23.01.2022 The Wool Industry is already making a big difference to the economy of our regional towns. The sector will require skilled shearer’s , Wool classers, shedhands and other workers as our sheep numbers grow . As Mayor I will advocate for training programs at the revived Longreach Pastoral College which has excellent infrastructure for this purpose. All of our regional towns will benefit from having access to locally trained staff. Written and Authorised by T Rayner 90 Eagle Street, Longreach Qld 4730
19.01.2022 Update Dear Yaraka , Isisford , Ilfracombe and Longreach residents as stated in my last post I have been working full time in supporting the Council response to COVID-19. As a member of the District Disaster Management Group and Acting Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group I believe we are well advanced with our systems that are in place to protect our communities. QLD Health are the lead agency for COVID-19 and Council are working with them every day to help implement... the best systems . This requires the support of every resident to treat this with the utmost seriousness and local businesses are to be commended for their professional and rapid actions to reduce the possible spread. Digital Road signage is in place on the main roads advising that Restricted Travel is in place . Tourism Authorities are advising tourists that they should not travel to the Outback. Additional signage and advise will continue to be increased. Yesterday we met with the State Disaster Coordination Centre and the Mayors and CEOs of the 77 Qld Councils. Longreach is well advanced with plans and preventive measures . The Longreach Regional Council web site will provide regular updates. Please take the time to thank all of our wonderful Health staff, Police, Emergency Services, Teachers and Council staff as we all work together to fight COVID-19. 17.01.2022 Thinking about what makes an effective team and this photo sums it up well, everyone has a job to do and they should do it to the best of their ability . The Mayor needs to show strong leadership and support Councillors to create an effective team that makes the best decisions for each community. Over the last two months as I have visited communities for public meetings, talked to people in the street and at their business, engaged in daily Facebook discussions and spoken to ...people on the phone I have listened to what has worked well and what needs changing . The new Council has to keep doing what has worked well and make changes based on community feedback and evidence. As Mayor I will act on the feedback received and lead a functional team to deliver quality and cost effective services. As the postal votes are mailed out I seek your support to deliver what all communities deserve. Written and Authorised by T Rayner 90 Eagle Street Longreach Qld 4730. See more

13.01.2022 Update Dear Residents of Yaraka, Isisford , Ilfracombe and Longreach , with many small businesses closing please remember that most have online shopping access or take away facilities for food and other outlets . Buy Local is more important than ever and many of our businesses have home delivery services. Today in Longreach the District Disaster Management Group will be meeting via video conferencing and this will be followed by our Local Disaster Management Group later this... week . Both groups will progress with planning to assist the safety and service delivery for all of our communities. As the Acting Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group I attend both meetings and will be actively ensuring that we are doing everything possible to help all of our towns and residents. As you fully understand this necessitates a large amount of time in planning and meeting with relevant agencies at the state and federal level. We are guided by advice from the lead agency Qld Health and then the input from those agencies that hold other accountabilities . I will be focusing my time on this urgent task and will be limiting any more campaigning. I remain focused on the following priorities if elected as Longreach Mayor: # Fulfilling all roles and leadership functions in the response to Coronavirus # Promoting Buy Local/ Shop Local # Working with State and Federal Ministers on business support and recovery packages # Ensuring that impacted individuals have ready access to all available financial support # Capping rates and working with State and Federal Government on further support # Maintaining quality and cost effective delivery of services # Full time commitment to the role of Mayor Please contact me at any time to answer any queries or concerns you have and let’s all work together as we manage this crisis. 07.01.2022 COVID-19 At the moment nearly everyone is focused on the health and economic impact of Coronavirus. Globally, nationally and regionally it is impacting all of us in some way. QLD Health is the lead agency for responding to COVID-19 and they will provide timely updates and advice . As of today our own Longreach Mayor, Ed Warren is under home quarantine for 14 days as part of best practice following contact with a Member of Parliament who tested positive . As Deputy Chair of th...e Longreach Local Disaster Management Group I will be acting as Chair of this group and will meet with other agency managers next Monday to discuss how we can work together to keep the communities informed and to assist both businesses and residents on managing the impacts. Our local businesses are already assisting those in need of support and this typifies the spirit of community goodwill in our towns in times of need. We will collectively work together to provide the required support and anyone with concerns can call 13 HEALTH ( 13 43 25 84) or access the Queensland Health website at www.health.qld.gov.au/coronavirus Written and Authorised by T Rayner 90 Eagle Street Longreach QLD 4730.
06.01.2022 Council Term in Review Following the last Council meeting for this term for the Longreach Regional Council it is timely to do a quick review. Achievements:... Ilfracombe - Water security through the installation of a new bore and water treatment plant. Longreach - New Library and 30 year lease of Saleyard saving $500,000 in expenses and generating revenue . Yaraka, Isisford , Ilfracombe and Longreach - Wild Dog Exclusion fencing. Improved production and profitability and new jobs. Major infrastructure upgrade and replacement in water mains and sewerage in Longreach. Engagement of a specialist grant writer in 2019 who has had proven success in gaining grants for our communities . Facilities upgrades and or new infrastructure in all four towns. Water security plans well under way for new weirs at Longreach and Isisford. The preliminary investigations on the Longreach weir are that by raising the weir one metre we will increase stored water by 28% without any impact on roads. This is not about increased allocations it is about water security and avoiding water restrictions . Detailed planning and research has occurred over the last two years on water security. Numerous other capital works and operational works have occurred throughout the Longreach Regional Council area . Securing additional grant funding for the Longreach Child Care Centre has improved the financial performance of this facility . Our challenge ahead is to work in partnership with the State and Federal Government and support our local businesses and communities as we all manage the Coronavirus. The Council has been meeting daily to plan for the impact of COVID-19 . Now more than ever this Council needs stable, experienced leadership and knowledge of disaster management and recovery plans and proven ability to be able to dedicate my time to supporting our residents and communities. 03.01.2022 Infrastructure Investment Longreach Regional Council has invested heavily over the last 4 years in replacing and renewing a range of infrastructure . Specifically, water mains, roads, sewerage, new Bore and water treatment plant at Ilfracombe and a lot of other necessary infrastructure that is not visible but supports our communities. This funding is a mix of Grant funding and operational funding. It is a strategic investment for the future and will help reduce future costs i...n the years ahead. The Council has leased out the Saleyard at Longreach saving approximately $500,000 a year and allowing a private company to invest in the facility . Council has also attracted additional grant funding to help meet the true service costs at the Child Care Centre. In the term ahead the new Council will be able to achieve further savings through improved fleet management , reduced electricity costs, improved fuel usage and many other cost savings as well as attracting grant funding that helps grow each community and improve the bottom line.
