22.01.2022 Thank you Christopher Crichton & Duke I found Rikke and Alistair to be highly professional in all respects. Their care and attention for my horse was second to none. The foundation training they provided was just amazing. I was kept informed the whole way through the process, and their support and advice was invaluable. The way my 3yo was started was simply 5 star. He was calm, accepting of all aspects that a riding horse needs to be and was slowly led through the process ...so that it was a positive experience for my horse. 20.01.2022 http:// Terminology Tuesday - The Central Pattern Generators // When a foal is born, the gaits are already embedded. The limb sequences and their diagonal connection...s are already present in all gaits. This is because of the Central Pattern Generators. Put simply, the Central Pattern Generators (CPGs) are dense clusters of nerves in the spinal cord that coordinate the limb movements. There is one in the cervical thoracic region (withers) and another in the lumbar/sacral region (loins). The concept of the Central Pattern Generator can be a complex topic to understand, but the key pieces of information that are interesting are: The CPGs enable the patterns of the gaits without any input from the brain. The front CPG is the decision-maker - it informs the hind end, which provides feedback. Take a look at this animation of the Central Pattern Generators in action. Notice how the front is informing the back, and they are both directing the limbs. There is some feedback from back to front but the main message regarding the gait itself is coming from the front CPG. One of the reasons the great masters of equitation emphasised that the walk is the ‘mother of all gaits’ is because the walk is the slowest gait, and each limb is separated, so it’s easier for the trainer to target the precise moment a leg can be most influenced, which is the beginning of the lift (swing) phase.

14.01.2022 Announcement! I could not be more excited to announce that McLean Sport Horses is joining team BIMET! I have such admiration for their training methods-the re...sults they get are absolutely amazing! Their reputation most definitely precedes them. I have been lucky to work with them recently with their own horses but also some breakers and horses in for retraining. They understand that poor training and confusion can cause ‘behavioural’ issues, but so can pain and weakness. By ruling out pain and relieving any tensions/restrictions, the breaking process becomes much more seamless and they can focus solely on training and give the horse the best foundation. With a background in animal science-evidence based and welfare focused training is something I am very passionate about so I am super excited to be working with Rikke Sofie Busch Andreasen and Alistair McLean going forward.
