24.01.2022 Our CEO Jocelyn Bignold about to appear before the Australian Parliamentary inquiry into family violence 12.15 on Thursday Nov 19 https://www.aph.gov.au/News_and_Events/LiveMediaPlayer

24.01.2022 Family violence poverty homelessness. That's so often the trajectory. The fear of poverty and homelessness makes it difficult for women to leave violent relationships. #antipovertyweek

23.01.2022 A crowdfunding campaign by two McAuley supporters is looking to help a woman who has become homeless due to family violence have a home. A violent and financially abusive relationship left June in financial ruin, living in her car on a block of land in the bush in Victoria. Despite her difficult living circumstances, June works one day a week and is currently studying her VCE through TAFE, a move she hopes will open up the possibility of an office job some time in the future.... June is managing the payments on the bush block; if this campaign raises $60,000, we at McAuley Community Services for Women can build June a small mobile home that she can live in forever. This may not be everyone’s choice for a permanent place to live, but for June this modest dwelling will mean safety, warmth, comfort, security home. And a chance to better connect with her children. Can you help us help June build her dream home? https://www.givenow.com.au//everywomandeservestoliveindign

22.01.2022 It's Anti-Poverty Week and the figures are confronting. 774,000 children or 1 in 6 Australian children aged 0-14 years lived in poverty in 2017-18 (the latest available data). At 17.7%, the percentage of children living in poverty is higher than the percentage of any other age group including those aged 65 years and over. Since social security payments were raised temporarily because of COVID, many families are finally experiencing a respite from the indignities of the day-to-day struggle to survive. #antipovertyweek

21.01.2022 You can do something to prevent family violence, when shopping to pamper yourself or buy gifts for others...all proceeds from this beauty care package from Adore Beauty will be donated to Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre

17.01.2022 With the help of St Vincent's Private Hospital Werribee we were able to share some lovely gifts with the women and children we work with over Mothers' Day weekend. Thanks for your generosity!

17.01.2022 "If you were experiencing family violence, if you were living in fear for your life, if your actions were being controlled, would you also be out looking for a ...job?" Jocelyn Bignold, CEO of McAuley Community Services for Women, presents at the national Catholic social services conference in February this year. See the full presentation, here: bit.ly/3oJUq5s An edited version of Jocelyn's presentation can be found in our newly published book, Serving Communities with Courage and Compassion. This book includes contributions from more than 50 professionals from across Australia and New Zealand who are critically reflecting and exploring a broad range of ideas and issues pertaining to our collective work of building a just and compassionate society. 16.01.2022 Today is a significant day - one where the oldest living culture in the world was forever changed. There is a diversity of views about the appropriateness of celebrating on this particular day and at McAuley we acknowledge with sadness that it is one which for the First Nations people brings pain and sorrow.

15.01.2022 Wow, how lucky are we with brilliant young women raising money to help those we support. And obviously having heaps of fun in the process, thank you Our Lady of Mercy College Heidelberg

14.01.2022 With this week's celebration of the International Day of Volunteers we'd like to pay tribute to the amazing troops that we can call on throughout every aspect of our organisation. This year's theme #togetherwecan really sums it up - you make so many things happen that would other wise be impossible. Thank you - you really are all legends. #ivd2020 Here's a story of just two women who've made a difference to the women living in McAuley Houses even during the Covid restrictions...https://www.mcauleycsw.org.au/making-time-covid-hasnt-stop/

14.01.2022 Before the coronavirus pandemic, about 290,000 Australians were homeless, an increase of 14 per cent in the four years to 2018-19. With no new spending on #homelessness support, and a failure to address the dearth of social housing, things are going to be grim for people who are homeless. #worldhomelessday

12.01.2022 We acknowledge and celebrate that First Nations people occupied our ancient continent for more than 65000 years #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek2020

12.01.2022 Today many are walking against family violence....around their neighbourhoods, with friends. Wear something orange, the international symbol for the movement to eliminate violence against girls & women, and tag photos of your walk #wafv2020

07.01.2022 Today is #givingtuesday and if you are wondering how to make a difference this simple idea may be one where you know your help will transform one person’s life. Family violence has meant June is homeless & living in her car. She has a block of land but no means to build on it. This crowd funding campaign is looking to help her build a ‘tiny house’. This may not be everyone’s choice for a permanent place to live, but for June this modest dwelling will mean safety, warmth, comfort, security home. And a chance to better connect with her children.

06.01.2022 In Australia, one woman is murdered every week by her current or former partner. Tonight we'll be joining Safe Steps to light a candle to remember those who have died as a result of family violence. By joining us this evening, you can help to honour their memories and bring light to this crisis. #lightacandle2021

05.01.2022 Among women supported by us, there are many different faiths. At McAuley House Footscray around 24 women gathered to celebrate Eid, the religious celebration that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-dust fasting of Ramadan. A sumptuous feast was prepared, cooked and shared to mark this special occasion.

04.01.2022 Family violence is more of an issue than ever in our community. We are fortunate that JB Hi-Fi Helping Hands are supporting our work in helping women and children be safe and build new lives free from violence.

01.01.2022 A not so merry Christmas awaits those who experience family violence. The shocking stats show that on Christmas Day last year there were 49 per cent more reports of family violence incidents than the daily average for that year, and 27 per cent more on Boxing Day. There was also a 39 per cent increase in family violence assaults on Christmas Day and a 33 per cent increase on Boxing Day. If you want to be part of the solution to the dangerous and distressing scourge of family violence, support our work and go to the Christmas appeal tab on our website.
