17.01.2022 Unfortunately many of our playing engagements have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus. However, we had the opportunity today, St Patricks Day, to play for the patrons of Full Moon Hotel Sandgate. We made use of this occasion to dress in our green family Gordon tartan and green balmoral to fit in with the theme of the day.

15.01.2022 We were fortunate today as the weather was in our favour and afforded Jeannie and Paul the opportunity to commemorate our fallen an observe the end of WW2 (VP75) at the Sandgate and Nundah cenotaphs. We played Battle's O'er as well as Jeannie playing on the saxophone The Last Post, and Reveille (Rouse) after the minute's silence.

15.01.2022 With all Anzac Day parades cancelled across the country due to the coronavirus, we were between a rock and a hard place of what piping activities we could participate in. Being cognitive of the two-people and 1.5m restrictions, Jeannie and I have volunteered and been accepted to play at two nursing homes in Brisbane North, entertaining the elderly is something we always love to do. Of course, we will play in a selected area distanced from the residents in order to keep them safe. Jeannie and I are very much looking forward to practising and playing with our fellow band members again when the social distancing restrictions are lifted.

14.01.2022 Rowan Tree/Wings is now one of our favourite 4/4 sets

10.01.2022 Paul and Jeannie playing Barren Rocks of Aden at the Full Moon Hotel Sandgate on St Patrick's Day 2020

10.01.2022 We had a great time playing a variety of tunes this afternoon for the elderly at a nursing home. One of the songs we played was The Skye Boat Song which is a traditional Sottish song. The original lyrics was written by Sir Harold Boulton in the 1880s. It is adopted by Bear McCreary as the theme song of the 2014 TV series Outlander. Original Speed bonnie boat like a bird on the wing Onward the sailors cry ... Carry the lad thats born to be King Over the sea to Skye Loud the winds cry Loud the waves roar Thunderclaps rend the air Baffled our foes, stand by the shore Follow they do not dare Outlander Sing me a song of a lass that is gone Say could that lass be I Merry of soul she sailed on a day Over the sea to Skye Billow and breeze Islands and seas Mountains of rain and sun All that was good, all that was fair All that was me is gone

10.01.2022 Today, May 8th, being VE Day 75 (75th anniversary of Victory in Europe), we played our part as have thousands of pipers around the world at 3pm local time. In commemoration of this historical and important event, we played at the Cenotaph at Sandgate in Brisbane, Queensland. The two tunes we played were Battle's O'er and VE 75 Years, the second being a tune written by Pipe Major Roger Baynes especially for this event. This afternoon, we were graced by the presence of the Sandgate Town Crier.

09.01.2022 A few weeks ago, LaiLai, an artist and also a friend of McLai Pipes & Drums, donated some of her paintings to a north side nursing home for the enjoyment of the residents there.

09.01.2022 We Are Australian

09.01.2022 In 2018, we, Jeannie and Paul, composed a lament to honour all the fallen firefighters who had courageously made the ultimate sacrifice in order that others may survive. This tribute is poignant at this time as we stop to remember the 343 firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001 in the New York city terror attack, notwithstanding the many firefighters that perished after that day due to injuries received. This video is a testament to the valour of all firefight...ers. Music composed by Jeannie and lyrics by Paul Firefighters, they’re our heroes bold They gave their lives, their treasured story told We all give our pledge to hold them high ‘Twas not in vain, but sadly they did die With selfless fear, they sacrificed for all With their strength and courage standing tall They had fought to protect our loving kin Both the young and the old their might within They’ll always be our brothers ‘n’ sisters brave Even though they now lie in shallow grave Laid to rest with tender, loving grace Their Maker reserved for them a special place Firefighters, they’re our heroes bold They light the heavens with hearts of gold https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=2jwDXPu9iDk

09.01.2022 1. Waltzing Matilda

08.01.2022 I AM AUSTRALIAN In this difficult time of every country in the world trying to combat the coronavirus, we would like to share this video to momentarily take your mind off the facts that have been dominating our lives in the last few months. Of course we still have to remember and practise the necessary precautions. In particular, I'd like to let our fellow Australians know that we are proud to be Australians, and like PM Morrison said, " We'll get through this together Austra...lia" I came from the dream-time From the dusty red-soil plains I am the ancient heart The keeper of the flame I stood upon the rocky shores I watched the tall ships come For forty thousand years I've been The first Australian I'm the daughter of a digger Who sought the mother lode The girl became a woman On the long and dusty road I'm a child of the Depression I saw the good times come I'm a bushie, I'm a battler I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream, and sing with one voice I am, you are, we are Australian I am, you are, we are Australian

07.01.2022 Our first chanter practice night after the relax of the coronavirus restriction. Note the distance between Grace and us, social distancing is important until a reliable vaccine is found.

07.01.2022 There are many restrictions with the coronavirus, but that doesn't deter me from playing the bagpipe, which in fact is an excellent form of exercise

07.01.2022 A few snippets of our 2020 Anzac Day activities which commenced at 0600 hours at our cul-de-sac dawn service. There was a good attendance by our friends and neighbours. We then played at Opal Nursing Home Caseldine, and Opal Nursing Home North Lakes. Due to social distancing and nursing home lock down protocol, it was necessary for us to play outside with residence viewing from balconies. It is always a joy to play for our senior citizens, especially during these challenging times. We then moved on and played for an enthusiastic crowd at the Redcliffe cenotaph and completed our Anzac Day activities by playing for a patriotic crowd at Shorncliffe Pier foreshore.

07.01.2022 One of Jeannie's favourites, Loch Lomond

06.01.2022 102 years ago, at 11 am on November 11, 1918, the Germans surrendered unconditionally and Remembrance Day is traditionally observed each year on the 11th day of the 11th month, a day dedicated to the men and women who made that ultimate sacrifice. Today, we attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at a local nursing home. It is always a joy to give something back to our senior citizens.

04.01.2022 Last Sunday, we had the honour, privilege and enjoyment of playing for our first centenarian who was celebrating her 104th birthday with her extended family and friends.
