23.01.2022 To celebrate National Volunteer Week we would love to introduce you to some of the Cairns team of Make A Wish and see what inspired them to join Make A Wish. Introducing Dallas Roesler: I first found out about Make A Wish when one of my friend's daughter was granted a wish. At the time I was a mother to two young children and promised myself that when I was afforded some spare time, I would volunteer and be part of such an amazing organisation. I’m now 50 with two, not s...o young children and was thrilled to be offered a volunteers position with my local Cairns branch. I reside in the Tablelands with my husband where we have a hobby farm and have also recently purchased a local caravan park. I’m a people person and I love to help out where ever I can. I’m hoping that as a fundraising coordinator for the Cairns Branch, I can raise the awareness of what Make A Wish does in our community as well as help bring smiles to the children that we meet. 22.01.2022 A few weeks ago the Cairns Branch of Make A Wish had the absolute pleasure of presenting a Wish Hamper to 2 year old Nate from Mareeba, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour last October. Nate has recently undergone surgery to remove the malignant tumour by globally renowned Australian neurosurgeon, Dr Charlie Teo. Nates family remain positive in their hope for a happy outcome, Every child responds differently, we believe Nate has what it takes to make it through.

19.01.2022 Beautiful Chantelle was granted her wish to have a teenage retreat where she could hang out and listen to her music presented to her on Saturday by the Cairns Branch of Make A Wish. Chantelle was visibly very happy and excited to receive her wish. Chantelle had her parents, grandparents and friends attend the presentation.

18.01.2022 Introducing another beautiful Cairns MAW volunteer: Jacinta Evans My name is Jacinta and I am a teacher at a local Cairns high school. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing sports and getting out to enjoy all the beautiful sites Cairns has to offer. I joined Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2019. I love that I get to help families create and enjoy beautiful, unforgettable family moments. The Cairns Make a Wish Branch have been so welcoming and friendly, I've really enjoyed being part of this team!

16.01.2022 As part of our Cairns 30 year celebration we would like to introduce you to one of our newest members Patricia Fernandez. Patricia works as an Accounts and Administration Assistant in a Cairns hotel. In her free time she enjoys doing arts and crafts, baking and traveling. Patricia joined Make-A-Wish Australia because she wanted to be involved and give up some of her spare time to support a worthy cause. Being the eldest in her family she has always loved kids. It means a lot to her to be part of an organisation committed to inspire kids and be a source of joy for families, especially when they need it the most.

15.01.2022 In celebration of our 30 years of making wishes come true for seriously-ill kids in Cairns, over the next few months we would like to introduce you to our team. Each of us have written why we became involved with MAW and what it means to us. First off the rank is Joe Vella. I was first invited in early 1989 to partake in a fund raiser and sponsor a table or three. The beneficiary was the Make a Wish Foundation. I was given a short run down of MAW and thought thats a good ...cause. After accepting to partake I was then told there was a theme, the theme being a mock debutant ball when the men were the girl's in gowns snd the girls in s tuxedo. Like every true manly Aussie the challenge had been set. After extreme educate and dance rehearsals, make up and wardrobe magic the night commenced. On a large screen was the introduction of how Make A Wish came to be with little Christopher being an honorary Arizona Highway Motor Bike Police Officer. I cried then, and still do today it just squeezes my heart strings. With mascara running down my cheeks I pledged myself and all I could to do what I can. We raised a whopping $28k back then, I joined MAW Cairns chapter immediately after, and here I still am just a little over 30 years later. With so many children, siblings, parents and family members we have touched, I too feel touched and humbled to be part of their lives. May god care for those now in his care and continue to support the ones left behind. For the ones blessed to remain with us and in good health, we are truly thankful for the miracles provided. Make A Wish kids, families, benefactors and volunteers are all hero's and ambassadors of a better humanity of which I consider myself appreciative to be amidst this environment of greatness. 15.01.2022 Introducing the lovely Shelley Joyce: I joined MAW nearly five years ago in Townsville and transferred up to the Cairns branch when I moved here last year. I love getting to know our wish kids over the course of the wish journey and am constantly inspired by the bravery and resilience that they show. Seeing their faces when their wish becomes a reality is the best! An added bonus is getting to volunteer alongside the many amazing people that I've met along the way.

03.01.2022 Jasmyns DREAM WISH was to go on a family holiday to the snow with her mum Melody and brother Jett. Jasmyn wanted to go on a ski lift, learn how to ski/toboggan/snowboard, have a snow fight with her brother, build a snowman and have hot chocolate with Nutella, marshmallows and whipped cream. 29.09.2021 7-year-old Armani had her Wish presentation on Sunday. Armani's Wish is to going swimming with the dolphins. She will be travelling with her beautiful family next week to the Gold Coast to have her Wish at Seaworld. Armani was presented with her wish pack and sent off to the Cairns Aquarium to enjoy the afternoon. We are really looking forward to seeing photos of Armani swimming with the dolphins.
