17.01.2022 Congratulations to MCCC medical educator Dr Peter Keppel for being awarded the @RWAV Outstanding Contribution by a Rural GP VMO Award and Length of Service Award! These accolades recognise the longstanding contributions Dr Keppel has made to rural communities and the access to specialist services he has provided his region. Dr Keppel has worked as a GP Anaesthetist at Yarrawonga Health since 1985. From 2018, he has been a VMO Anaesthetist and GP at Kerang District Health wh...ere he is one of two GP Anaesthetists providing much needed theatre services to the hospital. 16.01.2022 This week we had the privilege of hearing from Denis Rose, Project Manager for the Budj Bim Sustainable Development Partnership. Denis has long been involved with Aboriginal land and cultural heritage management, assisting Aboriginal people throughout Australia to achieve greater control and management of their traditional lands. Denis spoke to our staff about the significance of Gunditjmara Country and how the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape contains one of the world’s most ext...ensive and oldest aquaculture systems. We would have loved to have been On Country to learn, but Denis did a fantastic virtual presentation to explain how the aquaculture systems were constructed along the lava flow, and spoke of the journey to have Budj Bim internationally recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage listed area in 2019. Thank you to Denis for sharing his knowledge with us, and to Aunty Nellie and our Aboriginal Health team for facilitating this staff education session. 06.01.2022 On this Remembrance Day, we acknowledge the profound contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made through military service for Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people served in large numbers in every conflict since Australia’s Federation in 1901 and some signed up to colonial forces before this.
