Please 'BOOK' a single or multiple (group) ticket here: https://www.mbas.org.au/house-of-blues-01-06-2021 JIMI HOCKING has been a familiar sight to Australian audiences for many years and is a multi-award-winning songwriter, singer and guitarist of the highest calibre, the electric love child of T-Bone Walker, BB King and Jimi Hendrix. Along with the gold records he collected with the 'Screaming Jets' in the 1990's, Jimi has also released a large body of solo work (15 albums), from electric rock and blues, to contemporary folk and blues mandolin. In the late 90's Jimi parted from the Jets to pursue his love of the Blues, and began regular performing trips to the USA. A three time 'CAV-Best Acoustic performer', 'MBAS 2003 Male Blues Artist of the Year', 'MBAS 2004 Blues Performer of the Year', and then in 2005 Jimi won the prestigious 'International Blues Challenge' in Memphis USA, where an extensive US tour followed. In 2008 Jimi was pronounced the 'VicTas Male blues artist of the year' and also 'Producer of 2008' for his work on his album 'Blue Mandolin'. 2009 saw Jimi invited to Kathmandu to perform at the 'Himalayan Blues Festival'. In 2010 Jimi rejoined 'The Screaming Jets' to perform lead guitar duties, and the 'Jets' then went on to join 'Status Quo' for their Australian tour. The same year, his solo album 'Electric Mojo Machine' won 'best album' and 'best band' at the MBAS VIC/TAS Blues Awards. In 2011 Jimi took his 'Blues Machine' back to perform in Kathmandu and India, and following this, his 2012 electric live album 'LIVE: In The Moment' hit # 5 on the Australian Blues airplay charts. In 2017 Jimi released a Jazz/Blues EP, 'Home Cooking' with his dad Kevin Hocking OAM. This year, along with a 30th anniversary re-recorded version of the Screaming Jets 'All for One' album, Jimi is releasing his latest solo album, 'To the Moon So Blue'. In high demand for both his solo and band performances, Jimi is in his element live on stage, whether it be a small cafe or a massive festival. His combination of banter and story-telling, wailing guitar and mandolin with superb songwriting and performance makes Jimi one of the 'must-see' acts in blues today. Photo credit: Paul Hooper

19.01.2022 MBAS 'HOUSE OF BLUES' @ FLEMINGTON BOWLS CLUB Tuesday 11th MAY 2021 FREE ENTRY, all welcome! 8pm: Feature act: KING CANYON 9pm 11pm: Blues Jam (Jammers to register by 8:30pm) 6:30pm: Doors open + KITCHEN OPEN FOR MEALS (6:30pm 8:30pm)... FREE entry, but attendees are encouraged to pre-book via the MBAS website for table seating due to limited venue capacity under Covid-safe regulations. Please 'BOOK' a single or multiple (group) ticket here: https://www.mbas.org.au/house-of-blues-11-05-2021 KING CANYON pair Melbourne guitarist James Ryan and vocalist Jimmy Cupples, who joined forces early in 2020 to form a Blues-fuelled project built around high energy guitar riffs, soulful vocals and recalling the raw, powerful sounds of the 60s and 70s. James Ryan is a well-respected and sought after guitarist, performing locally and internationally with industry heavyweights such as Ross Wilson, Russell Morris, Tina Arena, The Badloves and even Men At Work in their heyday. His guitar-centric YouTube channel "ilovenoise" has over 15k subscribers and more than 6 million views. Jimmy Cupples is a gifted singer with a voice that seems impossibly powerful and effortless. He was introduced to music performance at a young age, with both parents being singers and his uncle Peter Cupples, a very popular 70's Australian artist. Jimmy became a household name as a finalist on The Voice", and had his music featured in the Australian movie "Rise". King Canyon have so far released five tracks, including the singles "Woman" and "Smoke Stack City" both receiving radio support. Followed up with the soulful "Long Distance", and a smokey acoustic blues version of the classic hit "Evie". Their latest single is the heavy guitar driven "Pretty Little Thing". King Canyon have just finished tour support with the Badloves through April, to wide acclaim. "A Blues (Psychedelic), Soul, Rock ensemble, with a strong 60’s and 70’s influence, King Canyon brought huge guitar riffs and high hitting soulful vocals to the stage. If you fancy the vocals of Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, the charisma of Paul Rodgers (Free and Bad Company) and the retro rock sounds of Cream, then King Canyon must be thrown onto your ‘must see’ live list." 08.01.2022 The MBAS is a long-time affiliate of The Blues Foundation in Memphis USA. Today they released a statement which we support, especially the eradication of racism in deference to the legacy of the Blues. Blues music was born in a climate of poverty, racism, exploitation and deprivation. To honour the legacy of the music, we stand with our Blues brothers and sisters on this important issue.

04.01.2022 MBAS 'HOUSE OF BLUES' @ FLEMINGTON BOWLS CLUB Tuesday 4th MAY 2021 FREE ENTRY, all welcome! 8pm: Feature act: THE DETONATORS 9pm 11pm: Blues Jam (Jammers to register by 8:30pm)... 6:30pm: Doors open + KITCHEN OPEN FOR MEALS (6:30pm 8:30pm) FREE entry, but attendees are encouraged to pre-book via the MBAS website for table seating due to limited venue capacity under Covid-safe regulations. Please 'BOOK' a single or multiple (group) ticket here: https://www.mbas.org.au/house-of-blues-04-05-2021 THE DETONATORS were formed in Melbourne way back in August 1997. This popular hard-working quartet have never been afraid to hit the road, haul some kilometres and rack up a heap of gigs. They believe they have easily done more than 3,000 gigs since they first formed. The "Dets" have a finely honed array of original songs and a stage show that only comes from years of gigging pubs, clubs and festivals. Their relentless touring over vast distances through the years, both in Australia and overseas, has seen them become crowned kings of Australian roots rock 'n' roll. Their original music, to which all members contribute, is best described as a lethal combination of early blues with a sprinkling of rockabilly and early rock 'n' roll thrown in. The 4-piece features bespectacled Rockbottom James out front on vocals and electric harmonica, Paulie Bignell on hollow body guitar, Doghouse Dave on slapping double bass with Eddie Fury on sticks and skins duty. There are six CD releases in their arsenal, and a book currently being written about the bands exploits over 23 years which will be available mid to late 2021. In early January 2020, The Detonators were selected to support Australian legends Cold Chisel at 'A Day on the Green' in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, and at 'A Day by the Sea' on the beach in Glenelg South Australia both massive sold-out outdoor shows. The Detonators can be heard on rotation on radio, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube and more, and have had their music on the local film 'Charlie and Boots' as well as the Australian Crime TV series 'Underbelly'. Thunder Road Brewing have used their songs in radio ads, and top rated American TV series 'De Grassi High' also features The Detonators music. Dancing shoes, listening ears and drinking arms are compulsory for any good-time Dets show, because you never know what Rockbottom James is going to do or say next!
