19.01.2022 "While being rather playful, inflatables can also hold space for speculative thinking and be poignant political symbols" says Keg de Souza about her work 'Impossible Utopia' (2011), in an interview with MCA Curator Stephanie Berlangieri. In this recent publication for MCA's Stories & ideas, de Souza and Berlangieri discuss the work, its connection to public housing and the importance of community during the COVID-19 pandemic. 'Impossible Utopia' has been installed as part of ...the new MCA Collection show 'Anywhere but here'. Berlangieri and co-curator Lucy Latella have responded to the global upheaval of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak with a collection of works by artists who have participated in Primavera, the MCA’s annual exhibition of young Australian artists aged 35 and under. Experience the exhibition for yourself and consider how the works reflect our own changes over these last few months. Images: 1. Keg de Souza, Impossible Utopia, 2011. 10.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that the guest artist that will be joining us for our Namuru professional development workshop this Friday will be Jazz Money! Jazz is a poet, filmmaker and educator of Wiradjuri heritage, currently based on the beautiful sovereign lands of the Darug and Gundungurra nations. Her poetry has been published and spoken widely across so-called ‘Australia,’ and reimagined as murals, installation and video art. Jazz is the 2020 winner of the David Unaip...on Award. In 2019, Jazz was also the inaugural winner of the Aunty Kerry Reed-Gilbert Poetry Prize and a recipient of the Copyright Agency First Nations Fellowship. Her first collection of poetry is forthcoming with University of Queensland Press. Jazz’s writing can also be found on the pages of the Australian Poetry Journal, Australian Poetry Anthology, Westerly, Overland, Runway, Firstdraft, Rabbit Journal, Running Dog, Lieu, West Space Offsite, Meniscus and FNAWN, amongst others. As a freelance film maker and digital producer, Jazz is interested in the intersections of art, culture, community and technology, with a research focus into Indigenous Data Sovereignty. She also works as a researcher for the arts program CANVAS on FBi 94.5FM, Sydney’s independent radio station for music, art and culture. Jazz's previous work within the education sector (early childhood and tertiary) informed her interest in creative collaboration and the importance of self representation for First Nations communities. So if you haven't booked in for our Namuru secondary workshop this Friday (Oct 23) or our early learning and primary workshops later in the year, click on the link and get your last minute tickets!
