25.01.2022 Is your dog tax deductible? In short - probably not. But if you buy or hire a legitimate guard dog and it protects your work/business assets such as a factory or tools on a work site then it could be. If you own a legitimate guard dog you may be able to claim all the expenses associated with owning the dog such as vet bills, pet food expenses, the cost of training the dog and other maintenance costs.... https://www.ato.gov.au//Guards-and-security-employees---/

19.01.2022 Did you know that if you work in jobs with frequent contact with the public you may be able to claim hand sanitiser, gloves and masks as protective equipment in your tax return? People working in retail, hospitality and healthcare are most likely to use this but it is open to all occupations. Keep those receipts!

16.01.2022 Unfortunately the office is currently experiencing a power outage affecting phones, computers and internet. We are still able to access emails for any urgent matters but will have to close the office for the rest of the day (Monday 10 August 2020).

16.01.2022 A timely reminder that if you are working remotely or from home that you may be able to claim home office expenses. If you are unsure what you can claim and what records to keep, have a read of the ATO website or give us a call.

16.01.2022 ****COVID-19 Notice Office Closed to the Public**** In line with the Government advice relating to COVID-19 our office will no longer serve clients face to face. We have taken this step to reduce the risk to our staff, our clients and the broader community. The majority of staff will be working remotely with only 1-2 staff members on premises to service phone calls and other tasks. There will be NO scaling back of our workflow - particularly in light of the stimulus measure...s recently announced which many of our clients will be eligible (contact us if you would like an accountant to walk you through everything). All documents sent out for signing will be via email or posted. Should you wish to drop information into the office please use the mail slot in our front door. We are here for all our clients in this time of uncertainty, as always, please feel free to phone or email us if there is anything we can do to assist. Our office also has the ability to skype or video call. We thank you for your patience at this troubling time and hope everyone remains safe and vigilant. Stay positive we will pull through this together! Kind regards, The MB Partners team

14.01.2022 To all those that have served past and present we will always remember you.

12.01.2022 It's been a monstrous few weeks for the team processing JobKeeper! Just a reminder to everyone to be on the look out for scams. If anyone calls asking for private or confidential information always check with your accountant or call the ATO directly on a publicly advertised ATO line to verify the person you are talking to is legitimate. If anyone has any questions about JobKeeper feel free to call or email the team at MB Partners

12.01.2022 It was an interesting Budget release with a number of teasers there for businesses and individual taxpayers! We will wait to see when and how these are legislated but overall there are a number of changes that are worth a look. If you want to have a chat feel free to phone our office on (02) 4571 1490.

09.01.2022 Just reminder that our office has reopened following the Christmas break. We are all refreshed and ready to tackle 2021! Below is a short notice that if you use a home office you will still be allowed to use the $0.80 shortcut method for calculating home office expenses through till 30 June 2021. Ensure you keep diary evidence if you work from your home office!

09.01.2022 Nothing like celebrating a Friyay with a dad joke. #accountanttruth Hope everybody has a relaxing weekend. ~from the team

07.01.2022 The following infographic from our good friends at charteredaccountantsanz.com summarises the key points from the recent JobKeeper 2.0 announced this week.

06.01.2022 Accounting error in your favour please collect ~$60b anyone? Oops! The Australian Government will save ~$60b on the JobKeeper program as it was significantly under subscribed. Initial estimates for JobKeeper were based on a worst case scenario of a prolonged business lockdown and an exponential rate of infections which now looks unlikely to be reached (yay!).

06.01.2022 So just how painful is the Australian Tax System? Here's a few funny nuances that keep BAS and Tax Agents awake at night; - Fruit and nut mix (raw nuts and dried fruit only) is GST free unless it contains banana chips, roasted nuts or glace fruit in which case it's subject to GST - Cold Garlic Bread is GST free, if it's hot garlic bread it's subject to GST - Fruit juice over 90% is GST free, under 90% and it is subject to GST... - Fruit buns are GST free only if it doesn't have any sweet fillings or coatings, otherwise it's subject to GST - Fresh Fruits are GST free unless they are part of a fruit platter in which case they are subject to GST - Bottled water sold at a cafe is subject to GST but if it's bought at a supermarket then it's GST free Perfectly clear right? If you're overwhelmed with the tax system it might be time to talk to an accountant who can cut through these sorts of nuances for you.

06.01.2022 We can confirm that as accountants we definitely live the highs and lows of every one of our clients on an almost daily basis. To hear so many life stories takes us on adventures we could not possibly have imagined ourselves. It's always a pleasure to hear our clients talk about what's happening in their world and if we can assist in anyway. We our clients! Credit for the news article - The Daily Telegraph, 9 July 2020.

04.01.2022 It's coming up to that time of year again . Just a reminder that when it comes to work Christmas parties you need to factor in how to approach the event logistics, COVID restrictions and don't forget Fringe Benefits Tax! Fringe Benefits Tax (aka the fun tax) can apply to a range of benefits including food, drink, event costs, presents etc so ensure you check what the FBT implications and exemptions are before you start the end of year celebrations!

04.01.2022 In case you missed it - the JobMaker hiring credit is a wage subsidy for business hiring new eligible staff. If your looking at hiring it's well worth a look. In other news the Government has also introducing legislation into Parliament to ensure COVID-related small-business grants are treated as non-assessable, non-exempt income for tax purposes. #covidrecovery

02.01.2022 ANNNND JobKeeper is back! The passing of this legislation means businesses that are still suffering a decline in turnover can continue to receive the wage subsidy to support their workforce. Be sure to check in with a qualified accountant to retest the eligibility of your business!

01.01.2022 Happy New Financial Year everyone!

01.01.2022 It seems the Government wants to force businesses to accelerate their use of technology by making E-Invoicing mandatory in the future. The Treasury even considered possible penalties for business non compliance. Have a read of the article below by AccountantsDaily about the Treasury Consultation paper....... https://www.accountantsdaily.com.au//15095-government-mull

01.01.2022 The latest NSW State Budget had a few interesting measures covering; - Payroll tax threshold increase - 'Out and About' cash hand out to individuals - Trade and Investment Jobs Plus Program to encourage businesses to relocate or increase their dealings in NSW - Training and Upskilling workers program... A lot of the measures are aimed at helping business recover and to kick start businesses into hiring staff and relocating to NSW. https://www.publicaccountant.com.au//nsw-unveils-business-
