24.01.2022 400kg sprint. Can’t wait to try 500kg in November. . . @penny_candy0978

24.01.2022 Online client @ayr_barrett with a PR pause bench last week of 175kg . He should peak nicely this weekend and go even heavier at his first ever powerlifting competition.

24.01.2022 Really enjoying the simplicity of squat training at the moment, just put five plates on the bar and do one more rep than last week. . . 220kg x 6 sets x 5 reps PR

23.01.2022 Some great lifts from the team this week for the @officialstrongman_ qualifier. Here is @ngarimu_vc with a 175kg clean and jerk for a 5kg PR

22.01.2022 Online client @ngarimu_vc with some one motion work to 1.4m on the stone of steel. I’ve found that crisp one motion work is the key to getting better at stones past the beginner phase. This explosive movement targets all the weak points in the usual lap then load stone movement, without beating the body up like maximal stone work. Earlier this year Ngar hit a 200kg stone by only doing this style of training so watch out for a huge world record for the under 90kg class later this year.

22.01.2022 Eddie Hall’s training program leading up to his win at the 2017 World’s Strongest Man competition (according to an interview in Men’s Fitness). His training was the ultimate in simplicity but sometimes simple is better

22.01.2022 400kg yoke from the @wastrongman qualifier today. First place

21.01.2022 Rule #1 of being an online coach. When you actually train with clients in real life always make sure to out angle them. . . @john_sleevesunitviii @deathwish_dan

20.01.2022 Hammer Throw from the weekend. Your meant to keep your arms relaxed and long on this one

20.01.2022 CAR WALK MINDSET . . Lifting a car was initially very confronting for me the first time one came up in a strongman competition. In the mind of the average person running with a car on your back is impossible. It’s one thing to lift the same weight on a yoke, but when you are inexperienced in strongman the reality of having to lift an actual car can be frightening. .... . My solution was to visualize standing up and running with one of those kids cardboard car costumes. While it might seem ridiculous this change in mindset made what was previously a tough event feel like nothing. . . This coming week I challenge everyone reading this to look at their training and figure out if a certain weight/exercise is hard because it is actually hard or because of preconceived notions about your own capabilities. If your memory was wiped right now and you had no idea of what your physical limits were how strong would you really be ? See more

20.01.2022 Looking forward to jumping in on some Highland Games for fun over the next few months. This was a stone run from the last Highland Games I did a few years ago.

18.01.2022 - Post Cancer Transformation - . . My transformation from August last year when I was a melted cookie dough 110kg a few months post cancer treatment (couldn’t train for months and comfort ate ice cream almost daily) now 120kg in much better nick. .... . Be grateful for your setbacks, if your goals are big enough to persevere and stay the course, these bumps in the road will only make you stronger. See more

18.01.2022 Some personal and client transformations over the years. Could you be next ?

18.01.2022 @mauroaja back in the triple Bodyweight deadlift club with this 260kg effort . . Last time Mauro hit this was a year ago so it’s a huge breakthrough getting back to this number. Now we have figured out what gets his deadlift moving I’m excited to see where we can push it. Next milestone 3.5 x Bodyweight

18.01.2022 Another brick in the wall today on my journey to hitting a 140kg strict press. . . 100kg x 6 sets x 5 reps PR .... . The plan for next week is to wrap up this volume phase with a zesty 6 x 6 at the same weight See more

17.01.2022 Great podcast today with the boys this afternoon @martinmcphilimey and Ayrton Barret (no tag as he’s currently on a Instagram hiatus). We discuss or recent competitions and the plan moving forward to prepare for the state finals. Follow Martin to catch this podcast when it drops in a few weeks time.

16.01.2022 Why did the strongman cross the road ? Wrong answers only

16.01.2022 Online client @ngarimu_vc (under 90kg weight class) with a huge 240kg front squat for a 15kg PR . . Next year we are putting in the work for 270kg or 3 x Bodyweight to prepare to defend his title of World’s Strongest Man under 90kg

15.01.2022 Strict Press session 100kg x 6 sets x 4 reps . . Week two of my six week plan to hit a 140kg strict press. Next week is the same weight for 6 x 5 which should be spicy

15.01.2022 First deadlift session back after competition. The temptation is always there after a successful comp to push for even heavier weights, however that’s just not how the body works. Lower your expectations and be prepared for technique and strength to be off after a peak. Take a few steps back and work up towards the next goal, eventually learning to enjoy the ebb and flow of training.

15.01.2022 Indoor rock climbing with the boys. From left to right 120kg, 90kg and 60kg.

15.01.2022 Workout two out of six for my plan to finally hit a 300kg squat. Today was an easy 6 sets x 4 reps at 220kg

15.01.2022 So many highlights from the comp on the weekend I could keep posting for weeks. But the effort my little brother gave was something special. Dan weighed in at under 80kg but with nobody to go up against he stepped up and took on the under 90kg boys. This was a 240kg (triple bodyweight) elevated deadlift for 15 reps . . @danzymccall

14.01.2022 One of the my highlights from the comp on the weekend was watching online clients @ngarimu_vc and @deathwish_dan going head to head on the log press for rep. Dan just edged out the Ngar with 10 reps at 105kg. What a battle !

12.01.2022 Subscribe to my new YouTube channel - link is in bio. New content will be posted daily for the next month

12.01.2022 It was time to level up today with some serious volume on squats 220kg for 6 x 6. . . The hard work is now done, time to peak out and finally hit 300kg

12.01.2022 My team from the comp on the weekend . . @troy_ainsworth - 3rd place on countback under 90kg division .... . @dawsonstrengthsystems - Second place heavyweights . . @danzymccall 1st place u80kg . . @ayr_barrett 4th under 105kg . . @maximusmccall 1st place heavyweights . . @ogburndaniel 2nd place under 90kg . . @ngarimu_vc 1st place under 105kg . . @deathwish_dan 2nd place under 105kg See more

11.01.2022 It’s time for me to finally tick off the 300kg squat milestone this year. Today was workout one of around six before I give it a crack . . 220kg x 6 sets x 3 reps

11.01.2022 Want to do the worlds most painful bicep exercise ? Try banded EZ curls with a quarter rep at the top and a 5 second negative.

11.01.2022 TOP 5 SIDE DELTOID FINISHERS . . One set of 100 reps. Simple and brutal, pick some very light weights and don’t put them down until 100 reps are finished. .... . 2-3 sets x 30-50 reps. Pretty similar to the 100 reps but a bit more sustainable and less mentally taxing. . . Trifuckta. Do 10 reps with a 4 second negative then 20 partial quarter reps with a 2 second hold at the top of each rep. Finally finish with a 30 second hold at the top. . . John Brown method. Do 12 reps then without rest increase the weight and do 12 again, finally increase the weight and do 12 again. Take a short break then repeat this savagery with 15 and 20 reps for each set. . . Rear delt swings. Ok it’s not side delts but you need to train rear delts just as much as the showy side ones. Do 60 reps in a incline rear delt fly. Don’t worry about full range just hang and swing. After you have finished the initial 60 reps cut the weight in half and do 30 then finally drop the weight in half again and do 10 full range squeezing at the top. See more

11.01.2022 Online client and under 105kg strongman @deathwish_dan with a strong 400kg yoke run for a huge PR

11.01.2022 @ngarimu_vc with a 310kg deadlift for a 10kg deadlift PR from his latest training block . . Some great progress but we want that 705lbs/320kg mark to fall this year so back to the drawing board to get some more deadlift gains by the end of this year

10.01.2022 Another first time 180kg bench press from one of my clients this time @paul_hough18 at a bodyweight of around 100kg. Not the cleanest lift but a 30kg PR from three months ago I believe. Great effort for an old has-been

10.01.2022 New video of a big deadlift and strongman medley session coming soon to my YouTube channel . . @partografiaphotographyandfilm @musclepitstrong

10.01.2022 Congratulations to @monalmiche who just set a new French record in the log press 125kg in the under 90kg weight class . . Amaury isn’t training with me at the moment but he messaged me to say that the program we did earlier this year played a big role in hitting this lift. Well done mate, can wait to see you push this record ever higher !

10.01.2022 Over the last few weeks I’ve covered the training splits of two world’s strongest man winners. Now for something different here is the six day a week training program of eight time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. This program is high intensity, height volume and high frequency so attempt at your own risk !

10.01.2022 Online client @ngarimu_vc with a 96.5 circus dumbbell press for 3 sets of 3 . . The world record in this lift is 97.55kg for the u90kg weight class so safe to say the world record is about to be obliterated very shortly

10.01.2022 Ngarimu Ahipene’s training program leading up to his win at the 2019 @officialstrongman_ games which gave him the title of World’s Strongest Man under 90kg. Coming from a CrossFit background training twice a day Ngar thrives of a much greater volume and frequency than most strongman athletes. In particular he recovers extremely well from squats so we employed a four times a week frequency to really push his squat to new heights.

09.01.2022 Excellent 9 week recomp from online client @hadleyswan. Hadley is 100kg in both pics (he is around 6’5) which means that fat is and muscle is substantially. For the final phase we are stepping it up training each muscle group 4 times a week which is the fastest way to put on muscle tissue in beginner trainees so I’m expecting some dramatic changes these last three weeks to dial in the full transformation

08.01.2022 Nine truths one lie, comment below which one you think is a lie 1. I lived in Norway for six months 2. I used to be a performing hypnotist 3. I’ve done a powerlifting competition and an obstacle course race in the same weekend... 4. I used to live in a castle 5. When I was growing up my breakfast was 24 weet bix every morning 6. I’m missing my right testicle 7. At university I never went to lectures and would learn the entire curriculum the night before for every exam 8. I can do the splits 9. I have a black belt in Goju - Ryu 10. I started talking at around six months old (normal age is 11-14 months) See more

08.01.2022 Look it’s me standing on a rock. I can spend hours crafting an informative post full of training information that could transform your lifting, but due to how human psychology works pictures such as these always get way more likes.

08.01.2022 My current training program for the @wastrongman state finals. I don’t know all the events yet so this could change slightly in the upcoming weeks. Really happy with how I responded to the first week of training some I’m excited to see how the next few months of training go

08.01.2022 Online client Ayrton with a 275kg deficit deadlift for a PR . . The last few months have been about improving technique with a lot of pause work and holding good positions. Ayrton has trusted the process even though the heaviest we have gone until now is 230kg. Excited to see what he pulls at his first powerlifting comp in a few weeks time

08.01.2022 Deadlift event from yesterday 280kg for 16 reps. Knew I needed to beat 15 for the win so paced myself and got it done

07.01.2022 Some great progress from online client @pepestrongboi In 12 weeks he dropped from 92kg to 84kg and made some big strength gains : . . Squat 170 190kg .... Push Press 110kg 115kg . Deadlift 230kg 240kg . . Pete had to do his testing a few days early which means he wasn’t fully peaked for these either. I’ve got no doubt he was good for a 200kg squat and a 120kg press. Next phase we move back up in bodyweight and push these numbers even higher See more

07.01.2022 Deadlifts getting back in form with an easy 260kg for 6 sets of 3

07.01.2022 HOW TO DRAMATICALLY CHNAGE YOUR PHYSIQUE (SIMPLIFIED) . . 1) Keep food intake to levels that support muscle growth but not body fat .... . 2) Get dramatically stronger . . Here is a great example from online client @hadleyswan. I posted his transformation at the 8 week mark a few weeks back but this is his final result after 12 weeks of programming. He is 100kg in both pictures but with massively improved body composition. . . Strength increase : . . Squat 120kg x 3 150kg x 1 . . Deadlift 140kg x 3 190kg x 1 . . Bench Press 80kg x 3 110kg x 1 . . Pullups Bodyweight x 10 Bodyweight x 5 x 10 See more

07.01.2022 New podcast out with @martinmcphilimey Myself and Ayrton Barret discuss our recent competition results and how training will change in the lead up to the state finals. Sound on for a funny sound bite from the podcast.

06.01.2022 The leg size has been built to squat 300kg, all I need to do is slowly get used to lifting heavy. Today was 230kg for 3 sets of 5. Fast and easy just like it is supposed to be at this stage of the program

05.01.2022 Deadlift day @musclepitstrong 260kg for 5 sets x 4 reps for a big volume PR

05.01.2022 ‘Strongman Cardio’ Workouts . . I originally got the idea for these workouts from an article of the same name by Mike Westerling. Pick two strongman events and load them up with roughly 50% weights. Do sets of 15m on each alternating back and forth until 5 sets of each are done. This is deceptively hard and sometimes takes 10-15 min the first time around. The goal is to work this down to <5 min at which point you will be in great shape for the upcoming medley in competition.... . . How to implement this into the plan : . . 1) Incorporate this in the off season if strongman specific endurance is a weak point. . 2) If a medley is coming up in competition use this to train much harder on the implements than the actual medley. If you can push for 5-10 minutes a 30-60 second medley on the day will feel like nothing and won’t leave you gassed. . . Online Client @mauroaja over in Germany smashing out a savage sled drag / sandbag carry medley. See more

05.01.2022 180kg bench press for @ayr_barrett . . 130kg to 180kg in two years following my programs

04.01.2022 Ngarimu Ahipene just unofficially broke the world record circus dumbbell press in his weight class in a training session yesterday hitting 100kg ! . . Ngar hasn’t trained this lift since March, he is just messing around hitting some maxes for fun before he starts his next program. Looks like we have to add another world record attempt to the list for Dec 13th @wastrongman

03.01.2022 First day of a new shoulder program to strict press 140kg. This first workout was about getting a heap of repeated exposures to a heavy load so that the load becomes normal to my nervous system which will help me rapidly progress reps over the coming weeks. . . 100kg x 12 sets x 3 reps (80% of current max)

03.01.2022 @s.h.a.a.h.n.i with a 90kg clean and press last week for a 15kg PR . . New program starts next week working towards 100kg

02.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone! Let’s start the week off right and tag a mate in the comments who skips head day . . Photoshop by @niaal_af

02.01.2022 Sneak peek of my latest YouTube video. Watch via the link in my bio to see my attempt at 300kgs

01.01.2022 Remember when trying to get stronger muscle moves weight . . If you are competing in a strength sport one of your top priorities should be to fill out your chosen weight class with as much muscle as possible to maximize performance. Here is online client @s.h.a.a.h.n.i who has made some impressive gains in prepping for three national record attempts this Sunday

Videography on point as always thanks to the lads at @partografiaphotographyandfilm See more

01.01.2022 190kg chin-ups (120kg + 70kg) for three reps. Was a bit fatigued going in to this session so couldn’t get a full rep, but when I’m fresh that shouldn’t be an issue. Getting very very close to my long term goal of a 200kg weighted chin-up

01.01.2022 - Lifting the REVO stone - . . @perthstrengthcoach had the bright idea of buying a 160kg stone and leaving it a a commercial gym where nobody would be able to budge it. When it came time to move the stone back to his house I got roped into helping out. Had to lift it cold as the only other stone in the gym was 50kg. Moved pretty well considering, I’m very confident my max would be around 200kg at the moment with a warmup and a peak. .... . Currently my stone training is just maintenance work which consists of 3 x 3 one motions on the stone of steel to a high platform every second week. Once past the beginner stages I’m a firm believer that lighter and faster is the best way to train stones, put your energy into driving up your squat and deadlift instead. See more
