25.01.2022 Let us pray to the Lord!

25.01.2022 Blessed Ecclesiastical New Year!! The First Ecumenical Council (Nicaea, 325) decreed that the Church year should begin on September 1. The month of September was the beginning of the civil year (Exodus 23:16), the month of gathering the harvest and of the offering of thanks to God. It was on this feast that the Lord Jesus entered the synagogue in Nazareth (Luke 4:16-21), opened the book of the Prophet Isaiah and read the words:"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me; because the Lord has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken-hearted"

21.01.2022 Important information for the faithful +

20.01.2022 Wow, what a night! It is when you are being drenched by the heavy rain serving food to the homeless, that you truly appreciate and thank God for the blessings H...e has bestowed you with. Last night (Monday 21st December) we held our annual Christmas Party for the homeless which included a special Christmas Feast and the giving of the Christmas Hampers under very different circumstances than any other year weather wise and pandemic wise. Due to COVID 19, our Christmas Feast had to be pre-packaged but thanks to the wonderful people and businesses that donated and cooked the food, and the amazing volunteers who prepped and packed the 170 meals and meal packages so smoothly that they made it look effortless (despite the high degree of effort and hard work put in), the Christmas Party was a huge success despite the challenging circumstances. We were overwhelmed to be greeted by approximately 140 homeless individuals patiently waiting for our arrival in two lines in the pouring rain! Each individual received a meal package containing their main meal, salad, dessert, fruit, bread & butter, a drink and a gingerbread cookie as well as their Christmas Hamper to the sounds of Christmas carols and heavy rain. We then drove around the streets of the city and walked through Wynyard & Central Stations to distribute the remainder of the meals and hampers to those who could not make it to the Christmas party due to the pouring rain and the need to secure their spots undercover to ensure they remain dry overnight. While we went home, and changed out of our soaking wet clothes, had hot showers and climbed into our comfortable warm beds, they were securing their home for the night, out of the wind and rain and sleeping on the cold concrete floors. Thank you to all those who donated money, food, items, or their time to our Christmas hampers or meals. You have truly made a difference to these individuals lives especially in a time where so many people are struggling. The true spirit and meaning of Christmas shone last night in our volunteers who packed those meals with love and in the hampers we distributed which would not have been possible without you all. May you have a Merry Christmas with all your loved ones. God bless SRM

15.01.2022 Vespers on tonight 6:30pm "Saint Joseph lived in Syria in the 19th century. He was a priest who worked as a translator and editor of the Church Fathers' writings, desiring to bring their teachings to the faithful. In 1860, a wave of anti-Christian Druze riots swept through Damascus, destroying part of the city and killing more than 3000 Orthodox and Melkite Catholics. Saint Joseph carried out his priestly work to the end, taking the Eucharist to survivors even as the riots were happening. When he was finally confronted by the rioters, he consumed the remaining Eucharist and was savagely attacked with axes, gaining the crown of martyrdom. Saint Joseph's feast day is July 10."
