25.01.2022 During a significant fire this morning at a local Doctor’s surgery and business complex on Sir James Hardy Way in Woodcroft, our humble appliance was utilised to transport much needed replacement Breathing Apparatus cylinders to the crews there. Whilst our Brigade did not need to attend, we are proud to have our vehicle utilised in such a valuable way. Thank you to the crews of Happy Valley, Clarendon, and Morphett Vale CFS and the SAMFS who attended to extinguish the blaze. 24.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS for people in Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Easter...n Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Kangaroo Island, Riverland, Murraylands and parts of Upper South East, Lower South East, North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral districts. A vigorous front associated with a complex low pressure system will sweep across the State this evening and early Wednesday morning. The front will first impact western coasts from late this afternoon then move eastwards to reach central parts including Adelaide around midnight. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely with squally showers and thunderstorms for a period ahead of and following the front as it moves across the warning area. In addition, localised destructive wind gusts in excess of 120 km/h are a risk with stronger showers and thunderstorms, mainly about western facing coastal areas with and just ahead of the front. Damaging winds averaging 50-70 km/h at times are also possible away from shower activity. The threat of severe winds will move eastwards and ease later Wednesday morning. A cold, fresh to strong west to southwesterly airstream with scattered showers will persist. For the Adelaide area, the main risk period of severe winds will exist from around 9 pm tonight, through to around 3 am Wednesday morning. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Ceduna, Maitland, Murray Bridge and Kingscote. 20.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for Friday 27 November 2020 in the following Fire Ban Districts: West Coast - Severe Eastern Eyre Peninsula - Severe Lower Ey...re Peninsula - Severe Mid North - Severe Mount Lofty Ranges - Extreme Yorke Peninsula - Severe Lower South East - Severe Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted. The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire. Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. BUSHFIRE PLAN If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. 19.01.2022 Last night the Mawson Operations Brigade resumed face to face training after many weeks of meeting online over Microsoft Office Teams! It was fantastic to finally be back in the training space again and re-connect together as a team. Onwards and upwards!

16.01.2022 Congratulations to one of our valued members, Andrew "Drew" Francis. An award well and truly deserved! "Today was a great day. I received a ministerial commendation for outstanding and meritorious service. In the south Australian Fire and Emergency services. The award was presented by the Hon Vincent Tarzia. The award is the golden state emblem worn on my right. I would like to thank the people who put me forward for this award. I have never felt so humble. Thank you all."

12.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS for people in Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yor...ke Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Kangaroo Island and parts of Murraylands, North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral districts. Strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front which will move across the far west of the State in the late afternoon and evening. DAMAGING NORTH TO NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 50-65 km/h at times, with wind gusts around 90 km/h are expected in the west early this afternoon. This area of damaging winds will extend eastwards across central and eastern parts of the warning area, including the Mount Lofty Ranges, overnight. Overnight, damaging winds are most likely over elevated ground and southeastern slopes. Reduced visibility with areas of dust are also possible in western parts of the warning area today and northeastern parts on Wednesday. Winds will gradually ease in western parts of the warning area during the evening as winds turn west to southwesterly behind the cold front. Locations which may be affected include Cook, Port Lincoln and Cleve extending to Strathalbyn, Murray Bridge and Hawker overnight. 11.01.2022 Great news, but please still avoid the area if possible. Falling trees, hot spots and wandering animals still pose a threat to the public. Follow the directions issued by the CFS and adhere to road closures as set by SAPOL.

10.01.2022 Some of our members and invitees attended some Ground Observer training today and had a fantastic time. They were learning how to provide adequate and timely information from the Fireground back to an Incident Management Team (IMT) during a going incident. 05.01.2022 Key messaging for bushfire safety in SA given COVID restrictions From midnight tonight, a six-day initial stage of ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions will be implem...ented to protect the South Australian community from the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Review your Bushfire Survival Plan using the up-to-date advice on the SA Health website www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVID-19 UNDER LOCKDOWN During this initial restriction period, you can only leave your home for limited reasons. This includes during a bushfire emergency or if your home is unsafe. Some relocation destinations in Bushfire Safer Places will not be available due to these COVID-19 restrictions. - Cinemas and other public venues will be closed. - Visits to shopping centres are for essential food shopping only If you plan to stay with relatives or friends when you relocate to a Bushfire Safer Place, consider alternative arrangements if your plan is to stay with elderly relatives or immuno-compromised relatives or friends. This will reduce the risk of exposing vulnerable people to COVID-19. If you are in self-quarantine or self-isolation due to COVID-19, you can leave your home if you are in an emergency or your home is unsafe but try to get back into self-isolation as soon as you safely can. During an emergency, if you need to attend an emergency relief centre or a Bushfire Last Resort Refuge, you need to stay outside, alert emergency services (e.g. SAPOL, relief authorities at the location etc) and follow instructions. You must ensure you advise emergency services that you have been forced to leave self-quarantine or self-isolation due to the emergency and that: - you are a close contact of a known COVID-19 case - you have recently tested positive to COVID-19 or if - you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or - you are in self-quarantine because you have recently returned from interstate. UNDER RESTRICTIONS State government restrictions are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Leaving early during COVID-19 will be a little different this summer. While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, you can leave your home during an emergency or if your home is unsafe. Consider the following in your leave early plan to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19: During COVID-19 restrictions you may travel if you are doing so as part of your bushfire plan. If you are unwell or have symptoms, isolate yourself from others and ensure you always wear a face covering and get tested as soon as possible. Add to your 'Emergency Kit' - Additional face masks - Hand sanitiser - more than 60% alcohol - Antibacterial wipes Follow SA Health COVID-19 advice - Wear a face mask - Practise good hygiene. Wash or sanitise your hands when you enter someone else’s home, if possible - Do not shake hands, hug or kiss as a greeting - Maintain physical distancing, keep at least 1.5 metres away from others
