14.01.2022 FUN FACT FRIDAY #3 The magnificent wooden archway that stands at the entrance of Walliston Primary Schools staff carpark was built in 1975. Local man Neil Wes...ton (deceased) built and erected the structure using timber sourced from the original Wallis family property. You will also see similar structures erected by Neil at the Kalamunda History Village and the Pickering Brook Sports Club. Community kinship at its best, reaching across the Hills. Mr Westons daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren have taught, attended and still currently attend Walliston Primary School.

12.01.2022 Neighbour Day holds a storytelling competition each year. Heres a snippet from 2019s WA winner: I moved to WA seven years ago leaving behind all family and f...riends to make a new life for myself. Where I have moved to, my neighbours were incredible from the very beginning. I live alone and they have always been there for an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on or too borrow some eggs when you run out for your cake! 11.01.2022 Wednesday Wonders This delightful former home, guest house and restaurant in Kalamunda was built in the 1920s and named The Summit. Upon converting the house ...into flats and opening a guest house, the owner renamed it Monterey apparently after sailing to the UK on a ship of that name. Todays photo shows the building in use as the Leonardo da Vinci Restaurant in 1984, just prior to its controversial demolition and redevelopment. The site is now the location of Red Rooster. www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/Serv/Libraries/Search-Our-Catalogue www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/LHC

03.01.2022 Book Week 2019 Highlights Day 2 Yesterday we welcomed Karen Blair, award-winning childrens picture book illustrator and author to High Wycombe and Forrestfield... Libraries. Karen talked students through the illustration process, focusing on body language, expression and colour and showed how some things can be tricky to get right, how to try different things and how this leads to solving your own problems. Karen read When Billy was a Dog written by Kirsty Murray, which she illustrated. The room was soon filled with noisy dogs, who then transformed into budding artists. Each student drew the books doggie character Fluff with charcoal. Check out some of the Fluffs in the photos below! Thank you Karen Blair! #CBCA2019

02.01.2022 Wednesday Wonders The district of Kalamundas first ambulance was ready for calls and put on the road in 1949, after the very active local St. John Ambulance Co...mmittee raised the necessary funds. The committee also built the first ambulance station in Central Road pictured in todays photo. Locals volunteered to roster on as ambulance drivers until 1976 when St. Johns began providing crews and vehicles. Bill Shaw and John Slees book Cala Munnda: a home in the forest features a chapter on the ambulance, and how a tragic road accident in 1920 and the inadequate metropolitan ambulance system at the time was the impetus for community action and eventually Kalamundas own ambulance service. Cala Munnda: a home in the forest is available for loan from all City of Kalamunda Libraries. www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/Serv/Libraries/Search-Our-Catalogue www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/LHC
