27.01.2022 Our Yallambee residents having been enjoying some painting last week and have produced some wonderful artwork. Apparently some of our residents are now to be referred to as ‘Picasso!
25.01.2022 International Nurses Day!!!! Our Yallambee residents and staff celebrated International Nurses Day today. We have the privilege of having three former nurses residing with us at Yallambee and it was lovely celebrating Nurses past and present. Rowena, who was a nurse in her younger days read a beautiful poem, Claire was attired in McLean Care colours and Kate who was a nurse during the war helped our Clinical Nurse, Swetha cut the cake. ... Our residents also wrote a few words onto pictures of nurses caps which are now displayed in the staffroom. Thank you to our chef, Troy and the Hotel Service team on the amazing food, it was delicious!
23.01.2022 Woohoo spring has sprung at Killean From baby birds, blooming blossoms to beautiful bulbs flowering and our first little chicken hatching!...it's all happening here. We have been checking the coop first thing every day for the arrival of the next little chirpy chick. Everyone was so excited on discovering the little chic on Wednesday morning. ... Our residents also love watching the parents of a little nest of wren chicks in our Hub Garden area. They flitter about collecting bugs to feed the babies everyday. Everyone is busy tending the gardens. The azaleas are amazing, blossom trees are blooming and the irises are divine. It's very easy spending time outdoors with the perfect weather, scenery and colours and everyone admiring the beautiful blue skies and green, green grass. Todd and the Hector residents have also made a beautiful butterfly tree which is so pretty - adding a touch of spring colour indoors. There is no doubt, our favourite season of the year is spring.
23.01.2022 Let's create something together! Our CWA House received a lovely donation of wool recently and four of our crafty ladies discussed between them as to what they would be able to knit or crochet. They took great delight in picking and choosing the different colours. Lillian couldn’t wait to go through her baby knitting books to see what she can make. Stay tuned to see their future projects. ... (Pictured are Vera, Lillian, Kathy and Laura)
23.01.2022 International Day of Older Persons Older people are awesome and there has never been a more important time to acknowledge and celebrate the International Day for Older Persons. In the midst of the pandemic, it is critical that as a community we come together and acknowledge the contribution and importance of older people. They are the undervalued core of our society and economy, ACSA CEO Patricia Sparrow said.... The fact is, older people make an awesome contribution in hundreds of ways that people don’t acknowledge or celebrate enough. If we start to value older people more, the so-called threat of our ageing population becomes an opportunity. As aged care providers, we understand this better than most and we’re calling on everyone to take responsibility and to make Australia a better place for older people.

12.01.2022 The community spirit runs deep in Inverell The lovely talented ladies from the Inverell women's shed have kindly donated - fiddle blankets, lap mats, trolley bags and lots more goodies in the boxes for our residents to enjoy and keep them busy.... The ladies at the women’s shed stated this wouldn’t be possible without the kind generosity of the @sapphirewindfarm who have helped them to obtain new sewing machines. We are very lucky to be part of an amazing community.

09.01.2022 As the year comes to an end, our Kolora residents enjoyed their last Arm Chair Travel day for the year. This time we put on our Glitter and Glam and travelled to Hollywood. One of our residents, George, had some model cars on display and gave us a talk on American cars and Harley Davidsons. Britt brought in her photos from when she went to Hollywood and put on a great slide show.... Our kitchen was turned into an old fashioned American Diner with a fabulous lunch menu of New Yorker classic hot dogs served with french onion and tomato topped with grilled cheese, Texas mini slider hamburgers served with salad American french fries Pops Bubbly Ice Cream Sodas and Hollywood styled classic banana split. What a fun filled day it was.

08.01.2022 Don't judge a book by it's cover The activities team at Apex Road have introduced 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. This is where we go around with a trolley of books that have been wrapped up so you can't see the covers. The genre of the book is written on the wrapping so each resident gets to pick what genre they would like to read.... The surprise involved in unwrapping the books, and also reading books is very interesting because prior to this intriguing exercise they may never have considered reading that particular book before!

07.01.2022 Are you OK? We would all agree 2020 has been a year like no other, and we know first-hand how hard this year has been for those living and working in residential care. Staying connected, especially during times of uncertainty and restrictions, is an important first step to ensure that we all feel supported, and stay mentally well during these challenging times. Yesterday our Inverell team were invited to take part in dressing in yellow in support or R U OK promoting awarenes...s. Some of our residents also choose to take part in the day, having a positive affect on all those involved. Everyone was encouraged to speak out a problem shared is a problem halved promoting healthy encouraging emotional support and guidance to ensure everyone’s well being is considered in these difficult times. Today we also reflect on Patriots Day and all those who lost their life on September 11. It's so important we work together and stay connected. Have a great weekend everyone!
