All sections of the sale were stronger except hoggets which dropped by a measly $4/head average. The Maroon supporters were in full flight with the Queensland vendors just edging out the New South Welshmen for bragging rights. 20.01.2022 Sheep and Lamb Report 2/9/2020 Agents today yarded 1044 head of livestock to meet the market with a full panel operating for the good run of lambs available. Mutton was not so lucky with limited numbers available , with the upside being there was some spirited bidding on the few available lots. Lambs topped at $195 to average $161.37($6up), hoggets topped at $174 to average $144.88($2up), ewes topped at $187 to average $154.36($64up), wethers topped at $160 to average $142.89...($24down). The majority of the yarding was of a better type of lamb for the processors with a few runs of well finished lambs being presented for sale. There were still opportunities for the restockers although in smaller numbers. The few lines of mutton were keenly sought after with processors onto the wether portions and the back to the paddock or restockers chasing the female portions. 19.01.2022 Sheep and Lamb Report 18/11/2020 Agents today yarded 1393 head to the weekly sale with an influx of numbers we saw the only thing up for the day was the yarding. All categories suffered in the falls with the yarding averaging a $20 drop. The lambs were stronger for the processor types and the export lambs with lambs today topping at $216 to average $157.09($26down), hoggets topped at $192 to average $132.02($15down), ewes topped at $200 to average $127.22($15down), wethers to...pped at $160 to average $132.21($11down), lamb rams topped at $201 to average $163.91($2up). The market was hesitant to chase the feed on lambs unless they were young and fresh and the better types of breeds. The market had a larger number of the Damara x lambs in the market today. Good types of feed on Dorper and Xbred lambs were still keenly sought after. The Mutton numbers were down but the heavy end was still attractive for both buyer and seller. The lambs of better quality and finish were in stronger demand as well as light feed on stock. Lambs topped at $183 to average $151.33($17 up), hoggets topped at $137 to average $120.11($8 down), ewes topped at $160 to average $107.47($8 down), wethers topped at $140 to average $83.11 ($65 down). The m...ain lines were in lambs and hence the larger variation in the mutton types. As with all markets the numbers game will come into play particularly as we dont have access to the normal outlets as restaurant and smaller food outlets struggle with the lockdown and covid restrictions. 17.01.2022 Sheep and Lamb Report 5/8/2020 Covid is not the only topsy turvy thing happening as vendors and sellers found today as the sheep and lamb prices backed off in a hurry. The consensus is that whilst the restrictions are becoming tighter in our metropolitan areas this is impacting on both exporters and wholesalers. Heavy lambs bore the brunt of the price fall with lambs bringing over $200 in recent weeks brought back to earth. Lambs today topped at $192 to average $134.16($35 do...wn), hoggets topped at $150 to average $128.16($27 down), ewes topped at $138 to average $115.20($11 down), wethers topped at $142 to average $118.74($38 down). The price differential between store and butchers and export lambs is rapidly shrinking with some feed on buyers baulking at the cost of feed on lambs if the uncertainty remains. Mutton was not as affected with the restockers looking to buy replacement breeders and store stock. There was not enough stock for the bigger exporters to commit to for the sale. The yarding was not as consistent... as last weeks yarding quality wise and as a consequence the better type lambs were firm to dearer with the secondary lambs easing , there was still good prospects for light feed on stock with several buyers unable to fill orders. 12.01.2022 Sheep and Lamb Report 25/11/2020 Agents today yarded 1410 head to meet the local and export buyers. The yarding consisted of a few runs of Western lambs and mutton as well as the local producers. The dry weather is leading to a catch 22 situation with a few growers not wanting to go through what happened with the feed situation last year and there are some light lambs coming to the market quicker than they usually do. Lambs today topped at $233 to average $166.02 ($9up), hogg...ets topped at $173 to average $151.20 ($19up),ewes topped at $220 to average $123.99($4down), wethers topped at $182 to average $167.25($35up). The market was stronger with the sale averaging $8 up on last week. Good runs of both finished and light lambs were keenly sought after as well as mutton with the finished wethers up considerably from the offering last week. 12.01.2022 All systems GO ! We are excited to re-open the poultry, sheep and goat auctions from Wednesday the 15th of July 2020 at our Lyons Street Pig and Calf Yards. The following conditions will apply to all persons attending.... All vendors and buyers will be required to sign in providing your name, address, contact phone number and signature. (This is required by the Queensland government for ease of tracking if there was to be an outbreak of covid-19) Physical distancing must be adhered to staying 1.5 meters away from others. Genuine buyers within buying areas only. If you do not intend to bid on a particular head of stock, please step away from the selling area. Dropping off and booking in of poultry will be strictly between 6.30am and 8.30am. This will allow for buyers to view what is available before the auction commences at 9.30am. McDougall and Sons management also ask that if you are feeling unwell to please not attend. Multiple sanitising stations will be made available throughout the selling centre. NB: Please note there will be no sundry auction at this stage.

The yarding was one of the better yardings in the recent dry times. The prices were in line with Southern markets , with the heavy end attracting less attention than the lighter end.
