08.01.2022 So often mums say, my baby wants to breastfeed all evening, I am worried about my milk supply? It’s common for young babies, especially, to ‘cluster feed’, mean...ing they feed very frequently or almost continuously over a period of a few hours. This can happen at any time of the day but it is common in the evening and can mean that as your baby feeds almost constantly, your breasts feel ‘empty’. https://www.boobiebikkies.com.au//Fussy-Baby-Cluster-Feed/?

04.01.2022 Sweet 2020 Baby, I just want to say thank you. Because in many ways, this year has been a mess.... A bit of a disaster, really. But you. You’ve been the light in the darkness. The calm in the chaos. The joy in the midst of a whole lot of hardship and pain and frustration. So I know people will talk about 2020. They’ll talk about the stress and the fear and the sadness. They’ll recount every bit of the hard stuff that’s brought tears to my eyes more times than I can count. But I’m just so glad that, when I think back on this year, I also get to think about you. Because you’re such a gift. The sweetest blessing. And even though things looked a little (okaya lot) different than I’d planned, and it certainly wasn’t always easy or comfortable, your timing couldn’t have been more perfect. So thank you, little one. Thank you for allowing me to be grateful for 2020. Because it gave me you.

01.01.2022 Imagine if you were mothered today. That someone who knew what you needed first thing in the morning opened your door and woke you up gently and lay out your cl...othes and helped you change. Folding and then tucking your pj’s under your pillow for tonight after they bathed you and sang silly songs to distract you while they washed your hair. Your breakfast would be made and eaten while you were asked what you wanted to do today. Did you want to go on the swings? Visit the zoo? Sit in the library and choose books to take home? You choose. Perhaps you will be held up to look over the fence at the large hole the diggers have been making all week and talk to the person holding you about what is inside the earth and how deep does it go and how far to the earthworm’s homes? Maybe you will fall over, and someone will pick you up and check your knees and elbows and declare them clean and make a joke about flesh wounds which you won’t get for years to come but it will become something you will one day say to your own children. Later you will lie on the sofa with your someone and watch a show you both like and you will touch your someone’s face and ask about why there are lines and dark circles and your someone will make a joke about you being up late and you won’t laugh because you know you do wake your someone up sometimes because you want to check on them to make sure they are there. You resolve to not wake them up tonight, which will be forgotten later in the dark. After dinner, which someone insists you should try because it will make you taller and that you eat begrudgingly, you will go to bed, with the promise of a story. That one story will become three stories but your someone is lying next to you and you talk about the pictures in the books and you ask about where ideas come from and you will talk about ideas until your eyelids get heavy and you feel your someone slip out of bed but you don’t mind because you will be awake later to check on them. And that is what we want this Mother’s Day. To be loved and nurtured and fed and our ideas listened to, just for a day. And for many, this will be the first time they are mothered. You are never too old to be nurtured. Be well Mothers of all creatures, human and animal. I see you. You are loved. Artist Bettina Baldassari.
