13.01.2022 Professor Longsword was asked by LinkedIn to comment on The Sydney Morning Herald story about upwards bullying in universities; where staff bully their leaders. This is what he wrote: We got a hint of this a while back. At first, we celebrated the verve and spunk of our subordinates until we sensed sinister tones. Our solution has been to welcome our underlings to join us in our monthly, faculty hot tub meetings. There’s something levelling and humbling about being nude toge...ther in a defined space for two hours that dissolves pretence and provides a level playing field for discourse. It’s fascinating what pops up when members are so close to each other. It’s common for us to be able to grasp things that usually go unseen. As a further gesture, during these meetings we release students and associate professors from their mandated responsibility for serving drinks to their superiors; we all take turns dipping (or should I say, dripping) down to the university bar, wrapped in the Designated Server towel, carrying the Spa Bar tray. 12.01.2022 When our faculty read the InDaily story about The University of Adelaide shutting this week to save money, Professor Longsword called an emergency spa meeting of all staff. Over an evening of bubbles in the bath and bubbles in the glass, we came up with some insights to shine light on the uni going dark. And our suggestions involve On Dit, lab rats, and professors. How have you fared, thus far?... We encourage Flinders University and the University of South Australia to open their doors temporarily, to any forlorn academics or students needing succour. 06.01.2022 Professor Longsword has just passed on his hearty congratulations to Christopher Pyne on the occasion of his honorary doctorate. The Professor said, interestingly, as much as it was nice to be there, I had said Christopher could airbrush me out of the photo - our little school doesn't want to rain on any parades; military or otherwise. He did and I must say his artist did a stellar job recreating the background I obscured, even going so far as to add in a student. Wonders ...abound. Compare the images. Very clever.
