15.01.2022 Kiribati daggers made with shark teeth, drilled and bound to the edges of palmwood staves. This weapon was one of a range of pikes, swords and daggers in the Kiribati armoury. For protection, fighters wore strong but cumbersome armour of coconut fibre, including a helmet, a cuirass with a high backplate, and sleeves and leggings, which it would be hard even for these sharp sawlike weapons to cut through. #kiribati #maurivka #vkahere
15.01.2022 The uniqueness of Kiribati dance when compared with other forms of Pacific Islands dance is its emphasis on the outstretched arms of the dancer and the sudden birdlike movement of the head. The Frigate bird (Fregata minor) on the Kiribati flag refers to this bird-like style of Kiribati dancing. #kiribati #maurivka #vkahere
