24.01.2022 A fascinating report and insight into Australia and how we feel about arts and culture. The research was conducted in Feb just before we went into lockdown where we have now experienced what it is like to not be able to participate in person with our cultural offerings. Fortunately many creative practitioners have done what they do so well and innovate. And we have seen many artists engaging with audiences online. The research shows that Australians value arts and culture and... that is is fundamental to how we are as human beings, and that it links directly to our work and everyday lives. It's encouraging to hear this. Now we just need the Federal government to support the arts, invest in our artists and cultural capital. Our future needs creativity and creative leadership. Time to unleash our creative intelligence.https://www.humanities.org.au//middle-australia-says-arts/ #creativity #creativeleadership #arts #culture See more

19.01.2022 Dearest Mavericks - how are you at this time? While we need to physically distance ourselves we can still stay socially connected. Many of us have technology that enables us to do that. What are you doing to take care of yourself and your loved ones at this stage? A few things to keep in mind over the coming days and weeks that we will need to maintain some physical distance. Now is great time to start some new positive habits. 1. Do keep exercising - or start. Early mo...rning or late afternoon. Get into nature if you can. 2. Take breaks from your work and enjoy moments of being unhurried 3. If your paid work has changed and for many of us this is and will be the case. Now is the time to start some new projects for the future or finish off ones that you have started. 4. You can now spend quality time with your nearest and dearest 5. Catch up on some good reading 6. Rest - catch up on quality sleep. 7. Eat well - cook nourishing food 8. Reflect on what is in and out of your control - make a commitment to what it is you can control - maybe time to re-evaluate a few things. 9. Wash your hands - wash your hands - wash your hands regularly 10. Find a creative way to greet people - it may be Namaste hands which I particularly like, a wave to one another, a thumbs up and one of my very favourites Mr Spock greeting who was well ahead of his time in how he greeted the Earthlings... Let me know what you are up to - would love to hear from you. We can build a network here and if you want to get on line we are only a zoom call away. Go well - stay healthy We will stay in touch Cathryn

17.01.2022 The opportunity to reflect with colleagues about a shared experience is a wonderful thing. To have someone facilitate the conversation is a bonus. Thanks so much Michelle Ockers for asking me to be one of your guests on your #LearningUncut podcast along with Jennifer Waltmon from Australian Institute of Training & Development - AITD and Chemène Sinson. Delighted to be able to reflect out loud on my experience of converting the face-to-face AITD courses to online. I really enjoyed being able to listen to the interview. There is alot of great content and experience shared. Well worth a listen - maybe I am bias...I encourage people to listen and also if you have any comments or questions would love to have a conversation with you. 07.01.2022 A worthwhile conversation hosted by the The Australia Institute looking at the Role of Artists and the Economy. The arts, creative industries and entertainments sectors have been hit hard by COVID 19. The Cultural Sector contributes millions actually billions to the Australian economy and yet there is little understanding for how the sector operates in terms of contracts and employment. Therefore many people working across the arts and entertainment are currently unable to access government support at this stage due to the conditions put around that. This needs to be looked and changed - panellists included Greens Senator Sarah Hansen Young, Economist Richard Dennis, Creative Producer and journalist Melanie Tait and Ebony Bennett from the Australia Institute. #arts #economy #creativity
