14.01.2022 Great news for the Barkly region with the Australian Government announcing it will contribute $120 million towards the upgrade of the Carpentaria Highway. Upgra...des include strengthening and widening, flood immunity works and road safety improvements. This will support industry and business by providing better freight links, and enhance social equity by providing a more efficient, safe and reliable means for Territorians to access key essential services such as education, health and time-critical emergency services. Specific packages of works will be delivered in stages based on ongoing investigations, assessments and analysis of road conditions and vehicle accident data, and community consultations. This project is expected to start mid 2022 and be finished by mid 2026. - Steven Edgington
