23.01.2022 UPDATE on new Exemption for Truck Stops: To answer question from you since we posted late last night the news that Truck Stops are now exempt from the Order tha...t closed all restaurants, below is a copy of the Media Release issued by the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and the Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport, Scott Buchholz. From, and in response to your questions overnight, that you can see that: This applies to all roadside service stations, roadhouses and truck driver lounges; The Media Release also refers to roadside eateries which we believe includes the numerous places where truck drivers eat when onroad; Take away facilities are still operating, mostly; This is in direct response to extensive and sustained lobbying by SARTA, our interstate association colleagues and the ATA and our work with Scott Buchholz and Michael McCormack; The Media Release clearly shows that the Federal Government understands the essential role trucking plays, not just in feeding the community and sustaining the economy during the COVIDIUM but also in normal times; YES it means truck drivers may sit down INSIDE theses facilities and eat .... BUT SOCIAL DISTANCING MUST BE COMPLIED WITH, or you will put this all at risk; NOTE: there should be NO PASSENGERS in any trucks crossing borders, unless they are the 2Up driver; This is also designed to ensure truck drivers have access to toilets and showers. Please SARTA know if you experience any issues with this. PRINT A COPY OF THIS or keep it on your phone, to show folk in the roadside eateries and even police etc in case they dont know about it.
