15.01.2022 Lunasin can boost immune system The first line of defense against viral infection is the body’s innate immune system and its ability to mobilize natural killer ...cells (NK cells - a type of white blood cell) to eliminate virus-infected cells. NK cells provide a rapid response to virus-infected cells (acting at around 3 days after infection) by producing interferon gamma (IFN-gamma), a regulatory cytokine that is critical for innate immunity, as well as adaptive immunity when mobilized by viral vaccines to produce antibodies against the virus. Previous research on the effects of the lunasin peptide on cytokine immunotherapy against lymphoma (see attached publication) demonstrates the ability of lunasin to strengthen the body’s innate immunity by enhancing production of IFN-gamma in NK cells. The study also shows that the increase in IFN-gamma by lunasin is modulated by levels of histone H3 acetylation on the promoters of the IFN-gamma gene and other immune-regulatory genes. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00262-013-1513-8
