25.01.2022 It was wonderful to be invited to attend today's Community Reception in Jandakot with the Premier, State Cabinet Ministers, other local Mayors and community groups. This was a good opportunity to represent the City of Gosnells and advocate for City projects such as the development of Hester Park for which I was able to ask the Planning Minister a question about.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Canning Vale PROBUS members on their 8th anniversary of membership. It was a pleasure to meet President, Elizabeth Fox, IPP, Charles O'Donnell and many other members at today's celebratory morning tea. It's really terrific that these retired and semi-retired members stay connected and engaged in the community through the many activities organised and volunteer work.

22.01.2022 Common Goal will soon be expanding into the City of Gosnells (Southern River). Common Goal was first launched in 2016 and is open to all young people aged 8-18 years old from a variety of cultural backgrounds. After the launch of Common Goal Lynwood, a soccer match between Common Goal and WA Police kicked off. Congratulations to all involved with the program - Football West, Western Australia Police Force, the Edmund Rice Centre WA and many other groups. Best wishes for th...e continued success of the Common Goal initiative as it is rolled out into more Perth communities. Thank you to Principal, Dr Rhaman, and staff at Langford Islamic College for hosting the launch.

22.01.2022 Congratulations to all the winners at the Gosnells Bowling Club 'Club Trophy Presentation and Season Windup'. The trophies were amazing and what a fabulous night it was. Lots of fun and friendship to be had at this club.

21.01.2022 GOSNELLS TOWN SQUARE Behind the fence, next to the Agonis building, big changes are happening. A vibrant meeting place that better connects to Albany Hwy is being created. Luckily, not created by myself and my crew of Peter Abetz for City of Gosnells Council, Adam Hort - City of Gosnells Councillor, Councillor Aaron Adams - City of Gosnells!! There will be new lawn and a 'fogging' feature with lights and sound. New planter boxes along with energy efficient lighting and brig...htly coloured furniture, public art and landscaping are also going in. Locally sourced granite boulders from the Holcim quarry are being used, too. Completion is due early next year. More details about this project are available at: https://yoursay.gosnells.wa.gov.au/gosnells-town-centre-rev

21.01.2022 It was an honour to be presented with the group scarf and be welcomed as an honorary Southern River Scout at the Remembrance Day ceremony with the Southern River Scout Family Group.

20.01.2022 TURNING OF THE SOD - HESTER PARK It was an election promise from Bill Johnston MLA, Member for Cannington to develop a BMX pump track and a half basketball court, in conjunction with the City of Gosnells, at Hester Park in Langford. The State government and the City of Gosnells each contributed $250,000 for this joint project. It was great to be a part of the turning of the sod to get the project underway.... Stay tuned for more proposed development from the City for Hester Park that will benefit residents. Deputy Mayor Peter Abetz for City of Gosnells Council Councillor Aaron Adams - City of Gosnells Cr Julie Brown

19.01.2022 Congratulations to the two students from Southern River College whose artworks were among the winning entries in the City's 'Home Is Where the Art Is' competition. During the isolation period earlier this year to help prevent the spread of Covid-19, the City called on local artists to submit online entries to showcase our community. I was thrilled to announce Umair Ahmad as the Overall Winner for his work titled 'Sutherlands Park'. I believe this painting was inspired by ...a beautiful scene that Umair noticed while riding through Sutherlands Park on his way home from school. Kobi Philbin won the High School category with his artwork that represents the Southern River which runs through the City of Gosnells. The painting reflects Kobi's Indigenous heritage, with the colours depicting the changing land uses in this area, and the six circles representing different local communities. The Southern River College and wider community should be very proud of what is being achieved at this school and I look forward to seeing students participate in future arts-related programs. Again, congratulations Umair and Kobi.

18.01.2022 Come on down to Wilkinson Homestead for your ten free native plants until 12 noon today.

17.01.2022 Bushcare's Big Day Out is a national day of community participation that focusses on the restoration and care of local bushland. This morning, many volunteers, together with Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, saw over 3,000 native seedlings planted at Mills Park, Beckenham. It was great to take part in this environmental project. Thanks Councillor Aaron Adams - City of Gosnells for also being involved in the planting.

16.01.2022 Glyndebourne Park is officially open! Thank you to the many locals who came down and enjoyed the sausage sizzle and chat today.

16.01.2022 It was a pleasure to officially open the Annual Spring Exhibition today at Liddelow Homestead Arts & Crafts Club Inc. Councillor Carey-Ann Brett - City of Gosnells and I enjoyed seeing the magnificent and very talented exhibits of painting, wood turning, mosaics and pottery. My wife, Jenny, loved the patchwork quilts on display. Many thanks to President, Bryan Miller and committee members for your hospitality. Such beautiful Moreton Bay Fig trees on the grounds that represent the homestead logo.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Rosa and staff at Casa del' Amici in Canning Vale for making it into the top 10 Italian restaurants in Perth! We had a fabulous meal and great service, as usual, as I celebrated my birthday recently. Many thanks to Ken Wyatt AM MP, friends, family, Councillors and staff at the City for their kind wishes on the day.

15.01.2022 It was great to meet members of the Beckenham - Kenwick Community Hub at the community catch up. We talked about issues in the area and just enjoyed chattting over a drink and nibbles. Thanks to the Hub's admins for organising the event - Terresa, Chelsea and Kristie. Great to enjoy the catch up with fellow councillors - Councillor Carey-Ann Brett - City of Gosnells, Councillor Aaron Adams - City of Gosnells, and Adam Hort - City of Gosnells Councillor.

14.01.2022 At Tuesday's Council meeting (25/8/20) the tender for the construction of Thornlie Sports & Community Hub building was passed. This exciting development on Thornlie Avenue will be a tremendous boost for local people who love lawn bowls, tennis and also enjoy a community facility. What is also excellent news is that the successful tender is within budget. Construction will commence shortly following a number of years in the planning. A big thank you to the Federal Governmen...t and Lotterywest for their grant funding. The link, below, gives a detailed update of this project: https://yoursay.gosnells.wa.gov.au/thornlie-bowls-and-tenni Thornlie Tennis Club Thornlie Bowling Club Inc.

14.01.2022 I wish to ensure all people are fully informed about our Annual Civic Dinner. We have been doing this for our community leaders and community groups for the past 47 years and it is a Council policy and has been budgeted for at $20,000 each year. The purpose of the Civic Dinner is to not only thank and acknowledge our community leaders and those that have won Australia Day awards, but to also invite elected political leaders. We do this so that your councillors can advocate ...on your behalf for major City projects to happen. Without this advocacy many projects would not have happened. I can assure you our snouts are not in the trough and never have been. I am on the record as being happy to pay my own way. I cancelled the event because of COVID-19 as we simply could not manage such an event due to severe restrictions of health issues. The Civic Dinner this year was to be a modest event with no bells and whistles whatsoever, and hence would be a lot cheaper. I did explain this in detail at the time of my original email to Councillors. In fact, it is certainly not a feast as all Councillors would have been working hard on behalf of ratepayers to promote our City, as has happened in previous years. At the City we are very mindful of our community needs particularly in these uncertain times and will continue to strive to do all that we can to support our community. Advocating for our needs is still a high priority and all councillors I know do what they can to support projects and development. I hope we can continue to find other ways to promote and thank our wonderful people for all the good work that they do.

13.01.2022 This week Council approved the business plan for the Southern River Business Park. The proposed Business Park has been located and designed in accordance with an approved structure plan which includes the following: * Increase the level of employment self-sufficiency and self-containment within Southern River... * Ensure the orderly and proper subdivision of all lots within the structure plan area whilst optimising the development potential of the site * Provide passive public open space to act as a buffer for the protection and conservation of wetlands and associated flora and fauna We expect a total return on investment of $8.4m. This is a great business initiative and superb employment opportunity for local people as per the original feasibility model by Collier International. 12.01.2022 Looking forward to taking Cooper to Harmony Fields during the evening now that lights are being installed.

12.01.2022 It was a beautiful, sunny day here at Wilkinson Homestead for the "Plants For Locals" event. With 10,000 free native seedlings for our residents there certainly was strong demand for the seedlings. Funding was available from the Federal Government's Communities Environmental Program and it was great to see Matt Keogh MP here. Good to also see Deputy Mayor, Peter Abetz for City of Gosnells Council. Sincere thanks to the Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group and City of Gosnells sta...ff and volunteers for managing this event. Thanks also the the Darling Range Wildlife Shelter WA for running the sausage sizzle. There was plenty of environmental information available on the day from SERCUL, Friends of Mary Carroll Wetland and others as well as advice on how to care for the seedlings.

11.01.2022 The amazing City of Gosnells staff have created an outstanding program with the Home But Not Alone events during the COVID 19 restrictions. Congratulations on reaching the finals of the Australian Event Awards 2020. Myself, my family, friends and the community have enjoyed and appreciated being a part of such an wonderful program. Best wishes for further success in the Awards.

11.01.2022 At last night's Council meeting a decision was made on the tender for the Gosnells Town Square Redevelopment project located on Albany Hwy, next to the Agonis building. Finally, the work can now start! The almost $1m revitalised town square will be a more interactive space and include a public seating, a water misting feature, bicycle racks and a lawn area. In addition, the vacant land next door will be turned into a car park with access to the town square. This redevelopment will beautify, revitalise and open up the town square to the community which I am sure will be enjoyed by all! The project is long overdue and will be an exciting step in putting our City on the map.

10.01.2022 Ellis Brook Valley Reserve in Martin is a sight to behold, with so much flora and fauna on show. I enjoy the walking trails to appreciate the beauty of this reserve. It was great to see The West Australian newspaper promote Ellis Brook yesterday (1/8, page 9, Travel section). Ellis Brook Valley Reserve is definitely one of the wonders of the City of Gosnells. The journalist writes, "Why haven't I been here before?" and "I feel like I have unearthed a secret". So, when planning your next day out come and visit Ellis Brook Valley Reserve and explore the local area. You will be pleasantly surprised.

06.01.2022 A number of years ago, I had a conversation with then President, Rick Scupham, about an idea for the Thornlie Bowling Club. Today, that idea is underway and is progressing into new $5.6m purpose built facilities for the Thornlie Bowling Club Inc. and Thornlie Tennis Club and a community hall. I am very excited to see this project commence at today's turning of the sod, thanks to grants from the Federal government and Lotterywest and funding provided by the City of Gosnells ...and Thornlie Bowling Club. Congratulations to everyone involved - what an achievement! Further details can be found at: https://yoursay.gosnells.wa.gov.au/thornlie-bowls-and-tenni Thank you to club members and special guests: Senator Linda Reynolds CSC, Matt Keogh MP - Member for Burt, Chris Tallentire MLA - Member for Thornlie and Freeman of the City, Mrs Pat Morris. 06.01.2022 Netball is now a part of the newly opened multi-sports court at Mills Park, Beckenham! After community consultation and feedback, three of the four existing tennis courts have been upgraded to include netball, basketball and free space. Floodlighting and shaded seating has also been installed to make this a fabulous space for the community to use. I got to test the netball court out with Councillor Aaron Adams - City of Gosnells , Adam Hort - City of Gosnells Councillor and... Cr Julie Brown and we all gave it the stamp of approval! To hire the tennis court or multi-sport court please visit the City of Gosnells website - www.gosnells.wa.gov.au or call 9397 3000.

03.01.2022 It was great to present awards and watch the footy at the Maddington Junior Football Club Family Fun Day at Harmony Fields today. So much energy and excitement, go the Bulls!

03.01.2022 What a sensational group of singers The Godlemans are. I enjoyed their harmonies and stage performance very much at the City of Gosnells - Don Russell Performing Arts Centre tonight. Megan, Jennifer and Kim (The Godlemans) are a family trio of musicians who were part of the Sundowner Series that includes a drink, light meal and performance. The DRPAC used a cardboard cutout audience to ensure correct social distancing rules were followed - very creative. I wish The Godlemans all the very best for a successful career and thank you for such a lovely evening.

02.01.2022 Congratulations, Reno of Renos Hair Design. Being in business for 50 years is a wonderful achievement.

01.01.2022 The Snap Send and Solve mobile app is a great way to report problems that need fixing in the community.

01.01.2022 Todays History Talk about local societies, clubs and associations was fascinating. Thank you Hannah and Alison for presenting interesting information about the activities of The Ugly Mens Association, The Theosophical Society, Freemasons, Druids and The Fish Liars Association held right here in Gosnells in years gone by.
