25.01.2022 Karratha Marlins water polo ladies congratulate Peel after winning to make it into the finals, starting 2:30 this afternoon.

21.01.2022 The postal voting packs for our Local Government Elections have now arrived in Karratha, so be sure to get a hold of yours from your letter box, PO Box or wherever your mail is delivered. There are 11 candidates vying for 5 positions across the City: in Karratha itself, there are 7 nominees vying for 4 positions. You have up to Saturday October 19 to fill in the form and send it off - though you should deliver it directly to the Council office for the last few days of the vo...ting period- otherwise it will end up in Perth. I am up for election again in the Karratha ward and I have put my main policies on each of my posters - sorry, some on the road sides are too small - I am getting some bigger ones done. In the voting packs there is a small bit of information on each candidate (you are allowed only 150 words), with full instructions on how you complete the form and post it. See more

21.01.2022 Thats me in the methanol mean machine about to have a few very tentative laps on the Nickol Bay Speedway. What an experience!! You touch the accelerator and whoosh!! Many thankyous to Lee Tattam, John Magerl and all at the NBS - a fantastic ride, a great bunch of guys and a terrific race track. This is a huge bonus to our community.

20.01.2022 Our Federal member, Melissa Price contacted me this morning to advise that the Commonwealth Government had budgeted $248 million to realign as necessary and seal the remainder of the Karratha to Tom Price Road. This is wonderful news and will have a huge range of benefits, opening up the hinterland for new projects, promoting a drive-in/drive-out local workforce - such as we hope will occur with the BBI - enabling tourists to easily visit it Karijini National Park and other ...sights, and making it so much quicker and safer for Tom Price and inland residents to get to the hospital and facilities in Karratha. Thanks also to the State Government for putting this road at the top of their priority list, which helped the Feds with their decision to fund it. Now, I am looking forward to it being built!

20.01.2022 Karratha Marlins Water Polo women have won the Country Championships at Busselton today. A fantastic 19 to 9 win over Bunbury. Well done girls - you really worked well together as a team - a credit to coach Dave Rigby and the whole team!

18.01.2022 We in the City of Karratha are on a mission to improve the common image of us as a dusty mining town. So we have embarked on a campaign to show the town as a great place to live, visit, work and play. With fantastic new infrastructure like our $65M Leisureplex, the dramatic new high school - now one of the biggest in the State, the $55M Red Earth Arts Precinct and the $200M and the Karratha Health Campus, the time has never been better to show off all the Pilbara lifestyle.... Our campaign is called Karratha is Calling and it shows we have an enviable lifestyle, great employment and business opportunities plus unique adventure, nature and eco-cultural experiences. The place branding campaign aims to showcase our region as an emerging tourist destination. 17.01.2022 A great night at Songs for Peace in Roebourne this evening. Lots of families at the Ngurin Centre were there to watch Archie Roach, Stephen Pigram, John Bennett, Lucky Oceans and locals showing their talents. Angus Smith and many of the Roeboune crew performed for us. And Josie Samson has a voice too! Congratulations to all - a very enjoyable night, superbly run by BIGhART with huge support from a wide range of sponsors.

17.01.2022 3000 delegates including 600 speakers and all from 70 different nationalities are in Melbourne for the World Engineering Convention this week. Today the Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel with Dr Paul Durrant of the International Renewable Energy Agency spoke on the opportunities offered by hydrogen and noted Australias strong positioning in this space. We were told hydrogen in 20 years could be bigger than LNG is today. Karratha is perfectly positioned to take advantage of this massive opportunity for our nation.

16.01.2022 Karratha Marlins are holding their own at the Country Week Championships in Busselton this weekend. Some exciting games!

16.01.2022 This is what a spring high tide and some cyclone surge can do: the back beach at Karratha, Searipple, Dampier and Hearson Cove:

16.01.2022 Today is the last day of the WA Regional Tourism Conference at Karratha - it has been a fantastic event with lots of positive talk about our incredible region. Last nights dinner on the beach at Hearson Cove was magic - such a stunning venue! Clinton Walker entertained us with traditional stories then took a group out over the the Hearson Cove mudflats where there was a brilliant Stairway to the Moon - and a turtle! Clinton also won the Award for Individual Excellence in Aboriginal Tourism last night - another to add to his tally! Here Minister Steven Dawson and Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall present Clinton with his award:

15.01.2022 Nominations for council closed yesterday and there are seven candidates vying for four positions in the Karratha ward and two vying for one position in the Wickham Roeboune Point Samson and Pastoral ward. Voting packs will be sent out Friday September 20 so we should get them early the following week. You can send off your vote anytime until Election Day on October 19th. Good luck to all!

12.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who participated in the brilliant fund raiser at the REAP last night for the fire brigade and those affected during this terrible fire season. Thank you to all who attended, to the businesses who so generously donated money and especially to the organisers, without whom it wouldnt have happened - Brad, Bart, Marg, Nick and all the others. A superb effort and a fantastic result!

09.01.2022 It was terrific to see so many of our street out on their driveways this morning for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. We recognise not only the many who have fought for our country in theatres of war but also those who cared for the dying and wounded - so especially poignant this year as the coronavirus rages over the world and we depend on these brave doctors and nurses to fight this new front to save our community from harm. Lest we forget.

08.01.2022 Happy Easter! We are truly blessed to be living in this beautiful part of the world. Let us all be thankful and remember those who are not so fortunate. Have a lovely day.

08.01.2022 The Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia is in Singapore for a few days meeting with a range of corporate and government bodies in an effort to increase trade between Asia and northern Australia. I havent been here for a long time and the transformation is incredible. Their per-capita income on a PPP (purchasing parity) basis is now 50% more than Australia at $98k per head. It is amazing what a nation of only 5 million people on 720 square kilometres (thats 27km x 27 km) of land can do with discipline, hard work, vision, taking a risk and working for a long term objective for the benefit of all. Lets hope the CRC can get some things started for the Pilbara and Kimberley while here.

07.01.2022 I would like to thank everyone who voted for me at the Local Government elections over these last few weeks. The count on Saturday night went quickly to see Garry Bailey returned to the Roeboune/Wickham/Point Samson/Pastoral Ward with Dan Scott, Marg Bertling, Geoff Harris and myself to the Karratha Ward. I was re-elected by Council as Mayor last night and I feel very privileged to represent our great community for another 2 years. I will continue to work my hardest to impro...ve our facilities and services here for the benefit of all. I would also like to congratulate Kelly Nunn on being elected Deputy Mayor last night. Finally I would like to thank previous Deputy Mayor Grant Cucel who just missed out on a council seat on Saturday. Grant worked tirelessly for the town over the last four years and was a great support to me: all the best, Grant.

03.01.2022 After only three days of practice, KSHS Year 7 student Teis Pedersen performed this excellent rendition of the Last Post for the community in his street at the Dawn Service this morning. Well done Teis - you make us proud!

03.01.2022 Hi everyone - ballot papers are out for the Local Government elections in Karratha. My election commitments are here on my Facebook site - please help me ensure continuity for our community.

03.01.2022 It was really wonderful to meet up with three terrific guys doing so much for the good of our community this week. On Friday, Paul Tahi Tahi, Michael Dodd and Paul APathy came to explain their work with Man-Up, a brilliant program which is helping men come to terms with their past and to become better fathers and valuable members of our community. Well done men you are doing fantastic work for us all.
