25.01.2022 The swell in the harbour in Newcastle made the waves look like a silver mountain range. The surfers turned the sea into people soup; they were specks in a wild turbulent ocean. The last pictures are of the free ocean pool, built before WW1. @ Newcastle, New South Wales

19.01.2022 And here are some genuine antiques....my favourite crown block which I have used over 35 years, a selection of handmade lace which was my grandmothers, and in the second picture, mother- of-pearl opera glasses and a silver Art Deco walking cane handle - which had also been my grandmothers.

19.01.2022 Its scary how much you can accumulate in 30 years. I have loads of weird and wonderful stuff, but in the middle of tagging, sorting, labelling. I will try to post a few pictures in the next few days. If you know anyone who would be interested, please let them know. Thank you

19.01.2022 The moon at the end of my street....

19.01.2022 A bit of understated luxury.....One-of-a-kind hat with a parasisal crown and a very wide (13cm) Milanese straw brim which can be tilted up or down. I have trimmed it with a tea- dyed hand- loomed silk sash and a whimsical50s thingy. Pleas direct message if interested. #sunhat #weddinghat #eleganthat #comfortablehat

17.01.2022 So looking forward to tomorrow nights programme of Anh Dos Brush with Fame interviewing and painting @lisa_wilkinson s portrait. Both Anh and Lisa are, I think, very personable, genuine and warm - a great combination. This is a picture of Lisa wearing my Marlene Dietrich style hat on a holiday to South Italy and Sicily last year. Lisa bought her hat from @theheatherhatter at Mosman Markets last year. Sadly, many markets have not re- opened, including my regular one, Padd...ington Markets. You can, however, buy my hats online, or please direct message me. #lookinggorgeous #lisawilkinson #travelhat #sunhat #marlenedietrichhat #anhdohbrushwithfame See more

16.01.2022 A day at The Basin. A few days ago, we caught the cute little ferry from Palm Beach across Pittwater, and had this piece of paradise to ourselves....apart from 10 shy wallabies and their joeys. Heaven!

16.01.2022 Arab Roses1971, crayon and oil on canvas board, by Winifred Nicholson, 1893- 1981. Thank you to everyone who visited @paddingtonmarkets yesterday. It was wonderful to be back at the markets, albeit on such a windy cold day. Thank you to everyone who came over to say hello, and to those who bought one of my hats - hope you enjoy wearing it- thank you for supporting my business.

13.01.2022 A morning in Centennial Park. So cute to see these cygnets! Huge flocks of corellas and other waterfowl. The park is very lush and green after all the rain. #centennialpark #cygnets #blackswans @ Sydney, Australia

13.01.2022 This little hat is going to Moxies friend, Luna. Moxie, my super- cute little neighbour @being_bloss is modelling it in the next few pictures. Moxie, who is just under one and a half, has her own customised trilby with raffia pom-poms. 13.01.2022 Studio Sale....Lots and Lots of Goodies. Lots of vintage, interesting fabrics and trimmings. One day only! On Friday, August 28 in my studio in Darlinghurst, Sydney.

12.01.2022 To my valued customers, This is a special sale to celebrate 35 years of making hats - my first sale ever! I started making hats in 1986, never imagining that it would lead to a viable business, having sold my hats through Bon Marche in Paris, Bergdorf Goodman in New York, and other beautiful shops around the world. My primary outlet has been markets, fairs, and special events. I am a people person and enjoy the interaction and the energy of markets. Now there are no markets..., fairs, or special events, no beautiful shops. We have, to keep social distance, or to self- isolate. Not words in anyones vocabulary until very recently. Strange times. However, there are many positives, and the world remains a beautiful place. We can send hats anywhere in Australia; to the rest of the world may take a little longer) or maybe you want to treat yourself. My hats are classical, durable, malleable, and are made to be worn by both men and women. Great to wear when walking, gardening, and for any other outdoor activities. Comfortable. Lightweight. Nothing is synthetic, everything is handwoven, hand-dyed, and hand-blocked. From now until midnight, May 31, 2020, use Codename Mayahats when you order any hat to receive 10% off the regular price. If you live in Sydney and prefer to be fitted and/ or to choose from a large selection, please email me: [email protected]. If not, we can send you photographs- please contact us via www.mayaneumann.com Looking forward to hearing from you! Stay safe. Maya xx

12.01.2022 Visiting this part of Mt Buffalo ( The Horn and The Hump, a Boulder strewn wonderland)felt like a visit to a sci- fi movie set- otherworldly. It was a treat to spend the day walking along some of The Gorge, with vistas of vertical granite drops, waterfalls, and gnarled ancient gums.

11.01.2022 Marlene Dietrich style with 11 cm wide brim and adjustable 58 cm crown. Is available with denim blue ( pictured) or navy grosgrain trim. 10.01.2022 Okay....now for something completely different. I could post something about the wild, wet and windy weather, but would prefer something light and funny. This little clip never fails to put a smile on my face. Turn up the volume and enjoy!

10.01.2022 The last day of my holiday in Victoria was spent cramming in 3 hours in/ near Bendigo. Can’t wait to go back. I had a quick walk around the Chinese temple - I look forward to visiting the museum next time, as Bendigo has a fascinating history and the wealth that the gold rush era created intrigues me. I briefly visited a secondhand bookstore opposite the Chinese temple....drooool! Could have spent a lot of money in there! Then, off to see the dahlias in the conservatory. Gorg...eous! From there, off to the Mary Quant, British Fashion from the mid ‘50’s- mid ‘70’s at Bendigo Art Gallery. What a dynamo Mary Quant was! Not only did she create a fashion revolution, she was also at the forefront at branding her clothing, footwear, makeup, toys, lingerie etc. It brought back memories of groovy clothes I wore in 1966-67, white vinyl mini dress, purple suede square- toed shoes with purple fishnet stockings, hot pink and purple Perspex earrings... The last photos were taken at the largest Buddhist stupa in the Southern Hemisphere. Half an hour outside Bendigo. I would love to go back there to go on a retreat. Amongst all the various denominational shrines in the park by the stupa, I found a statue of one of my spirit animals- a wombat ( or maybe it’s a marmot?). It seems a good picture to end my wonderful holiday. All my thanks to my good friend Kerry whom I stayed with in Melbourne, and to lovely Din @dingograms who I shared the rest of my trip with. 10.01.2022 1950s Leghorn straw hats. Swipe left to see detail. The outside shaggy bits are the untrimmed strands of wheat the hat was woven from; the last image is the inside of the straw. These hats are known as Leghorn straws, the anglicised version of Livorno in Italy, where they were originally woven. Hats are Aud$75. each. Please DM if interested.

08.01.2022 No, the first picture is not in Morocco or in some far away oasis, but in Centennial Park, Sydney. As are the other pictures. Centennial Park has been very much my go to place, between my home and my studio. Its a wonderful park, always a balm for the soul. @ Sydney, Australia

08.01.2022 If you are going anywhere nearby, make sure to visit @pepofarms . We stopped by and were given a very interesting talk and tasting of the produce. Their pumpkin seed range ( the only pumpkin seeds Australian grown and sold here) is something else. Totally addictive. We also got to sample a range of fantastic locally- produced oils. I couldn’t squeeze more into my luggage, but will be looking out for their products in Sydney. It’s wonderful to find such a range of locally grown goods.

08.01.2022 3 more days, and Paddington Markets re-opens! Saturday, September 26, 10-4.Please come and support artisans, designers, food producers, florists and hat makers. When the pandemic hit, all my shows, fairs, events and markets closed down. I love markets. They are the soul of a place, and the cornerstone of commerce and community. I started my hat stall at Paddington Markets on April 6, 1986. The markets have changed over the years, but meeting my customers and catching up with other stallholders is something I miss. We need you. Please come and say hello @paddingtonmarkets #paddingtonmarkets #supportlocalbusiness #buylocal

Anyway, Id rather drink it!)The third hat is Natural ( undyed), and last is Sand. If you like Sand, order Champagne or Cafe online, but in the notes, stipulate that you like the Sand colour. As all my hats are dyed by hand here in Sydney, no two dye batches are the same. If you place an order online, we are always happy to send photographs of your choice/wish list.

19.09.2021 Endless ‘oooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ at Sydney’s Botanical Gardens which have never looked more lush and beautiful. It’s as if the place is on beauty steroids! If you have the chance to visit, be sure to venture into The Calyx where 22,000 plants have been exhibited to mirror or mimic seaweeds and kelp forests.

12.09.2021 These pictures were of the area between Ellenborough Falls, the gorgeous Killabakh Nature Reserve, and the rainforest and bat colony near the Manning River on the way out of Wingham.

03.09.2021 More garden pictures. The last few days have been quite wet, and it has been magical, living in a cloud. It is beautiful here, no matter the weather.

27.08.2021 A couple of days ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Wingham Museum. What a treat! Wingham is a historical town in NSW which made its money initially from the timber industry. The local museum was filled with a treasure trove of historical items donated by descendants of the settlers- we spent hours ogling at a huge variety of assorted things. My favourites were the flea catcher in the first picture, draws of birds eggs ( I’m a sucker for cabinets of curiosities), austere Victorian portraits, the exhibitions of lacework, and the museum’s angle at explaining some of the Aboriginal history and of the women who were pioneers in various fields. I think Wingham’s museum is an exceptional example of local historical artifacts- if you should be in this part of the world, definitely pay it a visit! #manningriver #winghammuseum

19.08.2021 Bush food and wildlife. The alien- looking pink things in the first picture are the fruit of pig face. They were eaten to deter scurvy and I think they taste a little like feijoas. I wonder if they can be made into jam? The other pictures are of a python and a goanna.both had beautiful markings/ patterns; there are lots of snakes and lizards around.
