25.01.2022 [CTP and Tasmania] Urgent notice are you aware that your CTP doesnt cover you in Tasmania for a single vehicle crash? A NSW rider recently contacted the MCCNSW about receiving a bill of nearly $20,000 for a helicopter ride from Ambulance Tasmania. The helicopter jaunt followed his [NSW-registered] single vehicle motorcycle crash in Tasmania. The bill has been rejected by his NSW CTP insurer as the crash was outside NSW. The Tasmanian Motor Accident Insurance Board, on the ...other hand, also rejected his claim as the crash did not involve a Tasmanian registered vehicle. Had the rider been riding a Tasmanian registered hire bike, he would have been covered. The MCCNSW wrote to the Minister for Customer Service, Victor Dominello MP asking what riders should do to cover themselves when riding interstate. He suggested taking out other forms of insurance to cover health costs associated with personal injuries, such as private health or travel insurance. Have you had a similar situation with your NSW-registered vehicle when riding outside the state? We want to hear from you. https://www.sira.nsw.gov.au/insur/CTP-insurance-Green-Slips

24.01.2022 Are you aware that your bike's speedometer is almost certainly inaccurate? This Yamaha FJR1300's speedo is out by 710%, depending on the speed. At a true 110 km/h (note the GPS speed graph at the bottom), the bike's speedo reads 118 or 119 km/h. Most vehicles sold in Australia have inaccurate speedos which read higher than the true speed. The error varies with make and model (but cars tend to be more accurate).... To determine your bike's speedo's error: - use a GPS device - ride at a constant speed on a level road no slowing, no speeding up, no climbing, no descending - note the speedo readings when the GPS states 40 km/h, 50 km/h, 60 km/h. etc.

19.01.2022 Unregistered, unlicensed, fake rego plate, and uninsured: how not to raise Motorcycle Awareness this Month. To quote: 'About 10pm on Monday the 5th October 2020, Officers from St George Highway Patrol attended the M5 Motorway Bexley North to assist the rider of a motorcycle who had fallen from his motorcycle just after the M5 Tunnel. On arrival police observed the number plate displayed on the motorcycle to be a fake number plate, which read "PIGB8". A check of the VIN number on the motorcycle found it to be unregistered and uninsured. The 24 year old Greenacre man did not hold a riders licence, and was issued with penalty notices exceeding $5500 for the combination of offences.'

05.01.2022 Motorists in general do not understand how vital space is for motorcyclists and bicyclists (those who comprise the Vulnerable Road User group). This is because our vehicles do not protect us, nor they do not stay upright on their own tailgating us only serves to distract and endanger us and others. A motorist who follows and passes riders while providing a safe space is a competent one. Share this video with those who aren't. https://www.facebook.com/nswroadsafety/posts/3932190186829187

02.01.2022 When approaching a green light, you must stop if: a] it turns yellow, AND b] it is safe to do so... The car driver had plenty of time to stop safely, so they did. The rider, however, was: - tailgating the car (0.50.6 second gap, instead of at least 2 seconds here) - not paying attention to the lights until it was too late, and - his reaction time was appallingly poor It is also possible the food delivery rider was distracted by his mobile. Given all this, is the outcome any surprise?
