19.01.2022 INTRODUCING GRANT Associate Solicitor, McGowran Lawyers Grant is a true local, born and raised in Rockhampton. Grant attended Glenmore State High School, before relocating to Townsville to study a Bachelor of Laws with James Cook University. Seeking to obtain hands on experience prior to completing his degree, he relocated back to Rockhampton and transferred to the Queensland University of Technology external Bachelor of Laws program. Grant began working for a local law firm,... before taking up a position with McGowran Lawyers in 2009. He gained admission as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia in 2011, and practices predominantly in Family and Criminal law. In 2015, Grant was awarded the Justice Peter Dutney Memorial Prize, presented to young lawyers who display notable work/life balance in their career. The jury returned a quick verdict of "Not Guilty" and our client is now free to move forward in their life. The onus of proof rests on the prosecuting authority to prove the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt a defendant does not need to prove their innocence. 3. Early pleas of guilty are required by law to be considered by the Judicial Officer, and in nearly all cases, will result in a reduction in the... normal penalty imposed; 4. Some Criminal Offences can only be dealt with in higher courts, requiring a committal proceeding to occur prior to the charge being finalised; 5.
