24.01.2022 Children were presented artwork by the famous Australian artist, Ken Done. We spoke with the children about different elements in the painting such as the colours and textures. Children then had the opportunity to do cotton ball painting using Ken Done’s artwork as inspiration. These experiences help children develop new processes, fine motor skills and expand their vocabulary.

20.01.2022 We celebrated Pancake Day at Malvern. The children helped to prepare pancakes and enjoyed these for their afternoon tea. The preparation and cooking of recipes enables children to become more independent. The children develop co-ordination skills, expand their vocabulary and their ability to make decisions.

16.01.2022 We explored Chinese New Year with discussion on traditions and the use of chopsticks. These activities assist in developing children’s understanding of the world around them, confidently exploring and engaging with social and physical environments through relationships and play.

15.01.2022 During circle time the children were introduced to the Sandpaper Globe. The blue colour represents the water and the yellow represents the land. Water is smooth to feel, and the land is rough. Children had turns during circle time to feel the land and water to differentiate between the rough and smooth texture. This activity not only helps children with their senses but also gives them the new vocabulary to explore.

The children were excited to see that the tomatoes had slowly started to grow and wanted to taste them, even though they were not fully ripe.
