25.01.2022 In addition to being the hottest on record, the Summer of 2018/2019 was also quite dry for Melbourne. February in particular saw a continuation of the trend we’re seeing in dry days, as @janebunnofficial of @7newsmelbourne looked at last night. #climatecommunicators #climatechange #monashuniversity

24.01.2022 It’s been a cracking start to 2019 here at the MCCCRH and this has been in large part due to these two wonderful people joining our team. Remy Shergill has joined us as the Project Manager of our Changing Climates column, and James Goldie has come on board us as our Knowledge Broker, working between us and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes. We look forward to a great year ahead with these two putting their talents to work all in the name of #climatecommunication To find out more about our staff, check out https://www.monash.edu/mcccrh/people

21.01.2022 We can't believe it - a year of #ClimateCommunicators on Victorian screens! Special thanks to The Honorable Lily D'Ambrosio MP, Minister for Energy, Environment & Climate Change for joining us yesterday and for her kind words of support on our Australian-first program. No thanks would be complete without the most special of mentions to our fabulous Melbourne presenters, Jane Bunn of 7NEWS Melbourne and Paul Higgins of ABC News for pioneering #climatecommunication on Australi...an television. We look forward to continuing to work together to help Victorians better understand climate change. This program would not have been able to grown into what it has without the tremendous support of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation. And lastly, to our colleagues from CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology, AMOS, Scientell, Monash's School of Media, Film and Journalism, Monash Arts and the broader Monash University team, thank you for your unwavering support - this has been a truly collaborative effort.

20.01.2022 ICYMI: Check out our Director, Dr. David Holmes discussing the rationale of presenting science-based, factual information in weather segments with Neil Mitchell earlier in the week. #ClimateCommunicators #climatechange #MonashUniversity

19.01.2022 Thanks so much to The Age for this piece profiling the great work Jane Bunn is doing on 7 News Melbourne as part of our #ClimateCommunicators program. Along with Paul Higgins of ABC News Victoria, Jane is leading the way in making #climatechange more relevant to people's everyday lives. 19.01.2022 Some great commentary in #MonashLens from our Director, Dr David Holmes, on the lessons we can take from our response to #coronavirus. "The perverse double standard that political will can flow so easily from listening to medical experts who actually know very little about a virus, while not listening to climate scientists who know pretty much everything you need to know about climate change is a grave irony."

18.01.2022 It was great to visit Darwin last week for the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society's 2019 conference. We relished the opportunity to engage with Australia's leading climate scientists and lead workshops on the challenges and opportunities of communicating #climatechange in Australia #AMOS2019

15.01.2022 While many of us try to stay cool in today's #extremeheat, spare a thought for #AustralianOpen players who are set to compete in some of the hottest conditions we've seen in 10 years. It was great to work with Weatherzone to produce this #climatecommunication clip examining the warming conditions we're seeing at one of the world's biggest sporting events.

15.01.2022 We're thrilled to have been named the winner of the 2020 Award for Research Impact at the recent #MonashScienceAwards. Our Changing Climates project, a cross-faculty collaboration with our fabulous deputy director, Dr Ailie Gallant, was recognised for its mass-scale delivery of accessible climate communication, along with the achievements of our flagship program, Climate Communicators. Thank you so much to the Dean of Monash Uni Science for this kind recognition of our work.

15.01.2022 Our Knowledge Broker Dr James Goldie and Communications Manager Stephanie Hall speaking on the report they co-authored for the Australian Conservation Foundation on the impact of climate change on summer sports. This is not something that has happened, James Goldie, the report’s co-author, told Reuters. This is something that is happening. And it’s going to get worse. It doesn’t matter what sport you’re playing, there are multiple tracks of evidence that summer sports across the board are going to be impacted by climate change and extreme heat, Hall said.

14.01.2022 Check out our Director, Dr David Holmes, in his debut piece in the Australian Book Review. "As unfathomable as the scale of the fires was the response from the Australian government. In early December 2019, when the trending story was how unusually early the fire season was and how fires were starting all over New South Wales, Prime Minister Scott Morrison sought to disconnect the fires from climate change by calling it 'political point-scoring'."

13.01.2022 As many of you know, #COP25 kicks off in Madrid next week. We're proud to be sending our very own Remy Shergill to represent the MCCCRH and represent Australian climate communication. Read more about Remy's work leading our Changing Climates project and her plans for the international conference here. #MonashCOP25

13.01.2022 It was great to discuss the expansion of #ClimateCommunicators with our Victorian #weatherpresenter advisory board yesterday. We’re so excited to be developing this exciting program further in 2019 to make #climatechange information more relevant and accessible for all #climateaction #climatecommunication

11.01.2022 Check out today’s @theagephoto for a feature on the tremendous work @janebunnofficial is doing as part of our #ClimateCommunicators program making #climatechange information more accessible and relevant.

06.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that our flagship program, #ClimateCommunicators had its debut broadcast in Queensland earlier in the week, with 7NEWS Brisbane's Tony Auden presenting on an increase in the number of days above 30C that Queenslanders have been experiencing recently.

06.01.2022 The MCCCRH is running an exciting column in Melbourne’s Leader Community News to feature local climate stories. This is an amazing opportunity to share your own experiences to your community in just a few short minutes. The column "Changing Climates", the first of its kind in Australia, will bring the climate discussion back into the community by publishing your opinions and experiences alongside established climate science. No previous knowledge of climate science or policy is required we are simply looking for a range of voices and would love to hear from you. Also, please feel free to share in any networks.

06.01.2022 Check out our amazing Project Manager, Remy Shergill, speaking at a press conference at #COP25 on our national climate education program, Climate Communicators. Remy has been in Madrid this past week with the official Monash University delegation engaging with world's leading climate experts and negotiators as they grapple with how we can stay well under 2 degrees global average temperature rise. #MonashCOP25

05.01.2022 Has Australian cricket been #caughtbehind when it comes to #climateaction? Check out this report authored by MCCCRH researchers on the impact of extreme heat on the Boxing Day Test

04.01.2022 As we finished up our hottest summer on record, last night Paul Higgins (@abcweather) of ABC News looked at how Summer’s average maximum temperature has increased by 1.5C since 1970. #climatecommunicators #climatechange #monashuniversity

02.01.2022 In partnership with the Royal Society of Victoria and Monash's School of Media, Film and Journalism, we are delighted to present "Communicating Science in a Post Normal World." Join us on Friday the 7th of June as we explore how to navigate a rapidly evolving scientific landscape at a time where public trust in science is shifting. Hear a keynote address from Professor Mike Schäfer (The University of Zurich), who will then join panellists Professor David Karoly and Dr Linde...n Ashcroft to explore this process, highlight the challenges and identify future directions for science communication. Limited free tickets are available at the Eventbrite link below.

02.01.2022 When it comes to issues like climate change, how much power does online activism hold? In this expert analysis piece for #MonashLens, our Director Dr David Holmes has teamed up with Dr Brady Robards and BehaviourWorks Australia's Dr Stefan Kaufman to examine how social media and the online space have become a critical part of activism, used as a tool to recruit and organise people around common causes.
