11.01.2022 During the holidays Eddie Longford, a local indigenous artist, painted the pathway between the hall and the junior building. The paintings represent three dreamtime stories. Soon Eddie will run a workshop for our teachers to explain each symbol and its meaning. He will teach the teachers how the students can use indigenous symbols to create their own stories and paintings. In line with cultural practices, the students will be taught to take the symbols off the painting to put together a story that represents something significant to them. Thank you Eddie. It looks amazing!

03.01.2022 Year 6 Pop Art As part of our Inquiry studies, we are making many discoveries about the diversity of our world, including visual art trends. We are focusing on Pop Art which emerged in London and New York City in the mid to late 1950s. It became popular, hence pop, as a fun, bright and attention getting form of art. Artists often use images and icons that are popular in the modern world such as comics and celebrities. Andy Warhol became a leader in Pop Art in the 1960s and... used silk printing to recreate the same image over and over. He used bright paint to fill in the image in different colours. His art, featuring Marilyn Monroe and tins of Campbells Soup, are world famous. This week, Year 6 students have coloured a copy of one image, a taco, using only four colours to brightly fill in all the spaces. We combined our images, which are all exactly the same, as one Pop Art piece. Note the bright, strong colours. Mrs Thomas See more
