23.01.2022 Hi everyone, I'm so happy to let everyone know, that my clinic is up and going and mobile! I am offering Art therapy and counselling across NSW Northern rivers and QLD Gold Coast... There are many benefits of counselling using Art Therapy. Other than the art process and creation being very therapeutic itself, it is also used as a mediator in the therapy process, allowing inner materials and issues to rise and be expressed in a non threatening, less confronting way. The client's art work and the process of the creation opens a door for discussion and investigation of the product. But even in times when words and discussion is too hard for the client, the actual process of the art work within a session is very supportive, and still allows an outlet to emotions that might be hard, scary and threatening otherwise. Also quite useful for clients who are not verbal, or limited in their ability to express verbally, and with kids who sometimes struggle to put their pain an frustration into words or to describe it. Art therapy is one of other types of therapy that falls under the definition of Expressive therapies. Other types are music therapy, dance/movement therapy, bibliotherapy/storytelling and psychodrama. My specialty is Art therapy and storytelling (which goes hand in hand with the art).
