24.01.2022 Parents and Players, As of 8th June, training will resume for all Maylands Basketball teams (Coaches Needed*). Our booking at The Rise takes effect from the Monday 8th June. As long as you registered your player before this all happened, we still have your information, dont panic, please be patient.... If you have recently been in touch, again, we have your information. If your child now wants to play basketball, awesome! Can I request you hold off contacting us for the next three days so we can get our current teams out training. We will then have a better idea where your child could fit in. Hope you understand. Teams that were scheduled to train earlier in the week will be notified earlier. Games are not scheduled to start until next school term. Again, I cant stress this enough, we will be doing our best to get our teams out there ASAP. As a community youd be best served picking up any dropped balls, rather than throwing all of yours in at once. I hope that makes sense. * We really could use a couple of extra Coaches and we have some awesome news forth coming which will support any new and present Coaches. Ill keep you updated throughout the weekend of our progress. Appreciate your patience and understanding.

24.01.2022 We have had lots of questions around game times this week. All games are scheduled by East Perth Eagles who do an amazing job with so many teams. Games can be played at the RISE, Herb Graham or. Morley Rec between 8am and 5pm on Saturday’s.... Please check the game day ap for your child’s playing times each week. This is best done on a Thursday.

23.01.2022 ## ANOUNCEMENT STATE CHAMPS COMP ## The upcoming State Champs Competition will have a large effect on a number of teams due to loss of players. Unfortunately, East Perth are not accepting any requests for a bye and have encouraged teams to source players from younger divisions. Via the comments, Coaches are encouraged to either put their hands up and say I need a couple of players, or I have a couple of players. I'm sure conversations will start from there.... Competition Dates 28/29 November 2020 Under 13 and Under 15 Boys (Div 2 & 3) 4/5/6 December 2020 Girls Weekend U 11, U 13, U 15, U 17, U 19 (Div 2 & 3) 11/12/13 December 2020 U 11, U 17, U 19 Boys (Div 2 & 3) 18/19/20 December 2020 State Titles- All Championship matches across all age groups If you cannot field a team, could either the Coach or Team Manager please let the Club know via email. 21.01.2022 As most teams have trained for a week or two, it is time to get suited up. Could the Team Manager please email the club with team numbers and a list of jersey sizes. If players need a pair of club subsidised shorts ($10), please include the number and sizes needed. Could we please have the emails in by Monday 6th, so we have time to organise and have them ready for the first game. If your team doesnt have a Manager, please feel free to volunteer and let your Coach know. Eve...ry team needs a Manager. Any questions, email them to [email protected] Thanks

21.01.2022 Hi, Please feel free to share the following. It is currently a tough time for many in our community. In partnership with Vinnies WA Emergency Assistance program the City of Bayswater will be providing assistance in, packing and distributing food hampers to residents accessing Vinnies Emergency Assistance program. If you or someone you know needs assistance accessing food call Vinnies on 1300 794 054, weekdays 9am-1pm. www.vinnieswa.org.au... Thanks Yorkie (Coach Andrew)

20.01.2022 A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away Obi-Wan Kenobi declared no child who plays basketball in Summer should move to the dark side Winter sports. (Netball, Rugby, Soccer to name a few) If this is the case please let the club know and may the force be with you.

20.01.2022 No excuses, get out there and practice before the season starts. New videos three times a week! Be safe everyone.

19.01.2022 ** IMPORTANT UPDATE ** We have received an update for the City of Bayswater today, which we appreciate, so we are passing it on. Please read below.... "We are being guided by the Minister of Sport and Recreation messaging that was released last Friday which states the following: * In relation to sporting activity, it is a requirement that all sport and training is non-contact only. * Consider staggering starting times for training sessions to avoid congestion. * Adopt a get in, train, get out philosophy. * Discourage spectators unless required (ie parent or carer). Spectators are to be included in the 20 person count. Clubs should regularly communicate their expectations for parent/carers attending and watching training. * The use of shared equipment should be minimised. * When training or playing non-contact sport, you can share a football, tennis ball, shuttle cock, sailing rope or netball, but they must be cleaned in between training sessions. Additional to this: * All Coaches must provide a training plan for us to review prior to the booking to ensure the drills are compliant and social distancing is possible; * Absolutely no scrimmage or game play. * The grandstand has been marked with social distancing markings to ensure the seating is compliant; * We will be completing spot checks on compliance throughout the booking; * Any breeches or deviations from the training plan will result in the club being asked to leave and may result in no further bookings being permitted for the offending club." Thanks.

19.01.2022 WE NEED FEMALE BASKETBALLERS!!! 2 for U14 girls and 2 for U18 Girls Lets not leave these girls short of players please.... Do you know anyone who wants to play? If so, please contact the club. Thanks. * Liz Cabbage is for inspiration

19.01.2022 Maylands Basketball Club I understand that everybody is keen to get back to basketball ASAP, but we are still a while a way yet. Please be patient and make sure you get notifications from our Facebook page as any announcements will be posted here. This is the latest from East Perth Basketball Association.... "With the announcement today of easing of restrictions further effective 6th June, we are working with our venues, as we have been for the last few months, on how this will effect East Perth. Currently schools have advised that they will not hire to outside organisations, or look at it, until Term 3. Once venues, Morley; Herb Graham and The Rise, have a chance to look at what the new restrictions mean for them, we will not be able to plan to return. We are also waiting on what guidelines will be issued by BWA and what protocols we have to follow. Appreciate your patience and understanding with this. Thanks and take care" Please be patient and well be in communication when a schedule has been confirmed. Thanks. MMBC

17.01.2022 Please find below information regarding the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). East Perth supports the recommendations from the Government of Western Australia Department of Health. As such, parents of children are asked NOT to send their children to basketball activities if the child has returned from mainland China or Hong Kong within 14 days. Adults are asked to also not attend basketball activities if they have returned from mainland China or Hong Kong in this timeframe. Even... if no symptoms are present, it is advised that people do not attend basketball activities including games and training until the 14 day period has passed. Although the risk is very low, this is a precautionary approach to ensure the safest possible environment. If you or your child has been informed by Public Health authorities that you/they are a close contact of a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), you should contact your local public health unit to get information. If your child has a recent travel history to mainland China and develops symptoms, you should contact their primary care provider. Further information, including symptoms, may be found in the attached document. This information is subject to change. For more information, or to stay up to date, please visit the WA Department of Health homepage at https://healthywa.wa.gov.au or call the WA Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 200 243.

16.01.2022 All domestic games will be doing manual scoresheets again this weekend. EP Is hoping to switch over to electronic Courtside in the next few weeks. Just a reminder that individual stats are not entered if manual scoresheets are completed. This is an impossible tasks for 137 teams x by 10 players per team.

13.01.2022 Games are still on tomorrow so dont panic. The only Maylands team that can draw a 500 plus crowd is the Under 14-1 Jets. We have reassured our fans things will be back to normal real soon.

13.01.2022 Hope you all survived the school holidays! Training starts again next week. Please check the game day app for game times.

12.01.2022 Easter Message All we really need is love, but a little bit of chocolate and a bouncing basketball now and then doesnt hurt either.

10.01.2022 Update As Of 21st May 2020

10.01.2022 To all of our Eagle Community, I can only hope you are all travelling safe and well during this challenging time. Theres been a level of ease with social distancing and a base level of communication regarding a return to basketball. This process requires a robust, engaged and thought through process before a return to our great game, which we have as an association, engaged our state based body BWA. Theres continued conversation between the States and Basketball Australia ...to land on a position with World Health guidelines to enable a restoration of basketball at all levels. Whilst early days we as East Perth will be guided as to whats best for the safety and wellbeing of our players, families and supporters. I look forward to communicating to everyone the progress as this comes to hand, but as a management group will not be entertaining a return to business as usual without proper guidance, consideration and most of all making the re-entry to our great sport of East Perth Basketball safe for everyone involved. Regards and stay safe Tim Symons President East Perth Basketball

09.01.2022 Maylands is lucky to have some very experienced domestic and WABL coaches. Any of us are happy to provide support and no harm in having a chat to Reg about it. P.s Yorkie (Coach Andrew) is happy to debrief with a wine or beer each week. He may even teach you to swear in Swahili.

09.01.2022 East Perth will release the domestic fixtures in the next month or so. The Magic committee is working hard to ensure it can accommodate as many player requests as possible for teams and training for the next season. However due to the size of our club and limited COVID 19 court space this is not always possible. ... If you have any concerns please direct them to your childs coach or email the club.

07.01.2022 Players and Parents, Please find the fixtures for the remaining games for the current Winter Season 2020. Good luck!

07.01.2022 R U OK Day reminds us of the importance to increase awareness of not only the impact of looking after our own mental health but also checking in on those around us. It only takes a moment to check in on your team mate, coach, referee, friend, work colleague, family member or neighbour and ask R U OK? The impact of 3 small words combined with the validation of how someone is feeling, by genuinely listening to their response could be the most powerful action you take in suppor...ting someone you know who may be struggling. Remember mental health can effect anyone at anytime. It may be difficult at first but talking can help. To the Magic family reading this R U OK?

05.01.2022 ** Important Update ** Good morning, Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus, the Summer Season has been suspended. No further games (including U10s) will be played this season. At this stage, EP expect the Winter Season to begin as normal, but updates will be made as necessary.... Also, we have had to cancel the End-of-Season Windup for our Club. Individual teams can organise their own end-of-season celebrations where the coaches can present their trophies. Funds that were to be allocated to the Windup will be carried over to next season and used either for uniforms or next seasons Windup. Thanks, Heather President MMBC

05.01.2022 Phase Two of our roadmap back to basketball starts today. If Coachs want to start getting their teams out on a court, can I suggest an outdoor court for now. The Rise is only allowed to take casual bookings for now and they are limited to a MAX 20 people across both courts. Maylands Basketball Club is unable to book courts for the whole club, therefore until Phase Three comes into effect, each team, if they choose, can make their own training arrangements. ... We will update you as information comes to hand. Thanks.

05.01.2022 The Magic is still looking for 3-4 people to help the committee out. Its only a few hours a season. To be honest we are at the stage if we cant find the support teams will be limited for the Winter season. (If required chokkies or wine will be used as a bribe.)

03.01.2022 No games this Saturday enjoy the extra sleep and have a good long weekend.

03.01.2022 This one is for all our young women that play at Maylands. Yes we play like girls but boys try and keep up

03.01.2022 Summer 2019 Club Awards Seeing as we didnt get to end our Summer Season in style, we would like to announce the winners of our Club Awards and Club MVP Award. Club MVP Award... Kayla Friend Kayla always gives 100% effort from the moment she steps on court. She can lift the whole team with her dedication to fighting for the ball, and her full-court drives are spectacular to watch. Whether in defence, or offence, she plays a tough game, and is always hard for the other team to shut down. She has also topped the scoring for the U14 girls division. Club Fair Play Award Nick Winterbourn For showing consistent team-focussed play. Nick is always the biggest assist player on the team, and is willing to put himself on the line to provide excellent defensive play against boys who are usually bigger than him. His support to the other players in his team is exemplary, and he never gives up. Nick displays constant heads up basketball (ie playmaker and assists) but offers a heads down attitude every single week. He may not be a scoring machine, but he brings his heart and soul visibly every game and still takes on guys bigger than him (which is just about everyone!). CONGRATULATIONS To Both Players for an AWESOME Season!!
