24.01.2022 Hi Marlins, for those children wanting to get ready before the Marlins season commences, Rachel has written the below and invites you to book into the the Holiday Intensive Program! Read on......... Summer is coming and we’re excited to be joining the Mayfield Marlins community, offering Learn to Swim, Stroke Correction and Squad classes right here at the school pool. To get things started, we’re conducting a Holiday Intensive for Learn to Swim and Squad Boot Camp during th...e second week of the holidays (28th Sep 2nd Oct). For details of our class levels and to register for the Holiday Intensive, please click on this link https://mayfieldholidayintensiveandbootcampsep2020.eventbri or you can call Rachel on 0401440359 to find out more. Holiday Intensives are a wonderful way for children to immerse in lessons if they are new to swimming, returning to swimming after a break or to build fitness ahead of the summer season. They also provide a good opportunity for families who are unable to commit to weekly lessons throughout the term but are looking for some formal instruction to assist their child’s swimming competency and enjoyment. If you’re already committed that week and would like to enrol for term 4 classes, please email Rachel at [email protected] or call to register your interest. We are looking to run classes after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and potentially before school on Monday and Thursday mornings. There will be updates posted to our Facebook page and we encourage you to go on and like this to keep up to date with the latest details as they unfold, particularly during the school holidays. We look forward to meeting you all and working with the children in the pool at Mayfield State School this Summer. 17.01.2022 Dear Marlins, I’m writing to you on behalf of the Exec to let you know that a difficult decision has been finally made last night to postpone the commencement of the season until January next year. After careful and researched consideration of the COVID compliance requirements of our Pool grounds and the running of a successful Club night, a unanimous decision was made that we cannot guarantee compliance with the current infrastructure and member numbers nor risk the liabili...ty it carries for non-compliance. As always, the safety and well-being of our members and the wider community is foremost in our planning. The current Exec will be working throughout Term 4 with the assistance of the School, P&C, Government bodies and fellow amateur swimming clubs to find a way to safely recommence in Term 1 2021. We welcome you to make contact with our new swimming coach and swimming teacher Mrs Rachel Dunstan for the upcoming school holidays intensive program and before/after school swimming lessons. Rachel can be contacted directly on M/ 0401 440 359 or via www.baysideswimschool.com.au A very disappointed team however be reassured we will collectively find solutions to get back in the water. #notgivingup #wewillkickcovid Matthew Hodson Chairman Mayfield Marlins Swimming Club

All swimmers over the age of 12 are eligible for nomination. Please submit nominations by email to [email protected] and include your response to these three questions:... 1. Why would you like a leadership role in the Club? 2. What would your Club initiative be for the 2020/2021 season? Nominations close 7:00pm Wednesday 18th November and Captains will be announced on Club Night - Friday 20th November.

17.01.2022 Fellow Marlins, our home lives have seen "screen time" blow out over the past 7 weeks, and exercise from out of school sport dramatically decrease. If your looking for strategies to help your family find balance like we have, I can recommend this well written and thought provoking article. Warm regards, Matthew. H

17.01.2022 Hi Marlins, sorry we had to call tonight early due to the risk of that storm.. however great to see everyone enjoying another club night. Congratulations to the receivers of this weeks awards and can’t wait to see the club photo! Have a lovely weekend all! Matthew

17.01.2022 COVID-19 update Dear Marlins, Over the past week I've been monitoring updates from many sources including community sports groups, QLD ED, Catholic Ed, Swimming Qld and Government agencies as well as attending last nights Mayfield P&C meeting, seeking as much info as I can on the unfolding COVID-19 situation and shared this with the committee today. ... The latest guidance and strategy from Federal and State Governments is to use isolation strategies, avoiding the gathering of people for non-vital events to extend the time of community transmission of the virus to reduce the peak demand on our health infrastructure. Factoring these recommendations and numerous other considerations including advised hygiene practices during Club nights, the Marlins are simply not in a position nor equipped to ensure the wellbeing of our members let alone the ability to purchase the items needed in bulk. In light of numerous consultations and considerations, it is with a heavy heart that the Marlins season will end prematurely, this also includes the Clubs Championships effective immediately. It's certainly not the way I nor the committee wanted to see such a wonderful season end and I really feel for our children. In relation to the AGM and appointment of next seasons committee, it is now paramount that I ask each and every one of you to consider these roles as the next step will be to organise the best way to run our AGM albeit, electronically. At this point in time our Trophy Night celebration in May, is to remain on the table (fingers crossed) and I’m staying in touch with the venue weekly. We also have a number of wonderful alternative ideas up our sleeve to acknowledge our Children’s inspiring efforts and achievements throughout the season at this celebration so stay posted. Thank you so much for making this season amazing and thank you for all your support. In the meantime, please look after each other, be kind, be considerate and share that Marlins spirit with your community - if we ever needed friends/family and courage, this is now the time. Please feel free to contact me personally on M/ 0408 07 2550 or via Marlins Facebook or via email at [email protected] Yours in swimming, Matthew Hodson President Mayfield Marlins Swimming Club

04.01.2022 Dear Marlins, For over 40 years the Mayfield Marlins have provided our local families a community-based Swimming club that welcomes school-aged children of all abilities. This upcoming season may well be a very different season from previous ones, with the impact of COVID-19.... I’m wring to re-assure you and your children, that behind the scenes our Club is very conscious of the need to protect the health and safety of our swimmers, families and the community as a whole. The Exec committee has started work and held our first meeting with the School’s new Principal Mr Andrew Male in assisting us to navigate the current regulations surrounding sport and developing our COVID-safe plan. We are conscious of trying to minimise disruption to our "status"quo and how COVID may shape our Club nights and Carnivals. As we work through this, I’ll keep regular updates posted through the School Enewsletter and on the Mayfield Marlins Facebook. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact myself or fellow committee members directly if you have any questions about the upcoming season. Yours in swimming, Matthew Hodson President Mayfield Marlins Swimming Club

03.01.2022 Dear Marlin families and Marlin community, I wanted to give you a quick update on the Clubs approach to the COVID-19 situation. The Marlins sit under the umbrella of the Mayfield State School P&C and the Club will be guided and comply by Mayfield State School directives and as instructed by Education Queensland and Governing bodies. At this stage, unless directed to cancel by these authorities, we are proceeding with our final Club night next week and the AGM, Club Championsh...ips and Trophy Night. I recognise and acknowledge that our Clubs social events are important to our own wellbeing as they provide an opportunity to talk with friends and let our children enjoy normality in these interesting weeks that are unfolding. However, I want to reassure you that the health of our swimmers, families and the community is of course our priority balanced with common sense. To protect yourself and others from infection, it is always important to practice good hand and respiratory hygiene including: cleaning hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs (Queensland Health says hand washing is the most effective way to keep your hands clean, and to only use hand sanitiser if you cannot wash your hands) before and after training covering your nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing avoiding contact with anyone whether they show symptoms or not (eg. handshakes, hugging, kissing, taking selfies) If you or your child develops flu-like symptoms, please: stay at home avoid close contact with others such as touching, kissing or hugging, or any mass gatherings, especially those involving other children see a doctor or contact 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) immediately seek medical advice if your child has other underlying medical conditions call ahead to the medical centre or doctor’s surgery. I will keep you informed of any changes that may occur next week via direct email and the Marlins Facebook page. Respectfully, Matthew Hodson President Mayfield Marlins Swimming Club

03.01.2022 Hello Marlins, I excitedly share the news that we have been working through the seasons points, they are now tallied, cross checked and end of season trophies are now being made..... Stay tuned for the next Marlin Fairy update. :)

03.01.2022 The Australian Institute of Sport is feverishly (no pun intended) assisting the Federal Government and State Governments in re introducing community and professional sport. The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on our local volunteer sporting communities, leading to significant restrictions on all sectors of society and sports well-being. All sport organisations and participants including the Marlins will be faced with complex decisions regarding resumption of t...raining and Club nights in the future. I and the Exec are doing our best to stay abreast of updates in the likely event that when we re-commence in mid October our Club is abiding by best practices for the on going safety of our members. Regards Matthew and the team.

02.01.2022 Sienna and Zac have delivered the Marlins breakfast cereal donations to a very grateful Foodbank team member - Great initiative Sienna and thankyou Marlins for being so generous to those in need. #proudtobeamarlin

01.01.2022 Hi Marlins, please find below an update from Mr Andrew Male, new Principle of Mayfield State School. For members that don't attend Mayfield School there are no changes other than the introduction of a new coaching school that will continue to offer squad/training for all children of the community and a closer working relationship with the Club. Any questions, please email me at [email protected] SWIMMING AT MAYFIELD TERM 4... After investigating swimming lessons for PE in term 4 there have been a few changes that have needed to be made to follow Education Queensland guidelines and policies when teaching swimming. Firstly, all swimming lessons and carnivals in state schools are required to have a staff member who has a Pool Lifeguard qualification in swimming instruction overseeing the program. Mayfield State School does not currently have one. This has resulted in the school needing to hire an outside provider to support Mr Johnson in swimming lessons. This will incur a small cost for parents. The school is looking into government grants to ensure this is as low as possible. I have taken this opportunity to review the model of service we want to provide the community for in-school swimming, squad, swim training and club swimming. The holistic community approach that I am looking to implement did not fit with what Alex Glasson was able to provide. She has also needed to focus on other areas in her life and has decided to pass on her responsibilities as swim coach. I thank her for all she has provided in her time with Mayfield Swim School and her work in developing swimming skills within our young people in the community. I have worked with the Mayfield Marlins to find the right swim instructor who will also be able to support with squad and swim training before and after school at our pool. Ideally this person will also work closely with the Mayfield Marlins swim club so there is a clear flow of developing swimmers in school with the option of joining the school’s swim club if they desire. Having this connection between school and club swimming is designed to promote and enhance our community connections. Rachel Dunstan will help deliver swim lessons in the newly named Mayfield Community Swim School. She is coowner of Bayside Swim School and has extensive experience working with other schools in the local area using a community focussed model of swimming.
