25.01.2022 Wishing all our amazing Mums a Happy Mother’s Day! No matter how you will be spoiling Mum this weekend, we hope it makes her feel special (after all, she is a cut above the rest!). Let’s also remember to support our local retailers and businesses when choosing Mother's Day gifts this year. And don’t forget your local butcher who will have some great tips to help you make a delicious dinner for mum!
24.01.2022 Butchers and other MBL customers have been presented with an amazing golden opportunity to upgrade machinery and other equipment under Federal Government stimulus initiatives. Businesses can claim immediate tax deductions for any number of items purchased at any cost, as announced in October’s COVID recovery Budget. Don’t miss out on this unprecedented offer which ends on 30th June 2022, but machinery must be in use, or installed ready for use, by that date. For more information, give us a call on 08 8417 6000 or send us an email [email protected]

21.01.2022 The introduction of IKONpack's Green Eco-Cane trays at Unley Meats has been welcomed enthusiastically by their customers! The response has been excellent. Customers are really happy with them, saying they are fantastic, says veteran butcher Nigel Hassal, who has purchased merchandise exclusively from MBL for decades. Switching from foam to home compostable trays is good for business, giving the message that we want to do something for the environment. We are trying to do our bit for future generations. Thank you for your support Nigel and we hope to see more sustainable packaging in store!
21.01.2022 Training new apprentices will never be more financially attractive for butchers than in 2021, thanks to a generous MBL incentive for Members. In an initiative to tackle the concerning skills shortage, MBL will cover the cost of the Member’s new apprentice training at TAFE SA RTO: 41026, Regency Park. MBL will also cover the Member for the new apprentice’s wage on the days they attend training at TAFE. To register your interest, please call 1300 627 628 or email [email protected]
19.01.2022 Winners are certainly grinners. Well done and congratulations to MBL member Cummins Meat Store for winning 4 gold medals at the SA West Coast regional Sausage King, Best Butchers Burger and Smallgoods competition!
17.01.2022 Some centuries-old smallgoods traditions have died out in Germany but Barossa legend Graham Linke, as sharp as a tack at 82, has been passionately applying them for 66 years. As a third-generation butcher at Linke’s Central Meat Store Linke's Central Meat Store, which has been serving the Barossa for 93 years, Graham is the custodian of Germanic smallgoods traditions with a range including mettwursts, leberwurst, kassler rib, ricewurst, lachs schinken and jaegerbraten, as well as hams and bacon. Using traditional family recipes dating back to the 19th century, handed down from ancestors who left Silesia and landed in South Australia in 1838 to build a new life, he has long been promoted as a treasure on the Barossa’s food and wine tourism trail, attracting foodies from around Australia and across the world. Amazing work, Graham!
15.01.2022 A big congratulations to the team from Carve N Cut for winning Best Beef BBQ Sausage at the SA West Coast regional Sausage King, Best Butchers Burger and Smallgoods competition! Amazing results for their first time entering the competition
14.01.2022 Bronte Illsley needed only two words to sum up his 57 years as a highly-respected butcher thoroughly enjoyable. The meat industry stalwart passed away in late October last year, aged 80. Always a model to up-and-coming butchers, he made many unpaid contributions to the industry, including roles with AMIC. He operated a number of shops throughout Adelaide and was an institution in Sterling where he ran Oak Meat Store for 21 years until his retirement. He will be sorely missed and we thank him for all his valuable contributions to the SA meat industry.
08.01.2022 As a TAFE graduate who now owns his own shop, Jason Dick says butchery is a demanding career that rewards hard work. His advice for today’s apprentices is to be committed to realising their goals, otherwise, butchery can lapse into becoming just another job. It’s an intense, high-labour job that requires as such mental effort as physical effort, says Jason, who owns two-man Bower Road Meat Store at Ethelton. Keep up the great work, Jason
