25.01.2022 Our economy is changing and the skillsets you need to use to be successful in your chosen career might have changed too. How we interact with colleagues, customers and deal with our own emotional state is vital no matter your role or industry. #EQ #EveryPersonEveryChance

24.01.2022 As we get ready to celebrate International Day of People with Disability - Australia on 3 December 2020, we’re celebrating Queensland customer Dillon. Dillon (pictured left) is one of around 3 million Australians living with depression and/or anxiety*. When our team first met Dillon he found it difficult to look people in the eye and hold a conversation. ... The MAX team at Deception Bay rallied around Dillon providing health supports and preparing Dillon for work. Upon hearing of Dillon’s love of fish and marine life, Dillon’s consultant Jules connected with fabulous local employer Sue, of 100% Reef Safe an aquarium supplier north of Brisbane. Sue was willing to see the ability in disability and offered Dillon an internship and now a position at her thriving business. Dillon has taken to his new job like a fish to water. Tasked with jobs including propagating the coral, feeding the fish, cleaning the tanks and serving customers, Dillon’s day is diverse and to his delight, surrounded by sea creatures. Congratulations Dillon - we wish you every success! #DisableStereotypes #SeeTheAbilityInDisability #IDPwD #IDPD #EveryPersonEveryChance *Special thanks to Australian Network on Disability for the statistics.

24.01.2022 Around the country, thousands of Year 12 students are thinking about their next steps after school. It is an emotional time, for many reasons, and not every student will know exactly what they want to do next. But Indy, who lives with autism, has her sights firmly set on a career that could one day help her save lives. It’s been an honour for our School Leaver Employment Supports team to work with Indy on her journey from school to further study. We’d like to thank Indy, and her mum Helen, for telling their story. 21.01.2022 She doesn’t know it yet, but she really is going to change the world. I’m very, very proud of her. Watching your child leave school and make their way in the world is such a special moment for a parent. 21.01.2022 Our Indigenous Advisory Committee has just published MAX’s first progress report for its new Reconciliation Action Plan. Our deepest thanks go to everyone on the MAX RAP Working Group and our IAC, for their tireless work over the last six months. ... 20.01.2022 Thank you to our wonderful team in Elizabeth, SA, who sorted, wrapped and delivered more than 65 Christmas presents (in record time) to children at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital last month. Our team were racing against the clock when they started wrapping because the state had just announced it was going into lockdown. They had three hours to get the presents to the hospital’s neurology department before COVID restrictions kicked in. They did it - just in the... nick of time. The presents themselves? Well, they were quarantined until the COVID risk was gone. The team was supporting important local charity, the Jaymie-Lee Ross Foundation, which was set up in 2016 in memory of Jaymie-Lee, who passed away following a seizure in 2015 at the age of just 18. The charity raises vital funds for seizure mats and monitors. We wish everyone at the Women's and Children's Health Network, and the Jaymie-Lee Ross Foundation, a happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

19.01.2022 Paco, a MAX student in NSW, had carved out a name for himself as a gifted guitarist in Spain. When he moved to Australia, he had to start all over again. He talked to the ABC recently about the life-changing impact that his English language studies at MAX have had on settling into life in Australia. A really interesting interview at a time when the Australian Department of Home Affairs is supporting migrants and humanitarian entrants into the country by increasing access to... its Adult English Migrant Program. https://www.abc.net.au//migrant-english-program/100082070

18.01.2022 Justice Storer (pictured) is a proud and strong Yuin* woman proving nothing should stand in her way. Coming from a background of generational unemployment, Justice has at times struggled with her mental health. But, when she joined MAX, the team found Justice was enthusiastic and determined to not only find a job, but a career. We work with Apprenticeship Careers Australia in Wollongong and when I heard there was an opening for a Plant Operator, I felt Justice would be perfe...ct for the role and she was up for the challenge, says Justice’s MAX consultant, Leah Haak. As they prepared for her interview, Justice shared her motivation for applying with Leah. I want to prove to everyone, especially young, Aboriginal women, that we can make something of ourselves, prove ourselves and be the best, even in a male-dominated industry, says Justice. Within a month of starting her new role as a plant operator, Justice began learning to operate large plant equipment and monitor in the control room. She has even begun showing newer staff the ropes. Her Employers and colleagues love her so much that they have reached out and asked us to find ‘another Justice’ and while I am happy to support another amazing young person into a great opportunity, I know there is only one Justice!, says Leah. We’d like to take a moment to acknowledge and honour the wonderful work of Warrigal Employment, part of Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation. Warrigal Employment walk alongside many of our Indigenous customers, like Justice, providing mentoring, support and guidance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout the Illawarra. *Yuin people are the traditional owners of the Wallaga Lake area and around the southern coast of New South Wales.

04.01.2022 Since his teens, Brandon has wanted to work in one place - and one place only. His local McDonald’s restaurant near Newcastle. It was an emotional day for Brandon, and his mum Lisa, when he got the offer of employment from the restaurant. Our team in Charlestown is privileged to have supported Brandon, now 23, into his role and would like to thank McDonald's for seeing and nurturing his talent. It was amazing to see his story covered by NBN Television http://ow.ly/Q3u750C...wc0e This week, on International Day of People with Disability, the UN is asking everyone to come together to celebrate the talent of people with disability and 'see the ability in disability' #idpwd

02.01.2022 People experiencing domestic or family abuse can find themselves facing a near impossible choice. Escape home in the hope of finding secure accommodation. Or remain in an unsafe environment with an abusive partner. RizeUp runs a number of critical programs that support and empower families who take a leap of faith and flee violent households. Providing rapid response support (like emergency relocation), as well as help to set-up and furnish homes. Since 2015, this wonderful... charity has helped over 1,000 families restart their lives. But this is a really important period. Reported rates of domestic or family violence have increased significantly during COVID with enforced household isolation. So, we’d like to extend our very sincere thanks to every member of our staff who recently donated to RizeUp through the MAX Foundation. The MAX Foundation’s $5,000 donation can help RizeUp refurbish a home for a family fleeing violence. If you’d like to find out more about the life changing work RizeUp is doing and how to support them, or if you are affected by domestic or family violence, you can find out more on their website: http://ow.ly/vKyO50C8HzE Please note if you are immediately affected by this issue, RizeUp recommends visiting their website in private browsing mode. The MAX Foundation is funded by employee donations and matched dollar for dollar by MAX Solutions. It donates to organisations nominated by its members.

01.01.2022 Around ten years ago, Piyanan moved to Australia from Thailand for a new adventure leaving behind a small cafe she’d owned for six years. A busy mother of two, she’s spent her time in Australia supporting her family at home. Building a life in Sydney and settling into her local community. Establishing yourself in a country with a different language is not easy. Nor is it easy, after six years out of the workforce, to reset a career in hospitality during a global pandemi...c. So we’d like to congratulate Piyanan on securing work at popular restaurant, Char Cha Authentic Lebanese Cuisine , in Riverwood (we hear the Fattoush is delicious!) Our team in Bankstown is privileged to have supported Piyanan on this latest step in her Australian adventure.
