24.01.2022 Practising our long distance shooting in the rain

22.01.2022 #tb to last week where we shot whistlers at 75 m! The whistling arrow originated from Central Asian nomads and was aptly dubbed by the Chinese as the shrieking arrow. Ancient manuscripts reveal that the Chinese military divided their nights into four divisions and marked each by shooting whistling arrows from one sentry to another to prove their alertness. In battle, the Japanese would shoot hundreds of these arrows as a form of psychological warfare into enemy fronts. Whistlers found their way into Ottoman traditions with the depiction of Sultan Selim holding a whistling arrow, used as a messenger, which the Turks called Çavu

15.01.2022 '"Verily, the believers are like a structure, each part strengthening the other [Al-Bukhari]. In the intermediate class, we reflect on each other in both skill and spirit by working together in pairs or small groups in what we call "buddy classes." Bonding together, in the fellowship of the bow.

We can't wait to see more progress in the coming weeks! @ Maydaan Archery Club Australia

13.01.2022 Treat the bow as an extension of yourself, so much that the wood at it's base becomes your bone, the horn at it's belly becomes your muscle, the sinew backing it becomes your nerves and arteries, and the glue holding it together becomes like the blood flowing through your veins.

13.01.2022 This Sunday Maydaan will be resuming beginners classes! If you're attending, remember social distancing rules, including avoiding shaking hands and close contact. Please be aware that this month's beginner's course is booked out and spots for August are filling up fast!!! If interested please book ASAP for next month's beginners course. Looking forward to seeing all our regulars and newcomers this sunday.

06.01.2022 The only difference between a close target and a far target is the raising of your bow

05.01.2022 The arrow cannot fly without a bow, just as a student cannot learn without a teacher

04.01.2022 On Sunday, our new beginners course students were introduced to the ancient art of Ottoman archery by ustadh Ahmed, where our students began their journey with "kepaze" and learning about the fundamental concepts and pillars of archery. They fired their first arrows and as a bonus felt the challenge of conditioning their thumbs We also made sure to adapt our classes to #covid safety and socially distanced all our students!
