25.01.2022 Heartbreaking. Take care out there everyone.
24.01.2022 Im sad to say my mentor, friend and collegue Fran Sheean passed away at home last week. Many of you will have been influenced by Fran, particularly if you are ...rurally educated nurses or midwives. Fran was an integral part of MCH nursing education at La Trobe for many years, and taught La Trobe University nurses and midwives for around 40 years before her retirement in 2014. She also contributed to the 2009 MCH Standards of Practice, MCH Nursing Academic Committee (MACHNAC) and La Trobe Academic Board, among other things. I was lucky enough to have Frans guidance in curriculum development and teaching, and as my Masters supervisor. She was driven, and definitely not shy in coming forward. Shed tell you to pull your socks up if they needed to be , especially if she could offer a way to improve. Fran was a strong advocate for students and her community. Many students over the years commented how supportive she had been, particularly those who were facing greatest adversity. Her passion for rigour in research, primary health care, equity and education was evident in her personal as well as professional life. Fran and her husband Martin were also donors for several nursing scholarships. She hid her light under a bushel and I was lucky to have it shine on me. Vale Fran. RIP. See more

06.01.2022 Im thinking of all of you returning to MCH work, supporting communities impacted by the fires. As a reliever MCH Nurse after Black Saturday, I was prompted by a very experienced MCH nurse to ask every parent about the impact of the fires on their family. This was invaluable, giving me (and the usual nurse) insight we might otherwise have missed. Even outside the communities that were burned, almost every family had family or friends involved. Given the time of year, its e...ven more likely now. My heart goes out to you all, particularly those of you working and living in the fire areas. #communitynurse #australiafires #vicfires #YearoftheNurseAU See more

01.01.2022 We believe theres no better public investment than investing in building stronger families. Not only does the government save money, but youth and families pro...sper and communities thrive. Two recent 18-year follow-up studies published by Pediatrics a @AmerAcadPeds peer-reviewed journal shows the benefits of our program for mothers and their children as they approach adulthood. Curious? Check out the results and help us share the news. bit.ly/MemphisStudy
