25.01.2022 MADE Board Meeting last week. Our wonderful chair Louisa Gordon front and centre with our hardworking board above Sonjia Shimeld, Lucinda Toynbee Wilson, Shirley Gibson Melissa King and Beverley Ann Funnell. Despite the challenges of Covid 19, MADE is still maintaining classes and looking forward to our upcoming season at Theatre North of Seven Deadly Sins this Nov 16-17. https://theatrenorth.com.au/made7deadlysins

23.01.2022 Those stories just keep coming! Herbert and Margaret Harding came along to one of the 'Belvedere Ballroom' shows and afterwards, enjoyed a little cheek-to-cheek doing a slow Foxtrot as you can see from the video. Herbert and Margaret let MADE General Manager, Shirley Gibson know that they too met at the Belvedere and have enjoyed dancing together ever since. Dancing must be one of the secrets to long life, as Herbert is 95 and Margaret is not that far behind him. Although the building itself is long gone, one thing is certain: the Belvedere Ballroom still holds a very special place in the hearts of many, many Hobartians. All of us at MADE were delighted and very proud to help bring back some of those wonderful memories and we thank all of those who shared some of their own Belvedere magic with us too. Thank you!!

18.01.2022 Following recent communications and information regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), it is with regret that we are cancelling all MADE classes for the remainder of Term 1 2020, effective from last Friday 20 March. For the safety of class members and tutors it is with a heavy heart that we have made this decision. We acknowledge that MADE classes represent so much more than dance tuition and we are therefore working with our tutors to deliver a different type of dance experienc...e so stayed tuned. We will be in touch again soon with a further update regarding future classes. Again, thank you for your continued understanding and stay safe!

17.01.2022 TERM 3 STARTS NEXT WEEK - ALL CLASSES BACK ON IN THE STUDIOS WOW what a different experience for Term 2 and thank you to those who persevered while we sorted out the Zoom online classes. Now to Term 3 - starts next week from 21 July and finishes on Thursday 24 September. After some discussions with studio operators and preparations to make sure we are Covid safe, we will commence ALL classes next week back in the studios:... http://www.madecompany.com.au/open-classes Please come and talk to us if you have difficulties with fee payments due to current employment/income Covid19 situation and we will discuss options to ensure you can continue to come along and enjoy dancing with MADE. There will be set protocols to follow to ensure everyone is Covid safe and attached is the MADE Covid19 Safety Plan (the Risk Assessment is available upon request). Please note the sections in the Plan of Arrival of Participants and During Class as these outline our expectations from class participants. At Ogilvie High School studio we will need to have a few people to assist with cleaning down after the class those people will be shown how to clean down surfaces, provided with a checklist and then certified competent to clean by Shirley Ann (the Ogilvie cleaner). This process of MADE cleaning will commence from 4 August so that we can minimise the increase to studio hire fee and therefore ensure MADE will not have to increase the class fees. If we could have 3-4 people to stay for an extra 10-15 minutes at end of each class, so please let me know if you are willing to share the load. At SOHO Hall, we will still need to clean everything down after class so again, if a couple of people could put their hand up to assist, would make the task a lot easier. Again, Lucinda at SOHO will provide us with a checklist of what needs to be done. Also, for those who do not feel comfortable returning the studio we are also seeing if we could Zoom into the class and you could still enjoy dancing with us. Please let me know if this is your preferred method of joining in and I will make arrangements for online class. The class fees will be as for in studio fees outlined above. Fees are payable within 2 weeks of commencement of the Term 3 ie payable by 4 August into MADEs bank account Please check your EFT to make sure that the account is as below: BSB 633 000 Account: 147 644 678 Ref: Name & T3 (eg S Gibson T3) We are so looking forward to seeing you all again in the studio even though we will be at a 1.5 metre distance and no hugs our life at the moment! Cheers, MADE

16.01.2022 Well Launceston - you certainly know how to sin. We have exactly 13 tickets left to sell! That's right, 13 tickets. So, if you have been entertaining any idea about getting along to see Graeme Murphy's "7 Deadly Sins" at the Princess Theatre (16 & 17 November) you need to book NOW! Then you'll be able to see lovely sinners like Greed (pictured here). Isn't she gorgeous? Book online at https://theatrenorth.com.au/made7deadlysins

15.01.2022 Lucinda Sharp, MADEs Classical Barre teacher on teaching on-line versus teaching in class. What were the differences/challenges of teaching online? My major problems involved the technology needed for online teaching - sorely tested my patience sometimes! I like being in the studio giving one-on-one feedback and revelling in the group atmosphere. I missed that side of teaching. ... Did you have to change your teaching style? Positives and negatives. As I couldnt really see what participants were doing, I found myself using my own physicality to generate feedback to class participants. That was interesting and brought up some new teaching points. How does it feel being back in the studio this term? Love the atmosphere amongst the group...not something that happens online. So much easier to teach classical ballet in situ. Remembering to social distance can be tricky when giving feedback. But Im getting used to it. http://www.madecompany.com.au

12.01.2022 Dancing in Uncertain Times By Beverley Funnell August 2020 Life is a dance, it is said... with steps joyous and sad juxtaposed in mirrored light and borrowed time. Life is a dance, they say perhaps a tango for some; a dizzying waltz for others for many just a slow shoe shuffle. Life is a dance, it is said motionless at times as a pause between scenes with comedy and tragedy waiting in the wings Ask those who feel forgotten and dance in pain without music, barefooted and alone. ask them about the dance of life. Life is a dance they say we may relinquish our performance, forsake our part but the dance goes on. Studios are empty now; homes have become performance spaces zooming and weaving with domestic abandon in our comfortable clothes and uncertain hair. Complete certainty doesnt exist Questions remain. Thats no bad thing. Spontaneity and joy in moving can set us free in uncertain times.

12.01.2022 MADE is delighted to announce its season of 'Belvedere Ballroom' in association with Ten Days on the Island's 2021 program. From the late 1940s and well into the 1950s and beyond, Tasmania enjoyed a golden age of dance like no other - everyone grabbed a friend, frocked up in their finest and embraced the brave new world of dance at dance halls like the "Belvedere or Sapphire." Glamour, gloves and petticoats were the new normal!! MADE invite you to come and reminisce with us!! Booking information is available on the Ten Days' site at: https://www.tendays.org.au/program/belvedere-ballroom/

11.01.2022 What a triumph! Opening night of HandMADE and MADE TO LAST was a screaming success. Congratulations to Mature Artists Dance Experience and choreographers/dance ...makers Liz Aggiss and Emma Porteus. But dont just take our word for it............. The work is bold, sassy and powerful. Its filled with a huge amount of fun and humour too. Caroline Sharpen, CEO, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The most incredible array of work, very unpredictable, very exciting and beautifully performed by a skilled and very generous group of women. Ive never seen any dance like this before. Joshua Lowe, Artistic Director, DRILL Dance. Its so moving to see the way in which these women embody their experiences, their lives and their relationships. The work demonstrates actions as simple as folding a sheet, but the action is so poetic and showcases their ideas of friendship and plans for the future. Lindy Hume, Artistic Director, Ten Days on the Island. See it at Moonah Arts Centre, not many tix left: https://www.trybooking.com/BFRMP

07.01.2022 Joel Rheinberger chats to Shirley Gibson, General Manager and Founding Member of MADE about her memories of the Belvedere Ballroom and MADE's upcoming show.
