25.01.2022 What’s your style... Brushing teeth is something we do without thought everyday.. TWICE. A day! But should we be thinking about it more... Yes we should!... The technique with which we brush is so important for the health of our teeth and gums. We need to be brushing for 2 minutes twice a day on all surfaces of the teeth. We need to brush in gentle, circular motions and ensure our toothbrush is reaching all the way to the molars at the back! Ensure each area of the mouth is receiving the same amount of attention, and don’t forget your tongue at the end! To finish the process... SPIT... do NOT rinse and víola! 15.01.2022 We often have concerned parents calling us or coming in for appointments for their little ones after they have had an accident and knocked out or chipped their baby teeth. As parents it can be heartbreaking and stressful to witness our children experiencing the pain that comes with having a fall and injuring their teeth but more often than not our little ones recover very quickly from such instances. If a child chips or completely loses a tooth after a big fall, our main conc...ern is getting them out of pain with minimal intervention. After all, there will be an adult one there to take it’s place eventually! 15.01.2022 PPE time!!! We wanted to reach out to all of our valued patients at Mawson Dental Care to let you know that we are still open and taking care of the dental needs in our local community. Currently the government have stated that dental practices are an essential service, and we will continue to operate until they advise otherwise. ... Unfortunately, due to health and safety reasons we have made the decision to cease our preventative care program and not offer our patients hygiene appointments until COVID-19 is no longer a concern for the community. At this present moment we will be undertaking essential and emergency dentistry only and operating on skeleton staff to ensure that we are maintaining the governments advise on social distancing to the best of our ability. The Heath and safety of our staff and patients is of utmost importance to our business. We ask you please, if you have an appointment booked in with us and have been feeling unwell, have recently been overseas or have recently been in contact with an at risk person DO NOT attend your appointment. Our lovely reception staff will be contacting our patients scheduled to attend the practice in the following two weeks to check on their health and their plans to attend their appointment or not. The cause of gum disease is usually poor oral hygiene and it can lead to tooth loss or worse if it is not treated.... 13.01.2022 Let’s talk sugar and teeth.... We all love to indulge in some delicious sweet treats every now and then!! As dentists we absolutely encourage our patients to live a balanced life and enjoy treats in moderation, whilst still looking after their oral hygiene.... Copious amount of sugar in a persons diet with poor oral hygiene habits can cause cavities, dental caries, plaque and halitosis. It enables us to scan the patients tooth for a crown, carve it from a porcelain block and cement it all in the same day. 09.01.2022 Makeover time! This patient came to us wanting to keep things simple and focus on improving her front 6 top teeth. We had in depth discussions on desires and limitations and came up with a master plan.... Our patient wanted younger, whiter, more symmetrical looking teeth as they had worn from erosion and grinding over the years. As teeth accumulate wear, the bottom 'incisal' edges wear flat and the gum shrinks or recedes. The resulting outcome with time is a shorter, triangular shaped tooth with flat edges and features such as crack lines and a prominence in yellow or grey colour; AKA older looking teeth This changes the whole look of your smile, your face, and your perceived age! A smile make-over has a huge, yet subtle affect on adding youth and aesthetics to a persons entire persona let alone their face or smile. To rejuvenate this patients smile, we needed to change the worn, triangular look to her teeth, and a focused on creating youthful, bell-shaped teeth with symmetry and character. A touch of custom bleach -white porcelain too of coarse! 05.01.2022 Due for a hygiene appointment? Here is a patient of ours who was a bit overdue for a clean! However, this is a pretty standard site for our hygienists. The fact is we cannot clean our teeth 100% perfectly every time we brush, and lets face it, a lot of us could floss a lot more. The end result is a build up of plaque on our teeth over time that can cause decay and gum disease. Luckily for us our saliva protects our teeth and calcifies the plaque before it can damage our... teeth. The resulting calcified plaque is called 'calculus' or 'tartar' and cannot be brushed off with your toothbrush. Without a hygiene appointment, this calculus will continue to grow and cause damage to your gums.
