower fees and charges too like free permits for footpath trading until our economy recovers. Local businesses employ local people and council, working with other levels of government, has to step up to get us through this time.

17.01.2022 I’m proud to commit to the Labor for Housing pledge. I work to prevent mental health and family violence and have committed much of the last decade to improving social services - addressing homelessness has been a crucial part of this work. Having a safe and secure roof over your head is the foundation for everything else. Beyond the moral imperative, there’s also an economic one building more public and community housing presents a massive employment opportunity as we recover from COVID. Labor for Housing

16.01.2022 I'm proud to be an ASU member and proud to have signed their Local Council Candidate Pledge. I’m concerned by the trend towards outsourcing crucial council services. There’s so many hard working people who are continuing to deliver services during this time - maternal and child health nurses delivering services remotely or people delivering in-home care services. I’ve worked for the past decade to improve the quality of services and want to be part of a council that provides a better standard of living for workers so that they can get on and do what they do best Australian Services Union

12.01.2022 If I was elected as a councillor, I’d elevate the voices of people like Sarah and Joanne. The Laverton Pool was funded through community donations and the community has the right to determine what happens next. I encourage you to take a read and consider signing the petition to Save Laverton Pool. If elected, I’d fight to make sure there’s investment that meets the community’s needs. Before any decision is made, I’d seek in-depth community engagement about the right way forwa...rd. If elected I want to make sure I’m eligible to vote and, given previous court cases where council decisions have been overturned because a councillor was deemed to have made up their mind before the vote (see link in the comments), I need to demonstrate that I’m bringing an open mind to any decision and so won’t be signing the petition myself. This issue and the legitimate community concerns are too important to risk not having a say. Thank you to Sarah, Joanne and others for their work and advocacy on this petition. I’m linking to the petition below take a look including at their awesome video. You can sign the petition at this link but please don’t donate as, having spoken to Sarah, I'm told the money goes to change.org rather than efforts to save the pool. https://www.change.org/p/hobsons-bay-council-save-the-laver

10.01.2022 Now, more than ever, we need Councillors who are prepared to push hard to represent your interests. I want to see council deliver better value for your rates. This won’t just happen. We’ll need the right skills, hard work and the best ideas. I’ve had the opportunity to see other local governments where it’s easy for people to work with council to improve the appearance of their local area. Using an app or making a phone call, residents in Boston can report a problem with l...ocal amenities for instance a pothole, graffiti or an overflowing bin in a park. It’s a bit like snap, send solve although reports are logged on a public website with a transparent open / closed status - check it out at 311.boston.gov. Although one idea won’t solve everything, I want to see the best ideas brought to Hobsons Bay. Of course, these ideas will need to be tailored and adapted for our community. What would it take for you to feel like Council is listening to you?

07.01.2022 Your rates should work for you. As a first time candidate, I haven't had a chance to have a say on rates. If I'm elected, and the economy remains fragile as we consider rates next year, I'd want to see a rates freeze for people who have been financially impacted by COVID. A targeted approach means that people who can afford to contribute can continue to do so - this contribution supports council to deliver the quality service we'll need to get many in our community through this time. I want to bring my experience to council so that we get more from the $100m + budget.

05.01.2022 With voting closing in a few hours, and much uncertainty about what lies ahead in terms of results, I know one thing for sure - campaigning is a team effort. A massive thanks to so many friends and family who chipped in and gave up their time to support me - it means the world. Thanks as well to everyone who’s got in touch with kind messages of support, followed along on this page sharing content, or shared that they’ve voted for me. Particular thanks to a few people. To my m...uch better half Sar who, in addition to helping me, continues to blaze her own trail working towards a greener and cleaner future. To Mum - no doubt my biggest fan - thanks for everything you’ve done for me. I’m forever grateful. And finally to my Nan - who passed away over a decade ago now - a matriarch who instilled a fierce sense of social justice in her eight kids and generations to come. Regardless of what happens, I’ll continue to elevate other’s voices and fight for justice. I’m really pleased I gave this a crack - if elected, I’d give it my all. Either way, I look forward to the journey ahead

04.01.2022 Keep your eye out for ballot papers in your mail - some have already arrived and others will be out soon. They need to be returned in the mail by 6pm Oct 23. Remember that voting is now mandatory for all people 18+, including for people over 70. Voters elect two candidates for Wetlands Ward. I hope I can earn you support.

04.01.2022 I’m genuinely shocked at how low people’s expectations are of local government too many people have experienced a lack of responsiveness, have been let down by promises that haven’t been kept or have had changes like closing Laverton Pool thrust upon them. There's good, hard working people at council although I know things could be better. If elected, I’d fight for a Council that better represents residents and ratepayers. This is about who has power and how that power is used I’ve worked for over a decade to make sure people closest to the problem are closest to the solution.I'd bring genuine engagement with community, relentless representation and want to see systems that hold government to account.

01.01.2022 As the son of a single working Mum who’s advocated tirelessly for older Australians, I’ve been reflecting on the life and contribution of Susan Ryan AO. When Mum was in her late 20s, she was refused a bank loan because the bank manager wanted a man to be the guarantor - Mum had what she needed to get the loan and got approval elsewhere. At around the same time, 33-year old Susan Ryan, as a single Mum, entered Parliament as a Labor Senator. Susan was pivotal in passing the Se...x Discrimination Act - at a time when is was not unlawful to sack women who married or became pregnant. As education minister, she increased opportunities for all Australians and was a fierce advocate in her roles as age discrimination commissioner and disability discrimination commissioner. Ryan once wrote - There should be no unfair obstacles put in the way of women achieving independence. Women and men should be judged on their merits, not on how far they reinforce some socially useful or commercially contrived norm," Determined with a fierce intellect - Australia is better for all of us thanks to Susan's contribution .
