25.01.2022 The Recreation Ground is home to the Southern Vales Cycling Club. Club President Frank Schoen has announced the club will resume their events on Sunday 28th June. "You might see us between the hours of 0900 and 1100 most Sunday mornings riding around the area. We often wear coloured helmet covers and numbers on our backs. All riders welcome." 25.01.2022 READ THIS IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE COMMUNITY CLUB A decision will be made next Wednesday about the re-opening of the Community Club and it will be up to the community whether the club is likely to continue. Outgoing Chairperson Ben Tugwell said there's a lot to consider when running a licensed premises, especially with less volunteers than ever.... "There's a great deal of work to do, and before we consider opening, we need more hands on deck that are able make a personal commitment to the community. Because of the shutdown we have to organise re-stocking the bar, cleaning and finding new volunteers to run the raffles and dinner nights". "As we lift restrictions it could go either way, either people realise the value in volunteering, or we wind up the longstanding tradition of a community club. Unlike a commercial business, the club can only work when there's a good bunch of volunteers to bind it together." The club is putting out a call out for people willing to help take on the reigns of responsibility running membership, events and maintenance and administration. To find out more and sign up, volunteers will be at the clubrooms (behind the hall/ via the oval road) this Wednesday from 7:00 to 7:30 PM.(June 3rd)

13.01.2022 Some good news for McLaren Flat. Were pleased to have received advice from the council that lease fees for the grounds will be credited for the next 3 months (and possibly more). These savings will in turn be credited to our affiliated clubs that have been forced to close under recent Emergency Directions.

12.01.2022 ** PLEASE SHARE ** EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST are being sought from local bowls, bocce, croquet or any other group that would make good use of the former bowling green. The successful club would become an affiliate member of the Recreation Ground and be able to access the shared licensed facilities and benefits of shared operational costs as well. Interested groups are encouraged to move swiftly as preservation of the recently re-surfaced green is not guaranteed. The associati...on is willing to provide favourable terms of membership to assist with initial formation of a new group if required. Contact MFRG Secretary Mike Adams [email protected] See more

07.01.2022 Hall Repairs Project update from City of Onkaparinga: We have issued an order with G-Force Building to carry out the project and have had a preliminary meeting with them to tie down a time frame. As it sits at the moment G-Force are looking to start on site on Monday 17/02/2020 and are estimating a 14 week program.... Next week [we] will confirm their start and arrange a site induction meeting of which [we] will include anyone [that] may need to be involved to arrange items such as access, security and storage compound. With more than 14 months elapsed since closure of the hall, the Recreation Ground Management Committee is looking forward to the end of the prolonged planning and can only wait in hope for prompt commencement of work so that the hall will be again functional sometime in the foreseeable future.

05.01.2022 SOLDIERS MEMORIAL HALL UPDATE On 17 May the Council provided a project update and advised it is "progressing the project step by step at this stage". - A vertical brick survey was completed and thankfully no issues were reported regarding the movement at the front end of the hall.... - A set of preliminary drawings of the floor framing, roof framing and trusses have been completed . - Further advice on the possibility of retaining the original Jarrah trusses is being sought within the next week. This has added a few more weeks to the process but may avoid having to remove the iron roof, and from a heritage value point, retain the old truss structure performing its job. - Planning is reliant upon external contractors and subject to their availability. It is hoped that documentation will be finalised by the end of the financial year with works well underway in the next half of the year.
