24.01.2022 Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Blacktown City Diwali Lights Competition!

23.01.2022 Blacktown City Council’s Civic Maintenance team has worked with Blacktown Arts over 10 years to develop creative ways to deter graffiti. The newly installed Riverstone murals take us on a journey through the areas recent history. Well done to everyone involved!

23.01.2022 It’s been a whole 5 years since Blacktown City Council launched its Aqua Learn to Swim program and introduced Pip the Penguin as our mascot! Since the program launched in October 2015, Aqua Learn to Swim has built a strong foundation of students which has grown every year. Around 8,000 students each year learn to be water safe and confident swimmers in a fun, educational and rewarding environment.... To celebrate Pip’s 5th birthday, students from the program were invited to enter the Aqua colouring-in competition. A winner was chosen from each of our 5 venues with the winners and their families invited along to Pip’s birthday celebration - complete with balloons, birthday cake and, of course, presents! I was lucky enough to be invited as Pip’s very special guest. Congratulations to our 5 very talented winners - Jeremy Alphonse, Aria Shah, Danielle Panganiban, Rafin Fazal, and Claire Gibson. What a wonderful milestone to be celebrating with our students and their families. Thank you to everyone in our Aqua Learn to Swim family.

Amid what has been a tumultuous and often difficult year, what better way to spread some joy than to take part in our Christmas Light Competition? It always makes me smile to see our great City lit up and to witness the spirit of community in action.... There is something about Christmas lights that makes us stop and really think about the significance of the festive season, and the importance of family and friends. I can’t wait to see the beautiful and festive displays around Blacktown City this year. Nominations for the competition close at 5 pm on Tuesday, 1 December. For more information, or to nominate, visit: blacktown.nsw.gov.au/christmaslights

13.01.2022 It was my pleasure to catch up with our City’s Australia Day Ambassador at the Riverstone Skatepark. Amar is the only Muslim woman professional skateboarder in Australia and is on track to represent Australia at the Tokyo Olympics.... She is also a scholarship student at Sydney University studying Liberal Arts and Science. Amar took time out from her busy schedule to have a chat and check out the Riverstone Skatepark. 12.01.2022 State budget news Doonside Station finally gets $2 million funding toward a lift to allow the disabled, elderly and parents with prams easy access to the platform! This is an important moment - a big shout out to John Robertson, Ed Husic MP, and Stephen Bali MP but especially to the Doonside community. What now? We need to keep up the pressure, so that further budgets carry the money needed to get the project built.... Thanks also to the Blacktown Advocate who helped tell this story of a fight for a badly needed community service.

11.01.2022 Did you know that the park at the corner of Beacon Drive and Arilla Close in Schofields is now home to a new playground? I had the pleasure of visiting the park recently with Councillor Moninder Singh to see the equipment being put to the test by some very excited young residents. The purpose-built playground features a junior play hut, a multi-play unit with a slide, swings of all shapes and sizes, a trampoline, a spinner, and a springer.... As we head into the summer holidays, I hope families can have a bit of fun exploring the nearly 800 parks and reserves in Blacktown City, including this wonderful new playground in Schofields.
