23.01.2022 Our Harvesting business is looking for workers for the coming harvest season.

22.01.2022 This maiden ewe had twin ewe lambs, the littlest one struggled at the start so we took it home for a few nights, well today she went back to the farm and mum had no dramas in taking her baby back unassisted. #hampshiredown #littlelamb #maidenewe #McConnostud

22.01.2022 New Ram has arrived, thanks to Matt Hill from the Aurora Park & Burrandool Studs for the prompt service, I’m sure this guy is well suited for our up and coming joining.

19.01.2022 Lambing in full swing, the girls are doing a great job. #2020lambing #McConnoewes #BabetteMcConnonphotography

14.01.2022 MCCONNO HAMPSHIRE DOWNS McConno Hampshire Down Stud was established at Stonor in 2002 and later relocated to Longford in 2018. At the McConno Stud we are alw...ays looking at better ways to improve our stock in order to continue to produce quality sound Rams, ideally suited to lamb producers looking for a terminal sire to produce top quality and fast maturing cross bred lambs. In 2019 joining, we used a Valley View bred Ram from Cressy. Introducing this Ram we were able to breed into our stud a more solid barrelled Ram to accompany the length and height already within our Stud. McConno Hampshire Down’s breed genetics were primarily founded from a Ram purchased from the Torwood Stud at Richmond, great genetics in which we still see results within the stud today. Offered for sale on the 17th November, will be six quality Hampshire Down Rams of June 2019 drop. All Rams are OJD Vaccinated and Brucellosis tested. For enquiries please contact: Marty McConnon - 0405 600 702 or [email protected]

13.01.2022 McConno Hampshire Down Stud has been busy lambing, with only a couple of ewes left to go the 2020 season will wrap up and final numbers will be in. We also welcomed some new additions to the farm, Fergus and Mackenzie they are settling in just fine, they love sharing the pea straw with the ewes and lambs.

12.01.2022 McConno Hampshire Down Sheep Stud would like to wish all our valued clients and followers a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. We have now sold all our 2019 Drop Rams and look forward to seeing our 2020 Drop Ram Lambs growing out in the coming year. We thank our valued regular and new clients for supporting our Sheep Stud, providing and improving our genetics is something we pride ourselves on, to give our end users those great results. ... 08.01.2022 H A M P S H I R E * D O W N Woo Hoo! Big Congratulations to the Hampshire Down breeders who, with some savvy marketing and a great product, have done a rem...arkable job of attaining Recovering status with their breed. It is not often you go to a Show and don't find the Hampshire Down sheep there, such is their dedication, and that hard work is now showing. In 2007, there were 968 registered breeding ewes in 27 flocks and now there are 1505 registered ewes in 43 flocks, putting the breed just into the Recovering status. This does not mean anyone can rest on their laurels as this is only five sheep above the designated number of 1500, so the hard work must continue and I'm sure with this dedicated bunch of breeders, it will. To find out why the Hampshire is so popular, we spoke to two breeders; some old hands, and some fairly new to the breed. Dani and Darryl, Hayes Stud "What Darryl and I love about the Hampshire Down breed is they are easy to handle and even tempered. They lamb down easy and are great mothers; we rarely get a mismothered lamb. The lambs are born with great vigor and grow quickly." Lauren and Andrew, Glenelk Hampshire Down Stud "In 2018 we had the opportunity to start up our Hampshire Down Stud, we were fortunate enough to purchase ewes from Johnos stud. From then on we haven’t looked back, our number of ewes has tripled and we look forward to increasing numbers. We chose the Hampshire down breed for their fantastic mothering skills, they have a natural good doing ability and their appeal as a terminal sire. The future for us will be to continue to breed Hampshire downs to their traditional type." Congratulations to all Hampshire Down breeders on your dedication to your breed.Although Recovering, the breed will continue to be listed and monitored as it only takes one breeder to disperse a flock for numbers to change dramatically.
