24.01.2022 We have been wearing masks for weeks and weeks now, much longer than the time that it has been mandatory. We tried to learn quickly how to smile with our eyes. We soon worked out which masks were better to stop our glasses fogging and which masks were better for you to hear us with on the phone. ... As much as we support the wearing of masks to help stop the spread of this virus, we are well aware that there are many in our community, especially many of our patients who need to see lips moving to effectively communicate. In line with the guidelines from DHHS and inspired by Gippsland based hearing loss advocate Courtney from Flluskë, our staff now all have access to face shields in addition to masks. If you are hearing impaired, you can ask us to temporarily remove our masks to lip read. Our shield will be down and we will be staying our distance but you will be able to read our lips. Courtney is insanely talented and creative and she makes amazing earrings. She helps thousands of women feel more beautiful every day by wearing her hand crafted earrings while using her platform to teach communication tips for us all to be more inclusive of people with hearing loss. As a woman with a severe hearing impairment, everything Courtney does is focused on challenging and reshaping the way others think about hearing loss & deafness. She is aiming to break stigmas, shift negative attitudes and promote change in the community. 21.01.2022 The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. This video of a local family involved in a strike team is very grounding and emotional. Thank you to the Hardaker family for sharing your story. All across our community there are hay runs, food collections, the massive effort of the local CFA and their collections last weekend... it’s truely amazing and it’s far from over. ... We are a collection point for people who would prefer to make a donation in person rather than online. The Lions Club of Leongatha are then passing on 100% of these donations. Not everyone likes to process a donation online and cash and cheque’s can be delivered in store and a receipt provided. The donations have been overwhelming this week. 15.01.2022 This is not another COVID-19 post in your newsfeed that will say ‘we are open and it’s business as usual’. Nothing ANY of us do should be ‘as usual’. Yes, our practice is still operational.... We have strict procedures in place regarding how we are now operating. The sign in the picture is the sign on the door. We promise you can’t miss it! Our door is locked but if it says open on the door then we are here. Please knock or better still, return to your parked car and call us. Ph. 56624476. We are adhering to strict internal space laws and hygiene procedures. We ask all our patients to be sensible and to consider their urgency regarding the need for a routine eye test. But of course your annual or routine eye examination is not all that we do. We will be here for as long as we can for the ocular emergencies and the ongoing critical eye care that many of you require. While we can provide that service here, it takes the pressure off the general hospital/healthcare system. If you have any concerns, our staff will be happy to discuss your care options over the phone. That brings us to our last point... our staff... we can not thank them enough for their professional and dedicated approach always but especially in recent weeks. They are working tirelessly, with our processes and their role changing daily and we are very grateful for their efforts.
