24.01.2022 Spirit of Eureka have come on board with supporting Convoy against Bus Privatisation #noworkerleftbehind "The enduring and timeless spirit of that just rebellion against the injustice of British colonial authority, and a call for unity and loyalty to your comrades, is embodied in the two quotes adopted by the Spirit of Eureka Committee, the Eureka rebels pledge of allegiance We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and ...liberties and Raffaelo Carbonis declaration at a monster meeting, I call on my fellow diggers, irrespective of nationality, religion or colour, to salute the Southern Cross as the refuge of all oppressed from all countries on earth. These quotes are as relevant in todays Australia as they were in the 1854 rebellion and express the true collective values of ordinary peoples unity, solidarity and fight for justice, democracy and sovereignty. They continue to inspire our struggles today. Australias multiculturalism was born at Eureka Stockade where more than 20 nationalities and different religions all united in a common fight." https://www.spiritofeureka.org/index.php/features

23.01.2022 Disgusting behaviour from Officeworks. After posting record profits during covid they are offering reduced conditions and a real wage cut. Watch this space for further action coming soon!

23.01.2022 Today a small yet determined group of unionists showed up to Sonic Healthcare HQ in Sydney to protest their abysmal treatment of medical courier gig workers in Britain. Sonic Healthcare is using COVID-19 as a cover to sack union activists and have put global public health and safety at risk due to their extremely poor healthcare practices. Representatives and members were present from the RTBU, TWU, UWU, NTEU, CPSU and the British Teachers Federation. Join the IWGB Virtual Picket! Support TDL medical couriers on strike! at approx 9pm Australian time tonight to support not only British gig workers, but all workers everywhere #noworkerleftbehind

22.01.2022 Staement of solidarity from Workers for Climate Action encouraging attendance and support for Convoy against Bus Privatisation #noworkerleftbehind: "Workers for Climate Action opposes bus privatisation. Greenhouse gas emissions from transport are increasing faster than any other sector. Expanding and improving public transport is one important way of reducing transport emissions and providing good union jobs. When transport services are privatised, they are run only for profit, services get cut, fares increase, corners are cut, ridership goes down and emissions go up. We need the opposite: more services, cheap fares, local procurement of zero-emissions trains and buses, better planning and integration of services, and good union jobs for all manufacturing, maintenance and transport workers."

20.01.2022 Staff and students at the University of Sydney have won a huge reduction in course cuts after yesterdays protest. They stormed the Vice Chancellors building yesterday, and 3 hours later the VC was emailing staff that cuts in the Arts faculty would not be 30%, but now only 8%. What a lesson to the union and student movement everywhere dare to struggle, dare to win!

19.01.2022 Today May 1 Movement was proud to organise a car convoy to support over 500 striking United Workers Union members at Wyong Woolworths Distribution Centre. These workers are striking for pay parity, as Woolworths pays regional distribution centre workers up to 16% less than those based in major cities. Disgracefully, these workers have been informed today by Woolworths that they will be locked out until next Wednesday for taking 24 hours protected industrial action. This dispute will be a crucial struggle for the future of logistics workers in Australia. As such, May 1 Movement will be assisting to provide bodies on the picket until next Wednesday. We will also be exploring our options to take the fight to Woolworths using every angle possible and by any means necessary. Thank you to all who came out today, and stay tuned!

18.01.2022 "A car convoy of 40 cars, along with people on bikes, circled parliament house several times to protest the NSW governments plans to privatise bus services on June 18. Demonstrations were also held outside the electoral offices of Liberal MPs in the north shore and eastern suburbs, the next areas slated for the bus sell-off. The protests were organised to coincide with a parliamentary debate on bus privatisation, triggered by a Keep Our Buses Public petition signed by 22,000... people. The convoy was supported by the Rail, Tram and Bus Union Tram and Bus Division, the Maritime Union of Australia Sydney Branch, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union NSW & ACT Branch, Australian Services Union NSW & ACT Branch and Unions NSW. Spokesperson Paul McAleer said that the group opposes privatisation for all the reasons the public understands, including the shameless distribution of wealth away from the community and into private profit. We know that privatisation leads to poorer services across society and will always be opposed by those of us in the community who strive for publicly owned assets, said McAleer, who is also the Maritime Union of Australia Sydney branch secretary. Greens MLC David Shoebridge said the Greens back the movement community and union movements demands that essential services be kept in public hands. Greens MLC Abigail Boyd said: We know that public buses deliver better services and that privatisation always ends up costing more and delivering less. Alex North, national coordinator for the Australian Unemployed Workers Union, said: Private buses arent just bad for commuters, the community and unemployed workers, theyre bad for bus drivers as well. Accessibility to good public transport is essential in fighting inequality and creating jobs. May 1 Movement organiser Robert Car said: Public transport belongs to the public. We will never surrender public assets to private enterprise who will bleed the community and public dry for profit."

17.01.2022 Great car convoy with Refugee Action Coalition Sydney RAC to Villawood detention centre yesterday with around 30 cars and 50 activists driving and cycling up to the entrance to Birmingham Avenue where Serco security guards halted us. Thanks and solidarity to our friends and comrades at ASEN NSW and Pride in Protest for organising. We live in a world of unprecedented economic inequality where 4 billion people own the collective wealth of 26 people. Billions of people constitu...te a nomadic prolateriat, who immigrate across the world for the rare privilege to work and be safe from war and famine. Many of these refugees find themselves in detention centres for the crime of desiring work and safety, such as our convoy target the Villawood Detention Centre. The struggle of immigrants is included in the unity in struggle for all workers everywhere, it is a union struggle regardless of national borders

14.01.2022 An outstanding NTEU NSW NDA Car and Bike Convoy today. We will not lie down and accept wage cuts, job cuts, university workers being excluded from JobKeeper and the further casualisation of employment in the higher education sector. Our message was one of simple militant solidarity with higher education workers which was well received by the public, community and the media. No worker from the NTEU New South Wales should pay for the COVID-19 crisis while universities and high...er education institutions remain extremely profitable based on the continuing exploitation of their workforce. A huge thank you to all today who drove, cycled, walked and demonstrated for the right to support all workers everywhere during pandemic conditions. Where there is a will, there is always a way! Dare to struggle, dare to win NTEU New South Wales! Until next time! #noworkerleftbehind

14.01.2022 May 1 Movement hosted Speakout-Protest: No Lock-out of Workers demanding Pay Parity! to showcase Sydney community support for United Workers Union warehouse workers that have been disgracefully locked out by the Woolworths. You can support these workers by signing our digital petition here: https://forms.gle/1BXy9GCQXQUtDrAT7 "Woolworths warehouse workers in Warnervale have been negotiating for improved wages and conditions since March. These workers have been disgracefully ...locked out of their workplace by Woolworths while exercising their democratic right to strike. Workers are asking for: -Improved wages that align with Sydney warehouses (currently entry level jobs at the Warnervale Woolworths warehouse are the 2nd lowest paid in the country!) -More permanent job opportunities and better rights for casual workers -A classification structure that enables career progression and proper pay. These warehouse workers have worked incredibly hard during the COVID-19 pandemic to make sure groceries are on supermarket shelves, risking their health and safety. Meanwhile, Woolworths sales increased by 11.3% to $11.2 billion between February and April 2020! Digitally sign our petition toady to show Woolworths that you support well paid, secure jobs in the Central Coast community!"

13.01.2022 Employers are exposed to billions of dollars in back pay claims due to their use of the permanent casual rort scheme. Workers engaged as casuals in a permanent arrangement will be entitled to seek permanent allowances such as sick and annual leave under a recent CFMEU fought Federal court ruling for mining workers. The federal government and their business lobbyists will attempt to kill these class action claims through legislative changes in upcoming Accord talks. It is... not clear to what extent in "industries like hospitality, casual work arrangements are more likely to be irregular and intermittent in line with the legal definition and community expectations." This legal precedent has potentially huge implications for all casuals across the Australian economy especially young workers. Young workers are a key class that are exploited in permanent casual rort schemes. With a figure of 8 billion being the estimate for mining workers backpay, what would the figure be for all young Australian casual workers? In any case, a class action for young workers in permanent casual rort schemes looks to be viable and lucrative. Bravo to the CFMEU for paving the way, showing leadership, and not being afraid to take on employers with highly exploitative working arrangements https://me.cfmeu.org.au//workpac-v-rossato-federal-court-w

13.01.2022 May 1 Movement is calling on all concerned community members and unionists to support Officeworks Distribution Centre workers who are taking strike action for job security during the COVID-19 pandemic. Officeworks has offered sub-inflation wage increases with cuts to overtime penalties and no protection for future job security. This comes at a time when Officeworks is recording record pandemic profit. May 1 Movement will fight alongside any worker fighting for better conditio...ns and better communities-we congratulate Officeworks warehouse workers for taking a stand! Locations of the action is the Officeworks north rocks sites (15-17 loyalty road North rocks 2151) See more

13.01.2022 Scott Morrison has invited unions to the table. Will unions and workers be the meal is the question. We cannot accept another Accord. Simple. It is most of the ...reason why we are fucked now. If we collaborate around so-called common interests with bosses and governments we will lose. There are no common interests with bosses.

03.01.2022 Sonic Healthcare a multi-million dollar Australian multinational is endangering public health and safety & purging trade unionists. The IWGB - Independent Workers Union of Great Britain is currently taking the fight to Sonic Healthcare. We encourage all involved in May 1 Movement to get behind the IWGB as we plan to mobilise against Sonic with the International Transport Workers Federation in Australia. We stand for international unity in struggle: "Sonic is seeking to dismi...ss 10 of their couriers in a weeks time, including outspoken trade union activists who have criticised Sonics failings on health and safety. Having worked throughout this crisis transporting COVID-19 samples, these key workers are now being chucked on the scrap heap. The massive discrepancy between what Sonic says and what Sonic does has been detailed extensively in the Sonic Dossier: Pathological Duplicity in the Pursuit of Profit, which has been sent to all 650 MPs in the UK. Weve also sent an investor alert detailing Sonics appalling behaviour to over 1000 people at 230 of Sonics shareholders. We are now calling on people across the world to write to Sonics shareholders. We must tell them it is not acceptable to use the pandemic as a smokescreen to purge trade union activists and drive down costs."
