24.01.2022 We're back open on Saturdays! As of tomorrow (6th June) we'll be opening 9am - 11:30am on Saturdays. We've loved our two-day weekends together as a family, but are aware that some of you simply can't make it in during the week (or want to visit as a family) and hope that this could be a good compromise!

24.01.2022 We're looking forward to getting onto the stage again this weekend (and hopefully a little more regularly than last year!) and we'd love to play to a full house. Get your tickets now and make sure you come say hey!

22.01.2022 Have you heard about Toowoomba Regional Youth Orchestra’s Summer Camp for 2021? A great opportunity for your child to immerse themselves in music over the holidays before the start of the school year!

18.01.2022 BEGINNERS GUIDE TO REEDS :: Have you got a new musician at home who keeps asking for more reeds? And you've got no idea what those little 'paddle pop sticks' are even for? Well let us shed some light! The reed is arguably the most important part of a clarinet, saxophone, oboe or bassoon. Without one, you can't make a noise [ I mean music ] Basically, a sound is made when the player blows and the reed vibrates. Now we can get super technical when it comes to different reed ...types/styles, but the smaller the size reed (that's the number which can be found on the back) the thinner it is, which means students start on a low number while they're getting used to creating a sound and learning correct mouth position etc. The downside to them being thin is that you go through a lot of them, as they break easily! But with some practice, your budding muso will advance to the harder reeds, which will mean you won't be visiting us as often! (Except the day before a performance when they suddenly realise they have no reeds - we get that ALL THE TIME.) So when you come in to buy reeds, you need to know: 1. What instrument they're for (they aren't a one-size-fits-all thing) 2. What brand you'd like (or we can give you advice if you're unsure) 3. What size you need (they generally go in half sizes from 1.5 up to 3.5 and beyond.) Any questions about reeds? Drop them below!

18.01.2022 We're excited to be supporting the Toowoomba Woodwind Competition again this year, in its 2021 virtual format. Open to any students who play a woodwind instrument- and because the competition is digital this year, it is also accessible to players from all over! Not to mention the $500 of prizes to win! Entries close Friday 21st May and video submissions are due Friday 28th May. For information on the sections and submission details, follow the link below. ... https://drive.google.com//1xkvwQE7ldIVYx24ZOeLiTTEBU/view

16.01.2022 Just like there are fake Louis Vuitton handbags, there are knock-off musical instruments too. We currently have a fake Yamaha flute in the workshop so thought we’d give you a few tips on how to spot a knock-off from the real thing : The instrument doesn’t have a serial number. All of the big brands will have serial numbers on their instruments. And if you have an instrument without one (knock-off or not) it is a huge red-flag against purchasing it, as a brand that doesn...’t have a serial number is almost always a dodgy one! Have a close look at the brand logo on the instrument. In this case the ‘Yamaha’ logo is in the wrong position, far too big and has slight discrepancies within the font. Brands themselves have different variations of their logos depending on the instrument and model which doesn’t make things easy, but there are usually defining elements which the copy-cats don’t perfectly replicate. I know you’re thinking ‘but what if I’m not a graphic designer with an uncanny ability to recognize fonts and logos like Renae?’ - don’t stress! Often a quick Google search will uncover what the logo *should* look like. There are other faults of knock-off instruments that the trained eye can pick up on, but suffice to say, fake brand-name instruments are and are not worth your hard earned cash, bargain or not! If you’re ever unsure about the second hand instrument you’re buying and want an opinion or advice, reach out, we’re always happy to help!

10.01.2022 Did you know that we offer FREE mouthpiece removal if you find yourself with a stuck mouthpiece? We do this because you can do some major damage trying to get it out yourself! So Dads- step away from the pliers and vices and pop past the store and we’ll do it in most cases while you wait! (This is a picture of what can happen if you take matters into your own hands/pliers! )

08.01.2022 Easter Opening Hours We will be having a short break leading into the Easter weekend and closing from this Wednesday 31st March and reopening Tuesday 6th April. Wishing everyone a happy and safe Easter.

08.01.2022 Hi everyone, we will be closing early today at 4pm- this mum and dad have a date at a gig in Brisbane! We super excited that our rare night out includes seeing the amazing Hot Potato Band - if you haven't heard their music look them up, you won't be disappointed!

07.01.2022 It was so fun to connect with Anna from Shiny Happy Art this week and give her a cornet as a subject for one of her #5minutemay sketches- check out the finished product- it’s just stunning!! Thanks so much Anna, be sure to head over and give her a follow and check out some of her amazing work, a fabulous local business!

05.01.2022 Hello music lovers, we will be closing early at 3:00pm on Friday 9th October and CLOSED Saturday 10th October to finally celebrate a certain shop owner's 30th birthday with a (kid-free) weekend away.

03.01.2022 We all love our children dearly, but we don’t necessarily love the dulcet tones of beginner instruments as a soundtrack to our Zoom Conference calls. If you need a way to lower the volume whilst still encouraging the kids to practice {and keep on good terms with your neighbours} we have a range of practice mutes including our fav Sshhmutes in store for trumpet and trombone. We can deliver free to any Toowoomba address, post for $10 or you can pop in and see us in store.
