23.01.2022 Melbourne trumpeter, Gemma Horbury enjoys an eclectic career as a performer, visual artist and educator. Her music traverses contemporary jazz, classical and world styles. Gemma’s research project in the Master of Creative Industries program involved performances by an 11-piece ensemble, THE WOMEN, exploring musical storytelling via composition, orchestration, electronics, projections, poetry, rap and more. Gemma’s ensemble was an example of a sustainable creative practice m...odel that engaged women of multiple ethnicities, ages and classes. 18.01.2022 Kareen Adam is a Maldivian-Australian visual artist sharing her time between Maldives and Melbourne, Australia. Kareen’s Master of Creative Industries major project culminated in an exploration of island tourist destinations and island diaspora via multiple artforms across different platforms. The exhibition took the form of large street posters, a video, a website, as well as typical souvenir products such as post-cards, tea-towels, scarves and stickers.... She is an educator at Melbourne Polytechnic in the Jewellery and Object Design program and an independent curator. Winner of 2019 Lynne Kosky Award for Contemporary Jewellery, Victorian Craft Awards. Via the Master of Creative Industries program, Belinda has curated and toured Island Welcome, an exhibition featuring twenty-one art jewellers, which has been exhibited for Radia...nt Pavilion Melbourne Contemporary Jewellery and Object Biennial and Craft in Victoria, Australian Design Centre, Sydney and the Migration Museum Adelaide. Inspired by the welcome garlands found in many islander cultures, each artist made a neckpiece interpreting the theme of welcome’ in response to current Australian Immigration policy. Before moving to Australia, Daniel started and ran several small family businesses in the textile industry and vocational education industry in Colombia. Daniel’s major project in the Master of Creative Industries presented human centred design and design thinking methods to research the consequences of cultural appropriation as experienced by an indigenous Colombian community through the development of an interactive phone app....
